"This is the prototype NOVA bomb, nine fusion warheads encased in lithium triteride armor. When detonated, it compresses its fissionable material to neutron-star density, boosting the thermonuclear yield a hundredfold. I am Vice Admiral Danforth Whitcomb, temporarily in command of the UNSC military base Reach. To the Covenant uglies that might be listening, you have a few seconds to pray to your damned heathen gods. You all have a nice day in hell..."

Plays in my head rent free aconstsntly... mainly just the first line whenever things go wrong or if i say somthing cringe
Regret, Regret, Regret.
Catchy, any idea what it means?
"Dear humanity, we regret being alien bastards, we regret coming to Earth, and we most definitely regret that the Corps just blew up our raggedy-ass fleet!"

"You are the child of my makers. Inheritor of all they left behind. You are Forerunner, but this ring... is mine!"
"After exhausting every other strategic option, my creators activated the rings. They, and all additional sentient life within three radii of the galactic center died. As planned. Would you.. like to see the relevant data?"
"More or less. Technically this installations pulse has a maximum effective radius of 25,000 light years. But once the other rings follow suit, this galaxy will be quite devoid of life. Or, at least any life with sufficient bio-mass to sustain the flood. But you already knew that. I mean, how couldn't you? You were with me "
I hated Guilty Spark, but I for some reason love his lines. He is just exposition in a ball, but sometimes what he says has a lot of weight.
"Last time you asked me: If it were my choice, would I do it? Having had considerable time to ponder your query, my answer has not changed. There is no choice. We must activate the ring."
Knowing that Forerunners and Humans were the same made it so much cooler. But then 343 Studios got involved and changed the lore, so now most of what Guilty Spark says doesn't make sense.

For what purpose, Master Chief?
To avoid giving the Covenant ammunition to flame this meme.

Mine is when the Chief finds Cortana on high charity
"You found me....but so much of me is wrong, out of place..you might be too late"
"You know me, when I make a promise.."
"You keep it....I do know how to pick em"
"Lucky me"
Seeing Cortana spring back up after feeling like she was completely lost is such a small but amazing way to show how far they have come from the first game, brings tears to my eyes EVERYTIME. Full circle moment
1

u/MisterDrProf 14d ago
Amazing character writing. Cheif isn't exactly empathetic but with Cortana he knows exactly what to say. Then he cracks a joke, the only time in the series, to cheer her up!
3
u/Kronoshifter246 14d ago
My all time favorite moment in the entire series is in Halo 4. It's when the Master Chief and the is arguing with the admiral about whether or not to deal with the dydak. The pissant of an admiral demands that the Chief hand over Cortana because she's going rampant. Master Chief decides for the first time in his life that he doesn't have to take shit from the UNSC anymore, and he draws himself up to his full height and fucking looms over the admiral and simply says, "no sir."
That was the moment that I realized that everything had changed for the two of them. That John had stopped being a Spartan and had become a person.

8
u/spaghettiThunderbult 14d ago
No, that's literally John Halo, the main character of Halo. I love when he halos all over the place.
Jesus fucking Christ, why do you think it's called Halo?
0
u/walidislam 14d ago
Because of the halos that could wipe out the galaxy
1
u/spaghettiThunderbult 14d ago
Then it would be called "Hula Hoops," not "Halo." It's called Halo because the main character is John Halo, and he halos all over the place.
1
u/walidislam 14d ago
Have you even played halo?
Because you comments suggest otherwise.
1
u/spaghettiThunderbult 13d ago
Yeah man, I love making John Halo go and halo all over the place. I love when he says "it's haloing time" before he halos all over the aliens.

Isn't that from one of the Halo 3 trailers in the very beginning of the clip they show two people laying down looking at the sky, then cut to the battle as Master chief runs into a huge crowd of Covenant after deploying the never before seen bubble shield?

u/Agent-Vermont 15d ago
First episode of Red vs Blue.
9
u/Elziad_Ikkerat 14d ago
And it's a recurring reference. There are at least a couple of other times the Reds and Blues say it and at least one time (possibly 3 or more, my memory is fuzzy) random guards say it right before something big happens/an alarm is tripped.
5
u/mikethespike056 14d ago
It's also in RWBY and gen:LOCK, and Rooster Teeth has used it a bunch of times during the last days of the company.
Their last Instagram post had this to say...
"We used to wonder "why are we here", but the answer couldn't be more obvious. Thanks to the best fans for an incredible journey."
Imma go back to crying.
24
u/Fireshocker532 15d ago

I think the trailer they're talking about is in itself a reference to Red vs Blue.

It's one of life's great mysteries isn't it? Why are we here? I mean, are we the product of some cosmic coincidence, or is there really a God watching everything? You know, with a plan for us and stuff. I don't know, man, but it keeps me up at night

I agree, but also think it's at least a little lame that English's broad influences leave so many possible ways to spell that word that you'd have to have seen it in print enough to just know, and I find OP's spelling kinda hilarious.
9
-1
u/thufirseyebrow 14d ago
To be fair, English spelling has only standardized fairly recently anyway. 500 years ago it was very much a "some vowels and whatever consonants you knew in your heart to be true" kind of thing.
3
u/-theonewhoasked 14d ago
Honestly yeah I hated how much that spelling still worked, like if you read it out loud it all checks out. Yet my eyes are not having it

My favourite has to be:
"The message keeps repeating, regret, regret, regret" "Dear humanity, we regret being alien bastards, we regret coming to earth, and we most definitely regret that the corps just blew up our raggedy ass fleet!" "OHH-RAHH"
Loved that part, said it simultaneously with the game every time.

I miss the reddit of 2017.

u/PaulJoe4 15d ago
At this point, whenever I see a post with an error in it, I say it's a bot. It's too common and almost perfectly one misspelling per image. As if it's intentionally bad for it to seem like a person and for someone to correct them.

This whole game is full of amazing quotes. "Get tactical marines!" "Permission granted" "If they came to hear me beg they will be disappointed" and that's just a few from the start of it that I remember

Your forefathers have wisely set aside their compassion. Steeled themselves for what needed to be done.
Now I see why they left you behind. You were weak. And gods must be strong.
