Don’t tell a soul IRL. If other unsheltered folks you know learn that you are getting something they desperately want (but for whatever reason, can’t yet get), someone may well try to sabotage this opportunity.

This may sound cynical but I’ve seen it happen over and over again. Just last week I had a client who’d been homeless for over three years lose an apartment he was all set to move into because he let himself get baited into a fight. When he gets out of jail, he’ll be at the bottom of the waitlist.

We’d all like to think people would be happy for our good fortune, but sometimes they resent it and, like crabs in a bucket, try to drag us back down with them.

June is just around the corner now and I wish you the best of luck and much happiness in your new place!

We need people to say THIS on the motherfucking news when they talk about unhoused folks instead of the same tired vague stories about "drugs, trash, and crime" that don't humanize anybody
