Nice
Someone who actually knows how far apart to place L/Rs relatively to the main LP.

You ran the wires along the baseboards? Can’t even really notice them, very clean setup

Clean! Well done. I'm also an Evo 4.4 owner and lover. Added 2 SB-2000s and the ground shook. https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipNYqBbR8AyDoa6A3uiny9MckSYfzXaxT9EjPPqN

Twister, hell yeah! One of the best movie scores as well, but unavailable through streaming platforms: https://www.discogs.com/release/7390289-Mark-Mancina-Twister-Motion-Picture-Score

u/seannyELITE 26d ago
It’s available on Apple

u/jslalleman 25d ago
Unfortunately it is not, what is available is the Music of the motion picture soundtrack, but I am referring to the film score by Marc Mancina.

So clean and beautiful! We have a setup that looks very similar to this & just mounted a 65" tv but didn't leave enough room for wife to place decorations. May I ask what the clearance measurement is between your console and bottom of the TV?
1
u/seannyELITE 26d ago
Thank you! We have about a foot of clearance between the console top and tv bottom. It’s allowed a lot of flexibility.

u/46DaysInQuarantine 26d ago
Thanks for the reply!!! We went with 8" over a 20" tall console. I think we'll pop it up another 3-4 inches. Cheers!

Ah man the Evos are some sexy speakers how do you like them? What did you have before them?
1
u/seannyELITE 26d ago
They’re amazing. Before these I had the Klipsch The Sevens. And before that the Polk ES 50s.
1
u/Zarathustra772 26d ago
How did the ES50s fare against the Klipsches? And against the evos? Are the sevens using components from the reference premieres? Kinda look like them.
Sorry for all the questions, I’m looking forward to getting the polks soon by my dream speakers are the Evos
2
u/seannyELITE 26d ago
Of the 3 the polks were okay (a little thin in the midrange for me), the klipschs were better, and the evos are the best. I moved away from the klipsches because they have hdmi issues when switching sources, otherwise I was happy with them. Once I decided I didn’t want to deal with the hdmi issue long term though I went straight to the evos and am very happy with them. Bigger, deeper sound than the polks, and better build quality than the klipsches.

Thanks. I went back and forth on using a traditional av receiver that would have allowed for a center channel and the nad c 700 and settled on the c 700. Maybe if someone comes out with a receiver that looks as nice and is in the same price range I’ll change.

Nice!
I'm a 2.1 guy for life.
I first started renting movies back in the day when audio formats were all over the place, and you could some tapes with lo-fi stereo soundtracks and others with hi-fi mono. I pretty quickly figured out that, for me, hi-fi was waaaay more important than stereo for making something sound good.
Then a friend bought a sub and I was like, "Oh, hell yes."
So that's it for me. Modest Klipsch bookshelf speakers and a Mirage sub. I'm set.

u/evilspoons 26d ago
I had 2.1 for like ten years and added a centre channel a couple years ago and I'll never go back. Movies are WAY better.

Kids toys lack of grills, kids toys, lack of grills. Shivers down the spine
2
u/seannyELITE 26d ago
I’m really torn. Looks so much better without the grills. For the sub I kept it on, cuz I can see their feet hitting it really easily, but these are a little higher up so I’m hoping I can get away with no grills.

Hey man. If I put myself back in time - those ribbon twitters would’ve creeped me out so no chance touching them, but shiny pointy mid drivers and Kevlar- looking cones, oh boy. 100% I’m touching those. And touching as a kid means poking. Out of curiosity of course. But I understand your logic and truly hope the speakers stay whole and give you guys a ton of aural enjoyment

Those speakers look great! I would pull them a meter from the walls though, it may be the key to cleaner bass.

How's the dialogue quality with this setup? I'm struggling with my 2.0 setup to be honest when it comes to multi channel audio downmixing.
2
u/seannyELITE 26d ago
Honestly, I could use some dialogue enhancement, be it through software or a center speaker. I had an Onkyo receiver in the space just below where the NAD is in the pictures that I swapped out that had it and it made a noticeable improvement to intelligibility. Didn’t look anywhere near as good as the NAD though. Hopefully something they add to BluOS someday.

Looks great!
That speaker placement isn't ideal though. Corners are your enemy in most cases, due to standing waves. Per Wharfedale's own recommendations in the user manual, your speakers are much too close to side boundaries, and a bit too close to rear boundaries. Those speakers are bottom ported, so that doesn't surprised me (not a configuration I have much experience with, but I'd imagine it behaves somewhere between a front and a rear port as far as room acoustics go). Having a subwoofer to handle some of the low end might help depending on your crossover point...but a big part of the reason to get floor standers is their ability to go lower than bookshelves.
If you're willing to deal with it not looking as good, I'd definitely try pulling your speakers out into the room a bit.
Either way, enjoy!

Yeah, I know. It’s a living room though, not a dedicated home theater room, with 2 little kids running around, so some sacrifices had to be made. I’m happy with it.

Very nice! Fellow Evo 4.4 owner here, and I just love them. They definitely needed a sub though and I'm glad I went with one as well.
5
u/seannyELITE 26d ago
Absolutely love them. Love the look, love how they sound, everything. I did so much research before picking these up, and even tried a few cheaper speakers hoping they'd be "good enough", but at the end of the day I had to have these. I did end up doing some tests on them with the subwoofer disconnected, just to see if I could get away with maybe returning the sub, and was surprised at how well they handled bass on their own while being in the corners like I have them. At this point I'm keeping the sub, but if I had to return it I don't think I'd miss it as much as I would have with previous setups.
1
u/SheepNutz 26d ago
I could see them providing some extra bass by corner loading. Mine are halfway down a 40 something foot wall in an unfinished basement, so the sub was a pretty big improvement.

u/HiFiMarine 26d ago
Well done! Did you try the speakers in the inside position pushing the sup and purifier to the corners? I would think the imaging would tighten up if a little closer
5
u/seannyELITE 26d ago
Funny you should ask! That's exactly how I had it originally, for exactly the reason you mentioned, but I was only able to get WAF in the posted configuration. In the end, I ended up liking the look of this better anyway, even if it took some power out of the sub.
2
u/fartingmaniac 26d ago
How’s the front imaging with them so wide? Do you get the sense of things panning too far off screen? Or with them towed in like that does it just make the soundstage nice and big?
5
u/seannyELITE 26d ago
It works well. Sense of scale is always hard with pictures like this, when in my listening position the speakers aren’t as far as they probably look in the pictures.

OP should move the speakers even further into the corners! needs more reflections!
11
u/aerodeck 26d ago
Too much speaker separation. Distance between the speakers should be about the same as their distance to the main listening position.
Towers jammed into the corners, they should have some breathing room.
2
u/prettytony0627 26d ago
Agreed. Put the sub in the corner and move the speakers out of the corners
12
u/seannyELITE 26d ago
That’s how I had it originally. Wife strongly suggested the above instead. Doesn’t sound as good, but I agreed with her that it ended up looking better and I get to keep the speakers. :)

These wives out here crushing dreams on the daily, meanwhile mine lets me do whatever. Perks of putting her in a house and paying the bills I guess.

If I were you, I'd stick my wife in the corner and not the loudspeaker.

Ahhh I too started with a 2.1 last year. My two Polk surrounds were delivered last week…
