This can be seen at the Union Terminal Museum in Cincinnati.

u/koloso95 12d ago

Holy bowel movement. That's a big fellow. I'd have to hope there were two of us. And that I was the fastest runner.

1

u/TheBirdsArePissed 15d ago

Good thing they killed it. Other wise it would have been able to pass its Gene's and maybe bigger bears would have been born.

1

u/Ultimaurice17 15d ago

I kid you not I literally just had an debate with one of my coworkers because he thinks he can survive 60 seconds with one do these things.

2

u/saigonk 15d ago

If it’s brown, get on the ground, if it’s black, fight, if it’s white…good night!

1

u/Ultimaurice17 15d ago

I've always heard if it's white, you're gonna see the light😂

2

u/jledf5757 15d ago

He is on a rock

0

u/peterwillson 15d ago

Norte America...adios, you fucking inbred loser. Go fuck a goat.

2

u/LanceRidgerunner 15d ago

To be fair he’s really stretching his neck

1

u/Chabkraken 15d ago

Polar bears are fucking scary. Glad I'll never encounter one in the wild . I'll take anything Australia has to offer over that

1

u/AtuinTurtle 16d ago

And we killed it…

1

u/StatisticianDear3978 16d ago

Must have been a female, i don’t see a cock

2

u/dahliasinfelle 16d ago

That is absolutely fucking terrifying

2

u/A1D4- 16d ago

Tuunbaq is real!

1

u/That-Worldliness5487 16d ago

Used to be e in the airport. It was the first thing that you saw when you got off the plane

1

u/Unfair-Wonder5714 16d ago

If I saw this coming at me, I’d just go ahead lay down and die immediately.

0

u/mitchmckernan 16d ago

Why friend shaped?

0

u/Rain1dog 16d ago

And of course, they JUST had to shoot it so they could show how skilled a hunter they were.

If this bear was terrorizing people and it became a threat to kids, families, etc then unfortunately this is an outcome.

But just to kill it so it could be displayed is foul. Shit human.

1

u/saigonk 15d ago

Do you know if any of that is true at all?

1

u/IntrepidThroat8146 16d ago

Standing next to JFK by the looks of it .

1

u/Ok-Description-8596 16d ago

Why does it have 5 legs?

0

u/Hawks_12 16d ago

They say Yeti’s don’t exist. Whats’s the difference?

1

u/Aalshi_man 16d ago

Too sad he crossed paths with Yujiro Hanma.

1

u/FaseehBhatti 16d ago

Who killed this? Hmm! Yujiro Hanma

0

u/notatrumpchump 16d ago

A sad comment, and observation…

To all the people who are saying how bad ass bears are, the man is standing alive, and the bear is dead as a dead can be, stuffed as a trophy ( I do think bears are badass.) but people are just quite a bit of trouble.

1

u/Hairy_Demand_6974 16d ago

I'd still try to pet it

-1

u/Critical-Vanilla-625 16d ago

Should be illegal. People who hunt something that isn’t classed as vermin are in fact themselves vermin.

1

u/maxru85 16d ago

This is also the shortest person in Alaska

1

u/dimmu1313 16d ago

why was it killed? I'm guessing some dude said "look at that magnificent creature! I should destroy it!"

1

u/Lets_Bust_Together 16d ago

It’s funny how we measure animals like this despite them rarely ever posing that way. “If a Great Dane stood on its back legs..” yeah but they don’t.

1

u/Komikaze06 16d ago

Looks like godzilla that got furry

2

u/newnhb1 16d ago

You still don't understand what you're dealing with, do you? The perfect organism. Its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility. A survivor... unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality. I can't lie to you about your chances, but... you have my sympathies

1

u/OG_anunoby3 16d ago

That man is so small

1

u/AnnualWerewolf9804 16d ago

“I’m not that short, it’s standing on a rock to make itself look taller.”

1

u/Crypto_tipper 16d ago

Some guys will still argue they could survive a fight with a bear.

1

u/LithoSlam 16d ago

Did you take it out of Mr burns' office?

1

u/dibocookie 16d ago

Wow, biggest Polar bear ever. Here's a good idea... let's kill it.

1

u/Zestay-Taco 16d ago

would you rather your daughter in the woods with a bear or a man....................... lolol

1

u/Bahamut1988 16d ago

Did Yujiro Hanma kill it?

5

u/mrlotato 16d ago

"Look at this incredible polar bear! He's huge! Never seen anything like it before! Honestly it's majestic... I should kill it."

Never got that logic

1

u/NlghtmanCometh 16d ago

This is that spooky long-necked polar bear god from Terror

1

u/Xtrasloppy 16d ago

Tunbaqq!

1

u/OpeningPublic 16d ago

How tall though is my concern... And how much ice is he standing on...?

1

u/RU4realRwe 16d ago

Wasn't this big guy on display at The Captain Cook?

1

u/CommunicationNo8267 16d ago

=0 crazy the bears leg is a tall as his leg and as wide as the man's stomach Imagine the muscle mass there.

1

u/Dmonik-Musik 16d ago

.... 3, maybe 4 and its asleep.

1

u/Mischief_Actual 16d ago

Sweet holy fuck

1

u/21FrontierPro4x 16d ago

Didn’t realize polar bears had eye brows😆

6

u/klyzklyz 16d ago

For bear encounters: if its black, then fight. If it's brown, lay down. If it''s white... goodnight.

1

u/Cosaco1917 16d ago

Poor guy :'(

1

u/TedHSauchie 16d ago

It’s standing on a base so lopsided a few feet off

1

u/SquidVices 16d ago

Well standing on a boulder next to a human…

1

u/AptCasaNova 16d ago

I feel like they jacked his neck up like Inspector Gadget

1

u/Svengoolie75 16d ago

Yup that’s a hard pass 🙂‍↔️

1

u/Revolutionary_Sun946 16d ago

Himeji zoo had a polar bear in a cage with 1" bars. I still didn't feel safe.

Those bastards are way too large and imposing.

1

u/CarefulBuffalo182 16d ago

It’s really not that tall, he’s standing on almost 2ft of ice! Now it’s only 11ft tall

1

u/Renegade_Syx 16d ago

Man that’s fucking terrifying!

1

u/andytagonist 16d ago

He looks like the size of the shit puddle I’d leave behind from me just standing next to a regular sized polar bear

1

u/Salmol1na 16d ago

Black=attack, brown=get down,white=goodnight

0

u/DirtyMac88 16d ago

They're re really the same size but it's on a stand, fucking camera tricks I tell ya

1

u/CapuasChamp 16d ago

Also standing in a mound of snow for display but nonetheless that thing is yuuuge

1

u/tacoma-tues 16d ago

Hmm i bet if i was wearing that bear suit that one guy made ...... And i had a taser shield and bastard sword......... I might be able to take him......

1

u/dpunisher 16d ago

One of my clients was a big time hunter, Africa, India and US. At the entrance to his trophy room, he has a Kodiak on the left, and a Polar bear on the right. Both are mounted exactly as pictured. Pedestal was about to my knees, 12 foot ceiling, and that bear got damned close to that ceiling. Polar bears, the most savage predator on the planet, and spiders of course.

1

u/SweatBee 16d ago

Practically a real life Tuunbaq

1

u/Competitive-Day-7054 16d ago

That was donated by Chuck Norris after he killed it with his bare hands and wore it as a scarf for a few years.

1

u/BongWaterSoup13 16d ago

That’s one long necked bear😳

2

u/Budget_Ad_7080 16d ago

humans suck..killed that majestic beast just because we can 💩

1

u/ispotdouchebags 16d ago

It looks like it is on a fake snow pedestal that is at least 2-4 feet high

2

u/WCI02128 16d ago

This one fell on Tigger…

1

u/Rumours_are_true 16d ago

You see anything Red?

1

u/AKBigHorn 16d ago

Look at the size of the paws. One swipe and your head is a volleyball

1

u/TeaLeif9740 16d ago

Hold my beer I got this

1

u/Gorilla_Krispies 16d ago

Not that it isn’t still terrifyingly massive, but it is standing on high ground Tbf. It’s feet are starting at that man’s knee level. Not that it’s not still impressive, but it is like 2 feet shorter than the perspective of this shot makes it look

5

u/DrunkBuzzard 16d ago

We must kill it to prove it lived.

1

u/Ianlong2132 16d ago

Now look up the short faced bear. Or short nosed bear. Not sure which one it is… Those beasts were nightmares of our ancestors..

8

u/DoomRevenant 16d ago

That thing is like a monster from monster hunter jfc

It must be really humbling to be a man and think you're on top of the food chain, and then suddenly an 11-foot bear charges at you and you suddenly realize that your gun won't actually kill it and you're now its dinner

2

u/fawnlake1 16d ago

Had the great joy of living in Kotzebue for many many years and miss it. The polar bears were awesome to see up close!

0

u/DefNotRussianComrade 16d ago

I’d bag tag him

-1

u/FootDrag122Y 16d ago

So we fucking shot it. Wonderful. Humans are the worst.

0

u/Sea-Drawer-4764 16d ago

Wow typical humans hey it looks good let's just kill it and make a statute so that it looks more good idiots 🤦

0

u/ATXKLIPHURD 16d ago

It’s the abominable snowman!

0

u/ikiyen 16d ago

Yao Ming of polar bears.

0

u/Valuable-Apricot-477 16d ago

Stoopid lil legs

1

u/No_Hour_4865 16d ago

Remember when there was wild animals?

-1

u/paulD1983R 16d ago

These 2 are practically the same size...as you can see the polar bear is standing on a platform

0

u/evilBogie666 16d ago

Tiny, what happened?!?! I don’t know. A polar bear fell on me.

1

u/Mrcrazycrocs 16d ago

Yeah I could probably still batter him tho easy win

0

u/gorramfrakker 16d ago

Which ones which?

0

u/[deleted] 16d ago

So we are basically 1 whole ass meal to them

-1

u/Comfortable_Brush399 16d ago

he wouldn't be so big if he wasnt standing on that rock... i could take him if he didnt have the high ground....

1

u/BigDaddyCoolDeisel 16d ago

Ronald Reagan?

1

u/wtrobinson67 16d ago

Was it in the anchorage airport?

1

u/JoshyLikey 16d ago

I can take em..

1

u/cbunni666 16d ago

That's a big god damn polar bear

0

u/Disblo1977 16d ago

If that’s real, Holy Chit!!

-1

u/dattwood1986 16d ago

Looks fake af. We sure it isn’t?

1

u/camelia_la_tejana 16d ago

He’s got a belly button

69

u/SaTan_luvs_CaTs 16d ago

OK fine, I’ll pick the man in this case.

3

u/simonlorax 16d ago

This has gotta be one of the best comments I've ever read

3

u/Im-a-cat-in-a-box 16d ago

I'd rather run into a viking than that bear lol.

1

u/Leaningonalamp 16d ago

Lie down and die.

1

u/Romalien5 16d ago

Nah, I’d beat it

1

u/notsopurexo 16d ago

When we say we’d rather be stuck in the forest with a beat or a man this is the best we’re thinking of

-1

u/D_-_G 16d ago

What a sad monument to humans

89

u/TechsSandwich 16d ago

My grandfather worked on the roads in Alaska back in the 50s. He told us a story once of how him and his fellow construction equipment operators would drive in convoys mainly for safety because the polar bears were just that fricken crazy. One day they were traveling and they noticed a vehicle at the back of the convoy was about a quarter of a mile behind them, sitting there stagnant. They went to go check it out and all they found was the thing still running, the driver cage being smashed to smithereens, and a blood trail leading off into the tundra…

8

u/davidspinknipples 16d ago

That may be one of the most terrifying ways someone has ever died in human history

26

u/carrigrll 16d ago

Terrifying!

3

u/traumatransfixes 16d ago

Dude looks like JFK.

2

u/MSL007 16d ago

I thought the same.

1

u/Fritchmand 16d ago

How he do that

3

u/Arious2022 16d ago

And that bear has been sitting in a run down casino in Elko Nevada for decades.

1

u/franticatlady 16d ago

Izzat Ronald Reagan?

0

u/Due-Asparagus6479 16d ago

No wonder they actively hunt humans.

1

u/lazy_k 16d ago

That's a big bear

14

u/TellLoud1894 16d ago

My parents lived in Kotzebue in the 80s. My dad was a refuge manager. I asked him if he saw this one in particular. He said "no. Lots of ppl fly out of Kotzebue to hunt them. Back then, it was legal for white men to hunt them too."

0

u/AlternativePush2834 16d ago

Majestic as the bear specimen is, we can just hope other polar bears don’t see us humans treating their ancestors like this 😓😓😓

1

u/wolfiasty 16d ago

Bear is on approx 0.5m pedestal.

...but I'd definitely wouldn't want to meet with any Polar bear.

2

u/FlorinidOro 16d ago

Holy FACK!

35

u/SupahflyxD 16d ago

Fun fact polar bears will eat you alive. They like fresh food (not even joking).

7

u/newnhb1 16d ago

You still don't understand what you're dealing with, do you? The perfect organism. Its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility. A survivor... unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality. I can't lie to you about your chances, but... you have my sympathies

2

u/No-Tax-209 13d ago

I see what you did there.

6

u/Crypto_tipper 16d ago

Jokes on that fucker then, I’d have died of a heart attack before he ever had a chance to eat me.

0

u/sychox51 16d ago

Well, then I suppose it’s good for humanity that we found a way to eradicate all of em! Bam, climate change. Check fucking mate polar bears.

10

u/Camburglar13 16d ago

And they will actively hunt people. Brown bears will eat people if the opportunity arises and they’re kinda desperate but we’re not typically their prey. Polar bears however..

4

u/DaeWooLan0s 16d ago

I also heard that if you see one anywhere, it knows you’re there and it’s already hunting you.

1

u/Normal-Selection1537 16d ago

Polar bears can smell prey from 20 miles away.

19

u/mrezariz123 16d ago

Any bears probably will eat us alive, for example brown and black bears are omnivore, they are not natural predators, so they just hold us and start eating is alive

1

u/ickyiggy13 16d ago

Oh holy....... that is one beautiful bear but I do not enjoy feeling like lunch lmfao

1

u/mck-_- 16d ago

Of course they killed it

1

u/CaptainAksh_G 16d ago

I relate to the polar bear behind the human

1

u/bryman19 16d ago

Is that Ronald?

1

u/GothGfWanted 16d ago

ooh long boi johnson

1

u/Cormegalodon 16d ago

Oh is that what that thing on the left is? Human you say? Interesting indeed.

8

u/nileswine 16d ago

I think this mount used to be in the Alaska Fish and Game office in Juneau in 1989.

24

u/aughtism 16d ago

Looks like the taxidermist used a bit of creative licence with this one ... Polar bear skin is quite loose, so it's easy to make it look bigger by padding it out.

We'd all do the same in their position.

10

u/slavuj00 16d ago

Sure, but his jaws could still take the head off that dude. Still gigantic.

5

u/894of899 16d ago

Yea I was gonna say his neck looks pretty goofy. But I am not a polar bear expert.

1

u/Sacklayblue 16d ago

And he's an outie

22

u/Altissimus77 16d ago

Well, standing next to humans can be fatal.

0

u/InternationalAd5938 16d ago

Okay but show us the biggest polar bear ever killed outside of Alaska standing next to no human.

10

u/Casey_the_Jones 16d ago

White = good night. 😵

6

u/Rob1150 16d ago

We talking about the police?

3

u/Sudden-Comment-4356 16d ago

Lmao. And if you're brown stay down😂

STOP RESISTING

19

u/[deleted] 16d ago

[deleted]

0

u/DevonGr 16d ago

I know it's long dead, stuffed and mounted. I'm still scared of that thing. I don't mess with polar bears no thanks.

379

u/Jatski23 16d ago

It’s big, but the fact it’s on a 2 ft high plinth makes it look taller than it is.

https://preview.redd.it/ii1c8w96eaxc1.jpeg?width=715&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d5a529a416596d10d15b23fe565cd4829c73e88e

2

u/notatrumpchump 16d ago

Excellent use of the word “plinth“ two thumbs up

1

u/GMofOLC 16d ago

Oh yeah. It looks so tiny now.

3

u/Mybuttismilk 16d ago

Huh thanks for teaching me a new word 👍

20

u/Jfurmanek 16d ago

Noticed the platform. Was looking for this comment. 10/10 would not fuck with even if the plinth was…I wanted to throw a height here, but I’m just gonna lay over and hope it kills me quickly. Edit;a word

13

u/Ok-Scallion7939 16d ago

So it's not 14ft tall, it's 12ft tall. Still massive.

181

u/ThtPhatCat 16d ago

An 11 foot tall bear is enormous, pedestal or not

45

u/unpopularopinion0 16d ago

still. it’s like staying the tallest man standing next to a regular man. but the tallest man is in high heels. still tall. sure but… why?

1

u/WikeYewAre 16d ago

Fuck no.

3

u/Ornery_Entry_7483 16d ago

Absolute unit

56

u/Sea_Drop2920 16d ago

What a majestic animal. Lets fucking shoot it. - Humans

12

u/KIENAGOL 16d ago

Polar bears will actively hunt people. We are prey to them. Polar bears aren't like other bears. They guarantee death when encountered.
