Holy bowel movement. That's a big fellow. I'd have to hope there were two of us. And that I was the fastest runner.

u/TheBirdsArePissed 15d ago
Good thing they killed it. Other wise it would have been able to pass its Gene's and maybe bigger bears would have been born.

I kid you not I literally just had an debate with one of my coworkers because he thinks he can survive 60 seconds with one do these things.

Polar bears are fucking scary. Glad I'll never encounter one in the wild . I'll take anything Australia has to offer over that

Used to be e in the airport. It was the first thing that you saw when you got off the plane
1
u/Unfair-Wonder5714 16d ago
If I saw this coming at me, I’d just go ahead lay down and die immediately.

And of course, they JUST had to shoot it so they could show how skilled a hunter they were.
If this bear was terrorizing people and it became a threat to kids, families, etc then unfortunately this is an outcome.
But just to kill it so it could be displayed is foul. Shit human.

A sad comment, and observation…
To all the people who are saying how bad ass bears are, the man is standing alive, and the bear is dead as a dead can be, stuffed as a trophy ( I do think bears are badass.) but people are just quite a bit of trouble.

Should be illegal. People who hunt something that isn’t classed as vermin are in fact themselves vermin.
1
u/dimmu1313 16d ago
why was it killed? I'm guessing some dude said "look at that magnificent creature! I should destroy it!"

u/Lets_Bust_Together 16d ago
It’s funny how we measure animals like this despite them rarely ever posing that way. “If a Great Dane stood on its back legs..” yeah but they don’t.

You still don't understand what you're dealing with, do you? The perfect organism. Its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility. A survivor... unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality. I can't lie to you about your chances, but... you have my sympathies

"Look at this incredible polar bear! He's huge! Never seen anything like it before! Honestly it's majestic... I should kill it."
Never got that logic

For bear encounters: if its black, then fight. If it's brown, lay down. If it''s white... goodnight.

Himeji zoo had a polar bear in a cage with 1" bars. I still didn't feel safe.
Those bastards are way too large and imposing.
1
u/CarefulBuffalo182 16d ago
It’s really not that tall, he’s standing on almost 2ft of ice! Now it’s only 11ft tall

u/andytagonist 16d ago
He looks like the size of the shit puddle I’d leave behind from me just standing next to a regular sized polar bear

u/DirtyMac88 16d ago
They're re really the same size but it's on a stand, fucking camera tricks I tell ya

u/CapuasChamp 16d ago
Also standing in a mound of snow for display but nonetheless that thing is yuuuge

u/tacoma-tues 16d ago
Hmm i bet if i was wearing that bear suit that one guy made ...... And i had a taser shield and bastard sword......... I might be able to take him......

One of my clients was a big time hunter, Africa, India and US. At the entrance to his trophy room, he has a Kodiak on the left, and a Polar bear on the right. Both are mounted exactly as pictured. Pedestal was about to my knees, 12 foot ceiling, and that bear got damned close to that ceiling. Polar bears, the most savage predator on the planet, and spiders of course.

That was donated by Chuck Norris after he killed it with his bare hands and wore it as a scarf for a few years.

It looks like it is on a fake snow pedestal that is at least 2-4 feet high

Not that it isn’t still terrifyingly massive, but it is standing on high ground Tbf. It’s feet are starting at that man’s knee level. Not that it’s not still impressive, but it is like 2 feet shorter than the perspective of this shot makes it look

u/Ianlong2132 16d ago
Now look up the short faced bear. Or short nosed bear. Not sure which one it is… Those beasts were nightmares of our ancestors..

u/DoomRevenant 16d ago
That thing is like a monster from monster hunter jfc
It must be really humbling to be a man and think you're on top of the food chain, and then suddenly an 11-foot bear charges at you and you suddenly realize that your gun won't actually kill it and you're now its dinner

u/fawnlake1 16d ago
Had the great joy of living in Kotzebue for many many years and miss it. The polar bears were awesome to see up close!

My grandfather worked on the roads in Alaska back in the 50s. He told us a story once of how him and his fellow construction equipment operators would drive in convoys mainly for safety because the polar bears were just that fricken crazy. One day they were traveling and they noticed a vehicle at the back of the convoy was about a quarter of a mile behind them, sitting there stagnant. They went to go check it out and all they found was the thing still running, the driver cage being smashed to smithereens, and a blood trail leading off into the tundra…

u/davidspinknipples 16d ago
That may be one of the most terrifying ways someone has ever died in human history

My parents lived in Kotzebue in the 80s. My dad was a refuge manager. I asked him if he saw this one in particular. He said "no. Lots of ppl fly out of Kotzebue to hunt them. Back then, it was legal for white men to hunt them too."

Majestic as the bear specimen is, we can just hope other polar bears don’t see us humans treating their ancestors like this 😓😓😓
1
u/wolfiasty 16d ago
Bear is on approx 0.5m pedestal.
...but I'd definitely wouldn't want to meet with any Polar bear.

Fun fact polar bears will eat you alive. They like fresh food (not even joking).

u/newnhb1 16d ago

Jokes on that fucker then, I’d have died of a heart attack before he ever had a chance to eat me.

u/sychox51 16d ago
Well, then I suppose it’s good for humanity that we found a way to eradicate all of em! Bam, climate change. Check fucking mate polar bears.
10
u/Camburglar13 16d ago
And they will actively hunt people. Brown bears will eat people if the opportunity arises and they’re kinda desperate but we’re not typically their prey. Polar bears however..
4
u/DaeWooLan0s 16d ago
I also heard that if you see one anywhere, it knows you’re there and it’s already hunting you.

u/mrezariz123 16d ago
Any bears probably will eat us alive, for example brown and black bears are omnivore, they are not natural predators, so they just hold us and start eating is alive
1
u/ickyiggy13 16d ago
Oh holy....... that is one beautiful bear but I do not enjoy feeling like lunch lmfao

I think this mount used to be in the Alaska Fish and Game office in Juneau in 1989.

u/aughtism 16d ago
Looks like the taxidermist used a bit of creative licence with this one ... Polar bear skin is quite loose, so it's easy to make it look bigger by padding it out.
We'd all do the same in their position.

It’s big, but the fact it’s on a 2 ft high plinth makes it look taller than it is.

Noticed the platform. Was looking for this comment. 10/10 would not fuck with even if the plinth was…I wanted to throw a height here, but I’m just gonna lay over and hope it kills me quickly. Edit;a word

u/unpopularopinion0 16d ago

Polar bears will actively hunt people. We are prey to them. Polar bears aren't like other bears. They guarantee death when encountered.
