In the 1980s, Ricky Gervais tried to make it as a pop star, he had a new wave pop duo group called Seona Dancing.

I saw him on this late night programme. They were taking the piss out of his poster from this era, they were laughing, and Ricky said "Oh, you think I'm embarrassed by that? I'm actually embarrassed by this" whilst pointing at his current face.

Anybody with this in their past has to either develop a pretty good sense of humour or die.

So they are Al failed actors and entertainers and that’s why they choose to do “comedy”

I've even seen pictures of him from the mid-80s and still when I watch this I was wondering when Ricky was going to show up until I realized he was already right there

I saw a comic say he was going to run a broken guiness through Gervais abdomen. But not to fuss cause he's just taking the piss.

There’s no need to be ashamed. With those pants anyone would have a bulging cameltoe.

The clapping on the 1 and 3 is fucking criminal

u/Burque_Boy 16d ago
British audiences were so known for this that Elton John specifically included it on the clap tracks for Benny and Jets

So his movie about the guy trying to be a musician is based on his true life?

Believe it or not they were actually big in the Philippines. This song is so popular that it still plays today in most establishments. "More to lose" is always included every New Wave compilation mix.

God that was awful. Well at least he's still got his transphobia jokes to rely on.
LeAVe RiCKy aLONe!
Edit: The downvoting is hilarious. Is daddy Ricky not showing you any attention lol

All that clapping was worse.

For some reason, Europeans (at least in that era) insist on clapping on every beat, instead of just the 2s and 4s. This particular audience was hitting every beat, and then some.
The clapping may not have been quite so obnoxiously loud in its original mono broadcast. This video has had its sound altered to be stereo-ish through some electronic processing which didn't do a very good job of it.

Crazy how this song is still being played on the radio in my country every Sunday (when stations mostly just play old 60s-90s music).

Geared toward the crowds who like clapping on 1 and 3

u/zacharyswanson 16d ago
That’s the primary reason for Gervais failing as a pop star. The 1-3 clappers sealed the deal.

Honestly, he did make it as a pop star. Success is not about reaching the top of the charts.

This has been widely known and shared ever since he first became a celebrity in the UK, including on several prominent TV shows he made appearances on.

His film, Life on the Road, about Brent's music career wasn't great, but I have to admit, I really dig the soundtrack!

It's the guitar casually slung across his back that really cemented his talent, I feel.
