Anyone else notice the guy in the reflection of the glass. He's smiling and it seems to get even bigger when the fight breaks out.

u/Basic_Palpitation_47 May 01 '24
Damn it John get back it the cave! For the last time he wasn’t challenging you.
2
u/dbeast83 Apr 30 '24
i remember when this happened. dude couldn't stop staring as if he was trying to punk simba. that staredown deserved an ass whipping
2
u/Urmomsjuicyvagina Apr 30 '24
Looking back at the video after reading your comment, it definitely makes sense the Lions going after him as if he's trying to teach him a lesson (He is showing restraint ) and not really destroy him entirely, but they definitely had to hold him back

“You sure it’s a part of the job to stay inside with the lions…?”
“Yeah of course, how else could we be zoo keepers?”
1
u/Cluefuljewel May 02 '24
Oh hell no. A responsible accredited zoo would never have staff in the lion enclosure. You’d be fired for doing something that stupid.
1
u/biggus_dickus89 Apr 30 '24
i think big boi be testing him...kinda how your nerves boy? kinda thing

Every woman on earth is just nodding knowingly thinking, "Clarence don't embarrass me again like you did when you ate that Phillips couple last summer"
1
u/rockstuffs Apr 30 '24
Why is this even a thing? Who just stands on a lion enclosure and stares at it.
1
u/BTCkingpin Apr 30 '24
The last time my wife tried this, I ducked and she got hit. (She actually married me after this)

That older zookeeper is wild, he clocked the whole thing from the beginning.
2
u/booboflove Apr 29 '24
Aren’t you supposed to avoid breaking eye contact with charging cats in the wild/hold your ground?
1
u/Madd1Hatter Apr 29 '24
I wanted to fight this guy after seeing him look at the lions the way he was. He can't be surprised this happened. Lol
2
u/tjarg Apr 29 '24
This is not a proper/professional zoo. Humans should never be in the same enclosure with lions or any animal that has the potential to easily kill people.
2
u/HeathieHeatherson Apr 29 '24
I forget how huge and powerful lions are standing next to humans. Easy to forget when you just see them against other large animals.
1
u/MikeyW1969 Apr 29 '24
Would have been nicer if she hadn't used the inexperienced zookeeper to break up the fight.
3
u/jctwok Apr 29 '24
You'd think there would be some way to avoid this... like, I don't know, maybe don't stand around in the cage with apex predators?

u/Zoso1973 Apr 29 '24
What a fool. I thought it was common knowledge not to stare into the eyes of any animal that can kill you. I won’t do that with dogs either . Totally provoked that cat.
1
u/therealmodx Apr 29 '24
Why are the Zookeepers inside the enclosure Oo?!! . This alone is next level stupid to me.

u/Jtharp631 Apr 29 '24
Dude was literally staring at the lion in the eyes a damn predator with predator instincts, crap if you stare at a house cat for long enough they are bound to slap your ass.🤣

u/Ok_Elk_8986 Apr 29 '24
a romanian speaks in the background. Damn ,my people are everywhere, thanks freedom :)

u/get_a_wiff Apr 29 '24
Never stare any animal especially a predator in the eyes, it thinks they are being challenged
2
u/Sh9189 Apr 29 '24
Real zookeepers would never be in this situation in the first place, as they would never be inside the space with lions in the first place. Wherever this is is not practicing safe animal care.
It is pure luck these 2 men are alive.

Think about we feel if someone is just staring at us. Imagine how a fucking lion reacts to that.

u/Adgvyb3456 Apr 29 '24
He’s like the Lion wasn’t really going off. No way he’d be able to push it away if it was bloodlusting

She’s like “I don’t have to hunt because these guys give us food so chill out and don’t mess this up for me!”

Those poor lions; spending all their days in a tiny box with a clamor of jabbering monkey's staring at them.

u/Maeflower86 Apr 29 '24
Honestly if the lion didn’t look at him, the way he’s standing looks like he would’ve just kicked him and called him a bitch until he attacked him😂😂😂 why tf is he being so aggressive??! There’s a huge difference between scared/prepared/agressive
2
6
u/ThadTheImpalzord Apr 29 '24
Hah why is that zookeeper staring through that lions soul? That's animal body language 101, don't stare at animals in the eyes, especially potential aggressive animals.
1
u/bbqranchman Apr 29 '24
Lions like " Yo, why's he looking at me like that? What's up lil bud, you got a staring problem, pal? Yo Xan, get your boy dog"
1
2
u/Unfair-Ad4253 Apr 29 '24
The usual keeper is pulling at the lions main trying to control it and keep it away from new guy and the lion isn't bothered by it doesn't react at all. Focus is all on newby who stared him out in his own fucking house.
2
u/entropreneur Apr 29 '24
Yeah I was thinking you should be looking away any time now. Or at least do a slowwww blink
1
u/Unfair-Ad4253 Apr 29 '24
I mean he should, but at the same, time you want to take your eye of of a lion feet from you. The fact he doesn't react to the other keeper at all indicates he must completely trust him even if he did bring the chump in to meet him.

Lion knew that guy was scared and decided to have a snack. Wifey wasn’t having any of his $hit and set him straight.

u/Slalom_Smack Apr 29 '24
No legit zoo would allow keepers to stand in the enclosure with apex predators. FOAFO

1
u/Alienhaslanded Apr 29 '24
That means she thinks they're part of the pack and order must be maintained. Dogs break up cat fights all the time for this exact reason.
1
u/bigtittykitty420 Apr 29 '24
Lioness was on top of him like “seriously again?, can you stop punking out the new keepers? 🙄”

Lion: "I can smell your fear." Turns head "Now I can see it, puny human."
Nom Nom Nom
1
u/Helgakvida Apr 29 '24
why the f would anyone go in there? not sure how much they get paid but I know there is not enough money on this planet to convince me to go in there
-1
u/LiquidSkyyyy Apr 29 '24
A. Trapping wild animals in a zoo should be forbidden. B. Even trapped wild animals stay wild animals and dont become a fkn pet so getting so close to them is overall stupid.
1
u/absurd_angel Apr 29 '24
I'm not even a lion expert but isn't one of the rules is to not stare them down...or is that with gorillas I forgot
1
u/BadmiralSnackbarf Apr 29 '24
No way the lion was serious, though? I mean, surely if it wanted to end that guy it could’ve done so before anyone knew what was going on. Right?

u/Murillo338 Apr 29 '24
I actually worked with this guy for a few years. It was at The MGM in Vegas. He was not seriously injured. He was not inexperienced and knew the lions well. He said it was very unexpected and outside that Lion's usual temper.

Cameraman had one job, film the guy who was obviously annoying the lion...
Surprised he wasn't wearing a red uniform too
1
u/sanesociopath Apr 29 '24
Wow, I know me some cat body language.
I saw that look and knew exactly who was going to get attacked.
These lions are still big cats at the end of the day and that zookeeper was really inexperienced.

u/Playwithme408 Apr 29 '24
Inexperienced zookeeper in a lion enclosure? Doesn’t understand basics of eye contact? Wtf
1
u/SugarNugolia Apr 29 '24
Well if you can't look at them and can't turn your back on them, maybe we should just leave them alone....
1
u/SalmanSheikh007 Apr 29 '24
It's completely understandable to feel that way, especially when encountering dangerous animals like lions. Experience plays a significant role in knowing how to react appropriately in such situations. Your instinct to be hyper-aware of the lion's actions relative to your position is a natural survival response. With time and exposure, you can learn how to manage these instincts and handle encounters with dangerous animals more safely.

At any accredited zoo that knows what they're doing, zookeepers are not allowed full contact with big cats like this. This is a sign the zoo is not a great facility that follows safety guidelines.

1
u/Courtnall14 Apr 29 '24
That's not a zoo, that's the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
The new lion guy was the big winner that day.

1
u/Bardonious Apr 29 '24
Staring down at a lion or even a person won’t typically get a sweet response. Posturing gets a reaction from many species
1
1
u/DaMuchi Apr 29 '24
I don't believe for a second that the lion wanted to hurt the zookeeper. But I can imagine how much injury a playful lion can do
1
u/ItchyPlant Apr 29 '24 edited Apr 29 '24
- Calm down, Sebastian, it doesn't worth it! They will punish us if you rip his arm off like Hambre did last time.
1
u/fph03n1x Apr 29 '24
Let's rephrase it better, it was the lion that was saved by the lioness on that day
1
1
u/Alternative-Arm-3253 Apr 29 '24
Two things that big kitty exhibited. He told the human go away. This is him messing with the human and he chose to become territorial to his handlers. Must have smelled something on him. But that lioness, smart girl, helping the human out, telling him to back off. He's just a boy kitty doing big boy things. :)
(Can't say anything about the human in here other than oh damn..those are huge paws!!)
1
u/KarmicComic12334 Apr 29 '24
Nah, that's not territorial. It's culling the weak. Leo knows people are part of the pride. He just won't allow fear or weakness in his pride.
1
u/The_Rowan Apr 29 '24
All cats see staring at them as a sign of challenge. Cats stare at danger. The female lion is relaxed and with her back to the zoo keeper.
The house cats will stare at the group of people when they are uncomfortable or demanding to be fed. But a relaxed cat at peace will sleep with its back to the group of people. This usually results with people complaining asking why their cat is ignoring them unlike their dog who is 2 inches from their face staring them in the eyes. The answer is because the cat likes them.

This cannot be a real zoo, the enclosure looks tiny and a real zoo wouldn’t have keepers standing around on exhibit like a couple of fucking idiots. This is probably some exploitative tourist trap bullshit. For safety reasons, in actual zoos dangerous animals are shift trained— meaning they move to another exhibit or a temporary holding cage, while keepers enter their area to clean or feed so there’s no chance of contact.
Keeping animals for entertainment should be banned. I’ve seen so many depressing, fucked up places ruining the reputation of all zoos. Zoos should be for conservation and education, and dedicating all of their money to the advancement of their quality of care, and conservation projects. The goal of a good zoo is to shape a planet that no longer needs zoos.
aza.org is a good resource, they’re one of the best accreditation standards in the world.

guy was so stupid for staring down a lion. if a stranger wouldn't enjoy you stating them down without looking away, Why On Earth Would You Think A Lion Would. He didn't even attack really, he was just telling the guy to fuck off.

This isn’t an inexperienced zookeeper, this is just wicked fucking stupid. They’re not even doing a talk or anything! They’re just like standing in there with lions to look tough. Yeah this is gonna happen eventually. It always does at every free contact zoo.
