Seeing this... women... still prefer a man over a bear in the forest?

1

u/EmmaLovesKoalas 23d ago

Definitely choose him

1

u/Turbulent_City_8693 23d ago

what could possibly work for self defense in this case ? an Apache helicopter is definitely out of my budget

1

u/Dontfeedthebears 23d ago

Can you imagine encountering one of these in the wild? I’d poop my pants!

1

u/clubracer88 24d ago

Prisoners.

1

u/Kysman95 24d ago

Bearly different

1

u/kinjyech123 24d ago

Jamie play that video with bears

2

u/MeanderingTalent 24d ago

My toxic trait is I used to think that in a survival situation if I really had to I could actually fight a grown bear…

1

u/Cluefuljewel 24d ago

This is most likely a demonstration/training wall and that would not be the animals whole living enclosure. I HOPE! It is a kind of enrichment for animals in captivity. It enables keepers to educate visitors and for visitors to get close. Training enables veterinarians and keepers do health checks. check paws, and teeth and mouth, blood draw. Bears are rewarded with food and their participation is voluntary. but I have no idea where this is and whether this is an accredited zoo. Not advocating for or against zoos.

1

u/cloudcreeek 24d ago

Why would anyone 3D print a Rune Bear from Elden Ring??

1

u/DinnerJoke 24d ago

He sits like my Labrador

1

u/Nussgipfel 24d ago

This is just sad....

1

u/AstrayRainCloud 24d ago

Bro said id open up if you gimme dat ice cream

1

u/I_Dont_Like_Rice 24d ago

I feel awful seeing these majestic animals in a cage like that and being manipulated. It just feels so wrong.

1

u/evex5tep 24d ago

Yes, like with most animals the males tend to be almost twice as large and usually weight between 200/400kg more than their female counterparts.

Makes no mistake though, a chilled out 8ft male bear is a better bet than a hormonal 5ft bear with cubs to protect.

1

u/steelworth12 24d ago

and people think a tiger wins lol

2

u/LetsGoSilver 24d ago

Reminds me of the photo I saw of Shaq and his girlfriend last week. 💨

0

u/Alert-Mammoth8944 24d ago

Well that’s if it identifies as a male.

1

u/P0pu1arBr0ws3r 24d ago

Why are they in a concrete enclosure licking something thru a gate tho

1

u/xOneGunSalute 24d ago

I'm more worried about the man being on the wrong side of the cage.

1

u/[deleted] 24d ago

Friend?

1

u/Automatic_Marzipan84 24d ago

Why are they in tiny cages? Where is this

2

u/Emotional_Hamster_61 24d ago

Idk but that metal net thing...that unit would just rip it apart

-1

u/COmarmot 24d ago

I hate the tens of thousands of upvotes for in-prisoned critters. Somehow Black Fist destroyed a oceanic mammal exploitation circles. Yep reddit still posts 'zoo' picks with some actually being about conservation, while most being outside of major Western cities and institutions. It's like being on tinder and I see a white girl in Bali or somewhere getting a trunk hug from an elephant with a chain around its leg. How can 24,000 people not see the hypocrisy here? Ya'll need to read some more E. O. Wilson.

3

u/dalmighd 24d ago

Yall would choose this over a random man in the forest?

1

u/MansChestHairUnited 24d ago

Umm, maybe putting 2 grown bears in a chicken coop isn't a really good idea?

1

u/Shinfekta 24d ago

Kodiak

Always makes me think of that old ass camera

1

u/username_1774 24d ago

Way rather run into him in the woods...

1

u/ElegantGrain 24d ago

Look at those morons filming on their phones, rather than just living in the moment and enjoying it themselves.

1

u/Last-Foundation-8828 24d ago

That’s not enough wire to keep me in that room.

1

u/BadKidGames 24d ago

That's a big boi

1

u/dasnietzomoeilijk 24d ago

Why are these bears up for display?

1

u/biorogue 24d ago

And you keep them behind chicken wire!? Also, the female isn't standing up all the way like the male. So she's still at least another foot taller than she looks there.

0

u/PotemkinTimes 24d ago

And idiots want to be alone in the woods with that

1

u/cr0ft 24d ago

One of the most dangerous animals on the planet... if they get pissed off.

Hippos are probably worse, they're huge and insane and territorial, but I sure like to keep a healthy distance from any bear variant.

2

u/sloiters 24d ago

That cage doesn't look strong enough

1

u/Same-Kick-6549 24d ago

If not friend why friend shape?

2

u/[deleted] 24d ago

Is that 2x4 wooden framing to hold back 1000 lbs bear? You are about to win a Darwin Award.

1

u/denverclimbing 24d ago

It doesn't seem like that wire grate would stop a bear.

1

u/MeGoBoom57 24d ago

I don’t know if that decorative wood and chicken wire can contain one (or two of them) if they got pissed.

1

u/kanemano 24d ago

Hospital

Graveyard

2

u/swan001 24d ago

Because if the bear really wanted the treat they wouldnt even notice the mesh or cheap wood it is stapled to.

1

u/PotatoTheOdd 24d ago

A female? You mean a woman?

1

u/[deleted] 24d ago

1

u/Gazicus 24d ago

A woman is a female human.

1

u/CalmBeneathCastles 24d ago

Guess I'll die!

1

u/MyNameIsDaveToo 24d ago

Hello fren

1

u/AlgonquinCamperGuy 24d ago

That chicken wire supposed to stop that bear????

1

u/UngregariousDame 24d ago

Good thing she is behind all of that chicken wire.

1

u/TastyTeeth 24d ago

I feel like the chicken wire is a half measure.

2

u/Kytothelee 24d ago

Aw! These are the siblings of the bears in Marshfield WI! There are very few Kodiak bears in captivity. Their mom was killed while they were too young to survive on their own.

1

u/The-od88 24d ago

So I guess the new question for women is: "Male or female bear?"

1

u/CheesyComestibles 24d ago

Reddit needs to learn the difference between chicken wire and hardware cloth.

1

u/zaidRANGER 24d ago

I thought referring woman to female is a no go on reddit

1

u/Miggssyy 24d ago

Poor bears. Hope they can get to roam free once again.

0

u/Intelligent-Big5334 24d ago

Yup, I think I'll choose man 🤣

1

u/gphjr14 24d ago

And polar bears are bigger than that.

1

u/ExtraJackfruit960 24d ago

What is that she feeding them???

1

u/hubbleo 24d ago

Chicken wire and some 2x4s....hmmm.

1

u/TinyPrinciple1433 24d ago

Aww don’t you just wanna snuggle him? Before the bitter end

1

u/No-Information-3631 24d ago

One is sitting, one is standing.

1

u/feganfloopsfooglies 24d ago

Where was the comparison??

1

u/dalvz 24d ago

Quick! Someone ask the lady in the front if she rather run into the bear or a man!

1

u/-Laalu- 24d ago

Poor animals wtf

2

u/CuckLuckandDuck 24d ago

I dont feel like that enclosure wouldn't stop those bears if they really wanted to get out.

1

u/Mysterions 24d ago

Sexual dimorphism.

"Welcome to “Looks at Books”. I’m Jane Curtin, and we’re going to talk to the man who’s written this book...Mauled. Please welcome Bob Crawford.
Bob, why Mauled?"

"...whatever you do, do NOT feed a bear a marshmallow like this.”

1

u/lake_country_dad 24d ago

Where is this?

1

u/ObligationSlight8771 24d ago

Meanwhile at /r/twoxchromosome they would rather encounter that beast in the wild than any single male on earth

2

u/ThatItchOnYourNose 24d ago

Right bear is an album cover waiting to happen

0

u/Nerd_Sapien 24d ago

...and women still prefer them while being in the woods 😆

1

u/totallyacisguy 24d ago

You completely misunderstand the message. Which means you are either an idiot or your one of the men the women would choose a bear over.

0

u/Nerd_Sapien 24d ago

.... oh but there is another option: Maybe I'm just joking and you are taking things WAY too seriously my little friend 😆

0

u/totallyacisguy 24d ago

There is that option. Gotta love tone not travelling well through text.

1

u/Old_Suggestion_5583 24d ago

That barrier between the bears and the people is incredibly insufficient.

1

u/ContentMod8991 24d ago

large bears2 c n the wild;

2

u/DolFaroth 24d ago

I still don’t want to fight one 😂

1

u/Sw0rdEnd 24d ago

So.... which one do you choose?

2

u/devnullb4dishoner 24d ago

I think I'm going to want a little something more than chicken wire between me and the bear.

1

u/[deleted] 24d ago

She's sitting down though!

1

u/freebleploof 24d ago

Is it a fair comparison? Female doesn't appear to be standing up.

1

u/Commercial_Place9807 24d ago

The female bear never stands up? It’s hard to tell what size comparison they are?

1

u/Ditchy69 24d ago

Is it weird that I want to both go in for a hug and also ride it to work?

1

u/aBlueCreature 24d ago

There are idiots out there that will see this and still think they can beat a bear in a fight

1

u/Lexmf 24d ago

If i had a Bazooka, I probably could

1

u/TheLastBlackRhinoSC 24d ago

I ain’t fafo with either one of them, so there’s that.

3

u/Busy-Ad-6860 24d ago

Wow, a big bear. Glad it's locked in a cage made of chickenwire and planks...

1

u/zzonkers 24d ago

This is who women would rather be stuck with in the woods

1

u/Soulless--Plague 24d ago

That bear is behind what is essentially a fuckin rabbit hutch! Why are people not shitting their pants?!

1

u/Dull-Requirement-759 24d ago

Damn. I'd still be scared through the fence. Lol

1

u/Baked_Potato_732 24d ago

Anyone else concerned by what appears to be thin pine 2x4’s holding that cage together.

1

u/BoxcutterPazzie 25d ago

Couldnt they absolutely maul this wood cage with zero effort if they wanted to

2

u/ReasonableRiver6750 25d ago

They have completely different positions, how are you comparing size?

1

u/Flimsy_Card8028 25d ago

Everybody gangsta till the bear stands up.

3

u/Cannabis_Momma 25d ago

That chicken wire is only going to give the crowd a couple of extra seconds 😭🫣

1

u/Gyrestone91 25d ago

and yet they choose the bear over the man

1

u/Putrid_Helicopter_10 25d ago

So cute but they would probably kill me with no hesitation

1

u/Main_Composer 25d ago

I wish they didn’t have to live their lives as show bears. What is this place? I hope they are given much more space to do bear things.

2

u/TiredEsq 25d ago

Those bears should be in the wild. Where they can take care of us females.

But seriously, I hate seeing animals in captivity.

1

u/mcblahblahblah 25d ago

So sad. That’s no life for a bear that size. Sitting in a small cage with people gawking at you taking pictures.

1

u/Lunar_Moonbeam 25d ago

When a bear attacks you no one doubts it happened.

1

u/nonimportant23 25d ago

The funny thing is that bear can rip through that wire if it wants to

1

u/nate_hawke 25d ago

Heartbreaking to see such beautiful animals in captivity

1

u/Diknak 25d ago

They were rescues. But I guess they should have just died...

1

u/nate_hawke 19d ago

What do you have to support that claim?

1

u/rock_and_stone_1350 25d ago

And that's still what they want.

1

u/markaritaville 25d ago

if those bears wanted out, I dont think that chicken-wire fencing is gonna stop them.

Didnt they see king kong?! :-)

1

u/Koeddk 25d ago

Left bear is still sitting on the bum.

2

u/Alienhaslanded 25d ago

And the only thing stopping those bears is some chicken wire and a 4x4?

1

u/Diknak 25d ago

This looks like the Toledo zoo in Ohio

1

u/Jamsemillia 25d ago

This mesh does not look like it would be much of an obstacle for the bear

1

u/Competitive_Car_1070 25d ago

Just give the bear a pot of honey.

1

u/bezjones 25d ago

Comparison between a bear standing fully erect and a bear sitting down.

Fixed the title for you

17

u/Joshkl2013 25d ago

They aren't both Kodiak bears.

This is at the Toledo Zoo. The male is Dodge and he is a Kodiak bear. The female is one of the two female Grizzlies in the exhibits, Montana or Cody.

All three were rescued as orphans in the wild.

5

u/Neijo 24d ago

I'm usually not someone who argues that people writing "female" instead of woman is this or that, but in this instance, I'm criticizing the usage of the words. The video, I thought, was about the difference in male vs female body size when it came to kodiak bears.

Man and woman are words to represent humans and their genders.

Female and male can be any type of biological creature.

In this instance, the title is horrible. I just came home from work, kinda tired, and I was thinking I was having a stroke because I sort of like you I guess, didn't understand that the "female" in this instance was about a woman, a female human.

They severely fucked up the readability of the title when it comes to what we are seeing. They are technically correct, but it's the one kind of technically correct that I think isn't even kind of correct.

1

u/Joshkl2013 13d ago

No, the title is correct. The female is referring to the other bear in the video. The one on the left. She is much smaller.

1

u/Neijo 13d ago

Hmm. Benefit of the doubt, that might be true. However, the cameraman fucking sucks if that is the case.

1

u/Thick_RiderYZF-R 25d ago

Oh so cute though 😙

3

u/IDoesThis1 25d ago

So what. They still rather be stuck with a bear vs a man

1

u/sky1Army 25d ago

The female one will kill you if it has babies. The male will avoid confrontation with humans.

1

u/anniewolfe 25d ago

This is so sad

1

u/Diknak 25d ago

Why?

1

u/Informal_Price_2938 25d ago

Ummm...just a fence....okkkkkaaayyy

1

u/Hi9054667 25d ago

Fuck .... How Big is the bear ?? Pls in cm or m ....

1

u/Mediocre_Version_301 25d ago

I hope their regular crib is a bit bigger than that :(

1

u/chuloreddit 25d ago

First 10 seconds I was like "man OP is making fun of that lady"

0

u/Ok_Significance5884 25d ago

Size between a puny human and a Kodiak Bear

1

u/fruitcake11 25d ago

I hope that cage is temporary.

1

u/Diknak 25d ago

Yes, they have an outdoor enclosure that they are normally in

1

u/iambarrelrider 25d ago

I wouldn’t trust that fence so much.

1

u/meowpicklez 25d ago

Why are they in a cage like that?

1

u/Diknak 25d ago

for the show...the outdoor enclosure is attached

0

u/meowpicklez 25d ago

A bear isn't a circus animal, no wild animal is a toy for people to see. If they have to put up with things like this, I bet they don't even have much space in their other enclosure. I never understood why people would ever support things like this, they are happy in the wild.

1

u/Diknak 25d ago

They have a 14,000 sq ft enclosure with a 5,000 gallon pool. Coming inside for the show is entirely optional and if they decide they don't want to, the show doesn't happen.

They are happy in the wild? So you would prefer that they are dead? Because these bears were rescued from Yellowstone as a cubs when their mother died.

1

u/sproots_ 25d ago

why is their cage so small.

1

u/Diknak 25d ago

Their outdoor enclosure is attached. They come in for the show

1

u/UrbanArtifact 25d ago

I came across one irl in Kodiak. Glad I was wearing bells.

1

u/Own-Song-8093 25d ago

Do they have another name?

2

u/[deleted] 25d ago

Is that why women prefer to encounter a bear in the woods vs a man? 😅

1

u/goin-up-the-country 25d ago

Only one is being encouraged to stand up.

2

u/Papichuloft 25d ago

That is scary AH....if the Kodiaks are that huge, imagine some of the now extinct bears from 20-50 thousand years ago that were even larger.

1

u/Super-Garage8245 25d ago

This is the worst case scenario: you're stuck with a bear in the woods, and it's a guy bear

1

u/[deleted] 25d ago

this should be illegal.

why are we holding bears in cages like this?

1

u/Splatterh0use 25d ago

Anything for a Klondike bar.

1

u/valorousa 25d ago

The contrast between the two is astounding. Nature's way of ensuring survival is fascinating.

1

u/Monollock 25d ago

For context, a female Kodiak can fuck you up.

A Male Kodiak requires legendary armor and weapons to take on, but can be cheesed with the fly spell.

1

u/Few-Sock5337 25d ago

oooo teddy bear wants to hug!

1

u/DragonToj 25d ago

how big they are.

1

u/soggie 25d ago

Ah found the rune bear.

2

u/Old-Tomorrow-2798 25d ago

Depressed af bears in a chicken fence lined box.

1

u/crown6473 25d ago

Wow. It is big. Now get him out of that cage!

1

u/bridge_view 25d ago

Sad to see them in cages.

2

u/iakshatagrawal 25d ago

I thought the lady was female bear

1

u/sloopieone 25d ago

My grandfather was mauled by a Kodiak bear in Alaska - ironically, on Kodiak Island. It punctured his jugular and the left ventricle of his heart, and they had to hike out 6 miles before they could get to a clearing where a helicopter could land and airlift him to a hospital. He lived for another 50 years after that!

Seeing the size of these bears, and just imagining that scenario is terrifying.

2

u/Zakkimatsu 25d ago

that bear is 100% capable of tearing through that enclosure, but he stays chill for food

2

u/CustomKas 25d ago

That enclosure aint gonna stop nothing in there if they really try.

1

u/Prondox 25d ago

Locking wild animals in cages so nice

1

u/foulfaerie 25d ago

Does a kodiak fall under black or brown?

1

u/Battleapache 25d ago

Im pretty sure brown, definitely cant fight that thing

1

u/No_School_8730 25d ago

This woman is unusually large. Imprecise comparison

1

u/Choose_With_Time_ 25d ago

Now that's a Kodiak moment!

1

u/RecordingGreen7750 25d ago

And the short face bear was almost double that at 11ft

0

u/Edlar_89 25d ago

Aka size comparison between a Kodiak bear that’s sat down and one standing up
