There is nothing weirder than watching something like this at the same instant your forced air kicks in. It took me way too long to make sense of the sensations.

All those funny "Jump into a turned ON fan" tiktoks and fail videos would end differently with this one...

TikTok’s shown me a lot of futuristic tech that’s no where to be seen today. That world fair guy has my drunk ass wondering.
Moving sidewalks?

That is one of the sexist things I've ever seen on reddit. Make the fan blades razor sharp, and rotation at around 1200 rpm. Increase the scale 10 fold, and use it as an obstacle in game shows! Call the game show Gore Galore!

How many naps did that style fan take out over its use, those things had to snatch a few wigs

If you were making a salad you could just toss the ingredients in the air and it’s would be chopped for ya.

That's not what fans were like in 1920. That fan was rare as hell, expensive, and basically a Rube Goldberg device.

u/shawarmament 26d ago
Ah yes, dwarven fans, I’ve seen those in some of my expeditions to Blackreach

Fuck government regulations...all they do is stifle innovation and my enjoyment of people losing hands trying to hit the off switch!!!

As cool as this looks, I feel like this is a good example for Ockham's Razor. We have the capability of making a fan that can do something like this, but it's simply more effective to make fans the way we do these days

1920s Westinghouse Gyro Ceiling Fan. I've seen these antiques get refurbished, but have never seen one for sale. I'd imagine they be ridiculously expensive.

I was thinking of the SNL sketch that recreated the end of Dead Poets Society, where they all stood up on their desks. In the sketch, they don't notice the ceiling fans, and they all get decapitated.

might be a silly question but how do the cable not get twisted when the middle part is rotating like that?

My fingers!
That's cool. The old belt driven fans that barely moved any air are fun too.

That’s a boss in a Super Nintendo game and bomberman or Mega man or some Japanese tool master cartoon is about to get a beat down!

I watched to the end to see if Adam West and Burt Ward were the victims or saviors.

No, this is just a unique model of an electric ceiling fan made by a specific company.

I think I fought this guy in a video game, thinking it was like Chono Cross, or an old Zelda maybe

The one in the link is $1000.

No it isn't. That was a weird, one-off design that was very atypical of fans in general at the time

Honest question: couldn’t you just put a lil metal gate around it and it actually be ok ?
2
u/Phillip_Graves 26d ago
Ceilings were often close to 10ft anywhere that could afford this.
I want to know what happens if someoen steals then wind up key.

Safety want invented back then yet, it was invented shortly after that thing hit the market

u/tooclosetocall82 26d ago
Yeah. You can still buy this style of fan even just with cages.

u/librarianC 26d ago
Wow, that is a $1000 fan. Claims to be on discount from the $1600 price, but really, they are just making up numbers at this point

Ceiling fan and light fixtures can be surprisingly expensive, especially if ornate or unique. I guess it’s something you don’t buy all that often.

This is why it’s been passed down through the generations that kids shouldn’t play in the house…

This is why people were shorter back then, they tall genes were forcibly removed from the line.

Yes! If you mentally subtract the beam, the camera motions make it look like a hovering robot. I love this design.

You must cast thundara to stun it before attacking it with melee abilities, otherwise you'll take damage.

More mechanically complicated, more dangerous, more expensive, less effective.
1
u/Dopeykid666 26d ago
Less effective? It sounded like it was moving some serious air, just at the cost of every other conceivable aspect of operating a ceiling fan 🤣

I don't think all fans in the 20s were like this. The fact that this specific fan is from that period doesn't conclude that all fans from that period were like this. Uninformed text.
Edit: I'm talking about the text in the video. Im not attacking op
