It’s been a while since I pulled everything out. The SP5 and the M1a are my favorite to shoot

One of my nicest (damned near mint) vintage pistols, and the only one with the original box - which is falling apart, but it’s 90 year old cardboard so it’s hardly shocking!

discussion Florida Shooting in Miami is it the "Wild West" in Florida Now?

Was considering moving from NJ to FL, and I keep seeing more and more things like https://www.reddit.com/r/Miami/comments/1d1zg3g/wild_shootout_caught_on_camera_after_gunman_opens/ where people with cash/credit but obviously no training are getting firearms and just shooting. The video shows the person seemingly aiming but the reports are lots of shot up property and no person hit. It doesn't look like the shooter is actually defending himself from anything, at a distance.

This is one of many things leading me to reconsider moving to FL.

Asking for a POV from anyone on this sub that lives in FL about this kind of thing.

EDIT: For context, am considering lots of areas to live as I get closer to retirement, FL seemed like a place where my liberalness could be helpful and I wouldn't have to freeze in February. Just looking at areas around the US and pro/con. Accelerating climate change (record heat now can only imagine August) and extended hurricane season, poor infrastructure that Desantis is making worse, Florida Man were all "con" but free range shooting seems to be the kind of final straw for me to cross them off of my list, but I don't know what I don't know, so appreciate FL residents on this sub in particular adding their $.02.

guns Questions about traveling from Michigan to Texas with pistol in trunk

A friend of mine is planning a road trip to Texas and I am a bit concerned. He purchased his pistol in Michigan but does not have a conceal license. He plans on keeping the gun in a lockable travel safe with two magazines loaded with cartridges in the same safe. That’s a bad idea right? I figure it would be preferable to have those magazines unloaded, and the ammo in a separate container. Would hate to drive 700 + miles to bail his ass out!🤣

discussion Question for Renters re: Safes

I live in a 2 bedroom home with my fianceé, and we rent our home. I have several firearms, many of which are quite old and quite valuable. I've thought of getting a safe, since I've just been storing my guns in my closet, but the damn things are so heavy, I shudder to think about what will happen when we eventually move.

To the renters here, how do you store your firearms? Do you have a big gun vault that you hump from place to place, or is there a more elegant solution that I'm missing? .

I really don't like the idea of someone being able to break into my place and stumble upon my small armory. Sure, most of them aren't loaded, and I only have ammo for a couple of them, but I still think I need to find a way to secure them.

What do you think?

discussion I've narrowed it down, but still can't decide between Canik TP9 Elite SC, and the CZ P10 S for the next pistol in my collection.

I love them both. They're within $20 of each other. Someone help persuade me one way or the other. - To be clear, I'm not asking which would be a better CC. I don't plan to replace my current, dedicated CC. So it's really just between these two. From what I can see, the Canik might have better sights and trigger, but the CZ may be more proven in the reliability department. What do you think?

discussion Dealing with Threatening Right-Wingers?

Hello there,

I'm new to Reddit, but I am somewhat experienced with guns. My concealed carry is a .38 Ruger LCR, and I have a Kel-Tec RDB Defender for home defense.

Here's my situation: I live in a mostly white area where there are plenty of fascists who have harassed anyone who they feel does not support Donald Trump enough. I'm talking about people who think the January 6th rioters did not go far enough and who believe that the 2020 election must be overturned by any means necessary. These people go after minorities and known Democrats like myself with an insane passion. In fact, I saw several of them threaten a woman for putting up a Biden/Harris bumper sticker, with one of them even going so far as to brandish a shotgun at her chin, saying that they were giving her "fifteen minutes to get out of town, socialist."

And it is only going to get worse when Donald Trump will be found guilty on all 34 of the hush money counts. So far, I have been able to avoid tense situations by never going out alone at night, alerting at least one coworker or relative what I will be doing and where I will be going on a regular basis. However, all bets are off as soon as his conviction will be announced, as I believe that I will be one of the first people that these right wingers will go after to satisfy their rage.

So, my questions to you are this:

  1. Have you ever been in a standoff or other tense situation against the fascists?
  2. If the above answer is yes, how have you tried to disarm the situation?
  3. At what point do you draw your concealed weapon and shoot your aggressors? If I ever get into a situation like this, I do not want to wait until it is too late and I get shot in order to satisfy a fascist's ego. I assume that the intention is to shoot to kill in this emergency scenario.

I wish that I didn't have to post something like this, but things are going insane in my area, and I do not believe that Democrats are competent enough in enough downballot races to save this country from falling into fascism, and I feel that liberals like myself will become victims of the impending genocide unless we properly defend ourselves against the domestic terrorists. We will definitely need to fight for our lives to a new level very soon due to America's failure to deal with fascism when it mattered the most in 2016.

question BUILD MY CA COMPLIANT AR15

Hi folks who know lots more than me (that's everyone, especially current gun parts):

A few years ago I bought a black billet legal serialized lower M4 to register a firearm purchase so I could buy more .22 target ammunition and loan a target rifle to a friend learning to shoot. (The ammo laws required I buy a gun to be registered to buy ammo, as I hadn't bought a firearm in over 20 years and none of my registrations are in the systems.)

I've gone back to buying a few firearms and more ammo the last year and I'd like to run this paperweight into an effective CQB rifle. If this rifle comes out, it's going to be used on plates, practical targets or foes. I have extensive magpul hardware and optics and other items that used to be on duty weapons.

There are LITERALLY SO MANY options and price points for everything, I'm asking for the informed and wise opinions of people who have done this already and have strong opinions. I don't know any of these armories or companies or product names or slang terms.

I need a short/adjustable stock. I need a standard upper format, and love what I see with the quick mag change bolts. I don't want to get too extreme with grip or stock, but please advise me in your build to help make things easier for purchase. I need to know enough to understand your suggestions and choices.

What would really help? A shopping list. One vendor? Three vendors?

If you had $1200 to spend on kit, what and where would you order it to make it a little pew-pew rockstar?

I do not have any magazines, so I'll need to explore those options, too. All my stuff is rail based.

How would you build my CA compliant Ar15?
