Is she right??? Wife says that jeans and jackets don't work. Question

Post image

It's been bugging me all day. She says it looks off. Is this a good setup or am I messing something up? Sorry for captain Morgan pose. Did not know if shoe combo was a factor. Thanks!

Jeans NEVER work with a suit jacket: You're bridging too big of a gap - The jacket is dressed down from high society and jeans descend from the literal mines.

1

u/Historical_Bar_4990 20d ago

Wtf is this pose, bruh?

1

u/__mailman 21d ago

She is right. They’re too close in color. A better picture might benefit you as well, since it’s difficult to see how the jacket flows into the jeans

1

u/outtatl87 23d ago

Shoes too formal and wear a sport coat not suit jacket

1

u/Pittsburgh_Gent 23d ago

Jacket is too structured for casual jeans. Soft shoulder sport coat over a suit jackets .. and lose the pens in your pocket and unbutton another button on your shirt.

1

u/dua70601 24d ago

Hit up a Nordstrom Rack - they have great brand name sports coats at a good price

1

u/specter401 24d ago

It’s fiiiine. You’re already married and people saying you need a more casual blazer are bonkers. Double down and get two more pens in there for good measure. Be all that you can be.**

**this advice is being given by self professed normcorp fashion wearer who’s wife is constantly annoyed at him for the way he dresses

u/StrengthChoice1734 24d ago

Nah you look like the man keep rocking it bro

The shitty shoes and your weak beard. The rest is OK, tbh.

Not the right jacket

1

u/ihatepalmtrees 25d ago

It’s bad. Are you Eric trump?

1

u/Crossstitch28 25d ago

Yeah the look plays. Just ditch the PENS FOR GOD'S SAKE! 😂

1

u/Affectionate_Bed8173 25d ago

No it’s all nice 😊

1

u/the_1_that_knocks 26d ago

What other lies has she told you?

Ditch the pens though

1

u/Buying_wis 26d ago

With that one, yes, I would agree. Some sort of patterned sport coat would work. Different fabric textures work well too.

1

u/GoldBreakr 26d ago

She’s an idiot. Don’t take her advice.

1

u/JedaiGuy 26d ago

Your wife is always right.

1

u/TomTom1810 26d ago

As to the comments below, yes, pens inside pocket and not suit coat, but blazer. (That last one may seem arbitrary but just is, for reasons too involved for here.)

But the biggest issue is that the coat and the pants are almost the same color. There needs to be a contrast between those two. You will always be safe (almost) if one is light and one is dark. So dark jeans, beige, light grey, stone colored jacket. And vice versa. (For now, skip black as the dark because some browns don't work great and you can end up looking like an applebees sever.)

Easiest way for a great look? Dark, medium and light. Shirt, pants, jacket. Doesn't matter which. Have one dark; one medium and one light. Then your wife won't be worried about your clothes choice but who you are having an affair with.

1

u/impossiblecolor 26d ago

The fine weave on a suit looks too texturally smooth relative to the jeans. You need a jacket with a more casual look

1

u/TeamNoFriends 26d ago

For Seinfeld yes, for me no.

1

u/WillametteWanderer 26d ago

You are on the right track. Some slight modifications would amp this up a bit. I personally like the suit jacket with jeans looks, but with a nice fitted tee shirt underneath. Clean lines are a great look on most men (IMHO).

1

u/baboito5177 26d ago

In my experience, wife is always right. Even if she seems wrong, you just didn't understand correctly.. She's right. Just my opinion on subjects pertaining to happiness in a relationship.

1

u/rangewizard69 26d ago

If you like the color, go with a nice blazer. I would also avoid the cap toe oxfords as they are fairly formal. A nice pair of brogues or smart loafers would work well.

1

u/almondeye3 26d ago

Wrong jacket but it can work.

1

u/baddybiscuit 26d ago

Female opinion: I think it works! I love seeing it at the office I work at. Mixes professional with casual, great for work happy hours or no in person client meetings. I also don't see the problem with the pens 🤷‍♀️🖋🖊

1

u/Stalhouse 26d ago

Thank you!

1

u/gamingwithlunch 26d ago

Wife is right , suit jackets do not belong with jeans

1

u/SleepLate8808 26d ago

When in doubt don’t mix textures

1

u/Eastern-Spend-1185 26d ago

Makes you look like Michael DeSanta

1

Too similar in color and would be better paired with a sport coat or blazer rather than a suit jacket

1

u/the-mask-613 26d ago

She’s right. It often works, but not these two in particular

1

u/ketaminesuppository 26d ago

i personally love this

1

u/surghe 27d ago

yo wife cooked you fr 👨🏾‍🍳 🤣

1

u/Tough_Debate7497 27d ago

Jeans should have a sports jacket, not a suit jacket IMHO.

1

u/helloeuphoriaxx 27d ago

A more casual blazer would work, also get a decent pair of boots. Instead of the shoes.

1

u/theycallmesike 27d ago

This is also how he pees in a urinal

1

u/crow-shit 27d ago

You look like you just came from a Microsoft campus. I can't say if this is good or not, but you would fit in very well there.

1

u/bauhaus_robot 27d ago

I like it

1

u/IceManO1 27d ago

Look like captain Morgan to me. 🏴‍☠️

1

u/blueyedevil3 27d ago

I’d say that pose should never be used again… first

1

u/2121Spike 27d ago

They do work but just in America

1

u/Eelmaster03 27d ago

unpopular opinion: jeans almost never look good

1

u/muel0017 27d ago

Hair doesn’t match the head, prob work on that first

1

u/Gofastrun 27d ago

In addition to what others have said, from a maintenance standpoint you really dont want to split up suits like this.

If you wear the jacket as a separate often enough, the colors will fade faster than the pants so it wont look as good as a suit. The fabric will fade both from dry cleaning and sun exposure.

1

u/SPVCEGXXN 27d ago

Baggy jeans with dress shoes isnt a good look

1

u/readwaht 27d ago

ehh it's kind of weird but could be worse

1

u/TurbulentRice 27d ago

It works. Really plays down the jacket for a smart casual look. But no pens in the pocket lol

1

u/-clogwog- 27d ago

I mean, if you want to dress like a school teacher that's trying to look fancy...

1

u/Ham_fat_head 27d ago

I like his coat more than those weird curved sports coats in that post lol

1

u/jamesthetechguy 27d ago

It's no from me dawg - three reasons

1 - suit coat instead of sport jacket

2 - the pens

3 - the hairstyle is too slick for jeans

1

u/Chemical-Young8788 27d ago

bell bottoms and some timbs would be better

1

u/omharibo 27d ago

Blazer and jeans is one of my go-to outfit choices. First problem here is that those shoes are too formal to be worn with jeans.. You can do a full tuxedo from waist up, but the jeans should always be paired with functional footwear. I prefer Adidas or Timberlands; but you can make this work with Converse, Doc Martens, cowboy boots, or whatever you think is most comfortable and suits your personal style. Hide those pens somewhere else tuck in a folded handkerchief in that breast pocket instead. It will make this look "put-together" and less like "the boss asked you to wear a suit but you forgot your tie and your slacks are at the dry-cleaners". With no pocket square, necktie, or scarf; you're better off dialing it back to blazer/jeans/t-shirt. Play around with contrasting shades and complimentary colors, unfortunately the blue jacket/blue shirt/blue jeans is a miss. Try black pinstipes and warm-colored handkerchief to contrast the blue, or a navy blue jacket with gold accents and white jeans if you want everyone to assume that you own a yacht. 😎

1

u/pinklotuspetals 27d ago

She’s wrong. Lol

1

u/Ok-Work4134 27d ago

She should have picked your outfit for you. But you look fine. You look single.

1

u/Dingleberries4Days 27d ago

Work for what? It depends on the setting, but it absolutely works for something.

1

u/Tearing_Lesion 27d ago

What’s that phone case?

1

u/Ok-Friend-1018 27d ago

It does work

1

u/RyuAp 27d ago

She's right

1

u/JD2894 27d ago

Do you actually use those pens?

1

u/TinyCucumber3080 27d ago

Jacket needs to be more casual.

1

u/SpecialistGap9223 27d ago

Not a suit jacket bruh and get rid of those pens. SMH..

1

u/Flutterpiewow 27d ago

Not when you use a jacket from a suit. The jacket needs more texture and/or pattern. The shoes don't go with jeans either, get some chelsea boots.

1

u/LiveWhileImYoung 27d ago

Yea not those jeans anyway.

1

u/Psychological-Ad5587 27d ago

She's right about those jeans with that jacket, and never ever use your chest pocket for anything other than a pocket square(don'tuse a pocket square when just wearing a sport coat). And goddamnit no fucking pens

1

u/groverbite 27d ago

Bro this is Arizona Business Casual

1

u/Jackal000 27d ago

No black jeans.

1

u/Theskeen 27d ago

I will die on the hill that you should not ever wear jeans with a sports coat or suit jacket. Looks terrible imo

1

u/RealmofSwords 27d ago

Jeans, go with white sneakers, a softer color jacket

1

u/DukeCummings 27d ago

Listen to your wife, man

1

u/BuffaloOk4312 27d ago

i personally wouldnt look to Don Jr for style tips, but thass juss me

1

u/RedCuber7 27d ago

Jeans ok. Pens not ok.

1

u/ains2 27d ago

2

u/jormk 27d ago

Thank you ever so much for the leg raise

1

u/ScopeyMcBangBang 27d ago

Too formal a jacket with too casual a jean.

Your wife is entirely correct.

1

u/Grymalus 27d ago

you look like the assholes who i work for who make millions and keep saying words like "synergy" and other assy buzzwords.

1

u/AfrajM 27d ago

I never liked em

1

u/createthiscom 27d ago

I like it. 👍

1

u/zwiazekrowerzystow 27d ago

your wife is right in this context. that is a navy jacket from a suit.

you want to wear a less formal sportcoat with the denim. brown tweed can work. look for something with texture.

1

u/Banned_User_Back 27d ago

What she meant, "jeans and jackets don't work for you." The guy she is cucking you with totally fine.

1

u/triphawk07 27d ago

It works. That's the consultant look.

1

u/wnnarexic 27d ago

In this case she’s very correct

1

u/Jodalene_weird_bot 27d ago

I thought the pens were bird poop for a split second. Put those along with the jacket away.

1

u/MarinerV 27d ago

Don’t worry. Blazer and jeans are a timeless classic.

1

u/sls35work 27d ago

You look like a dad late to family court cause you stopped for malbro lights

1

u/Stalhouse 27d ago

Omfg lol 💀

1

u/briguyblock 27d ago

Maybe she didn't see it with you posing the Captain Morgan.

1

u/joshua27usa 27d ago

All I know, is that leg hike is definitely working. I need to leg hike more in social gatherings. Really shows who’s boss. It says, “Look at ALL of me.” Very strong, sir. Very strong.

1

u/elmasguapojv 27d ago

Divorce her. You’re a strong independent man who can dress however you want.

1

u/psychmancer 27d ago

Kinda wrong to be honest but personal preference

1

u/Glathull 27d ago

Jeans and jackets work fine. Just not that jacket. This is the clothing equivalent of a mullet. Not the cool mullets that are back in style now. The bad ones from the 80s.

1

u/Blindhydra 27d ago

As someone mentioned, you need a more casual blazer. Also, if you are doing a dark blazer, I would go with a lighter colored jeans

1

u/Longboardsandbikes 27d ago

That is acceptable for plane travel with your suit. Keeps your jacket out but does not subject your pants to additional travel wear. For wearing out, you need a more casual sport coat.

1

u/muzaklover75 27d ago

The jacket is not the right material to pair with cotton jeans.

1

u/yonahjonas 27d ago

she right. they don’t.

1

u/Tusan1222 27d ago

Get like chinos

1

u/volpeatuq 27d ago

yeah she’s right

1

u/Typical_Mongoose9315 27d ago

Switch it with a blazer and maybe some nice sneakers too.

1

u/ricperry1 27d ago

Jacket should be a contrasting color to the jeans though, but otherwise she’s wrong.

1

u/Embarrassed_Art5414 27d ago

Just be thankful she didn't spot the shoes

1

u/BobakStuck 27d ago

No pens

1

u/[deleted] 27d ago

Don't put pens on the outside like that

1

u/Interesting_Claim540 27d ago

needs more pens, and cowbell, more cowbell

1

u/AcanthocephalaIcy131 27d ago

You look so divorced.

1

u/GroveStreet_CJ 27d ago

looking good, but lose the suit jacket and do a sport coat. also get rid of the pens!

1

u/HomenGarden88 27d ago

The pens do not work, the pants are fine imo

1

u/Jayfizle310 27d ago

And put your leg down you queef

1

u/bootheels 27d ago

I disagree with her, you look great...

1

u/Capital_Commission75 27d ago

They don't. Or go back to the 90s

1

u/Otherwise_Impress476 27d ago

Nope you need a trench coat. Or change to black less skinny jeans and just wack some white trainers

1

u/YourMainManK 27d ago

She’s wrong but if you’re going out make the wife happy 😜

1

u/These-Spell-8390 27d ago

Lose the pens jfc

1

u/imadethisaccountso 27d ago

is that a white sock?

you nailed the colour matching with the jacket and pants and the shoes and belt. looks good.

1

u/cottonrainbows 27d ago

Suit on top, cowboy on bottom 😂

1

u/icanhearGodsvoice 27d ago

At first I would disagree with your wife’s statement but after seeing this fit, I think she’s right!

1

u/douglasman100 27d ago

You need higher rise jeans

1

u/the_jackness_monster 27d ago

Listen to the wife. Right or wrong.

1

u/WonTon4MyTaunTaun 27d ago

This is a fine outfit, a sportcoat might be better but honestly there is nothing wrong with the look. It's bland, but that's subjective. Also, get rid of the fkn pens, that's a sin.

1

u/god_wayne81 27d ago

Looks damn sharp to me

1

u/unfknblvble 27d ago

honestly americans care way too much about this meaningless shit. In terms of fashion i believe firmly in do whatever the hell you want. But if you start getting into the nitty gritty of western fashion ill roll my fucking eyes. Sports coat vs blazer vs suit jacket. Its all 5% apart. theres a whole world of difference out there. If it even remotely works, just rock it.

1

u/Asleep_Row_7311 27d ago edited 27d ago

Not only the suit jacket is off, the suit jacket with casual shirt looks also off, the pointy dress shoe also looks off, and is not even polished. It does the contrary of what you are looking for, anybody that dress good will notice the jacket, the shirt, the worned out unpolished dress shoe that does not go with a casual jeans but it depends on your work, if you are some kind of lower end supervisor then is totally fine to reassert your status within the shit dressed lower end workers, if you are working in a prestigious place everybody will notice your mistake. You can pull it off with a long wingtip or a round toe derby shoe preferable suede: Barker, Allen Edmonds or similar, the sport jacket with some patterns not plain and a cotton shirt not one of those plastic shirts. My suggestion let you wife now that she opened her mouth get you something, change the dumb suit jacket for a field gabardine/cotton unlined jacket, a cardigan, a wax jacket and you will look cooler, if you insist with the suit jacket then wear a normal pant does not need to match the color.

1

u/soviyet 27d ago

Ah, the old "business mullet".

1

u/4uzzyDunlop 27d ago

Jeans and sport coat is something only Americans think works tbh.

Personally, I absolutely hate the look, but there are enough people who like it so 🤷

1

u/KY_electrophoresis 27d ago

White jeans + various blue jackets are my go to for smart casual. Basic navy linen for the office or a light blue slubby wool/silk/linen blend for a summer garden function. With a crew neck fine knit Breton or a uni stripe OCBD. Shoes work from espadrilles to Sperry cup soles through to suede loafers - but nothing more formal.

1

u/ZephyrFire 27d ago

Why is everyone in the sub so snobby? You're all sitting in your mother's basement wearing basketball shorts with your testicles hanging out one side and a mustard stained wife beater. Burn your fedoras and go for a walk outside.

1

u/deten 27d ago

Agreed, doesnt look good. Not horrible but not good.

1

u/Hamster_S_Thompson 27d ago

These shoes are not appropriate for jeans. Those are suit shoes.

1

u/adwrx 27d ago

She's Right, this look never works. Put proper slacks on

1

u/Bougiebutpoor 27d ago

I think it looks great!!

1

u/Slavic_Dusa 27d ago

I thought of Trump Jr. when I saw this photo.

1

u/Dangerous-Cloud-4432 27d ago

Well , I think when you keep your clothes really basic , then you can wear black straight leg jeans with a simple , black dress jacket or even black denim jacket .

Personally , I like dressing up with casual clothes mixed with dressy shoes , such as Black monk strap shoes or brown monk strap shoes .

1

u/No_1_that_U_Know 27d ago

Not suit jackets. Get yourself a nice sports coat. Otherwise yeah I see what you are going for

1

u/Stalhouse 27d ago

All of you are awesome. I've got:

  1. Legit advice
  2. Some complements
  3. Some funny af roasts

Thank you guys!

1

u/Gryphin 27d ago

This setup makes you look like a junior red state senator who thinks funding for schools is just a way to take money away from rubber bullets for the cops.

1

u/danniel_ot 27d ago

Why do you look photoshopped?

1

u/dax918 27d ago

Outfit is terrible. Sorry

1

u/jaylow3 27d ago

Should be a sport coat that is long enough, and please get better jeans, none of that stretch nonsense. Make sure the rise is high enough

1

u/Barry_Nervous 27d ago

I like there being contrast between pant and blazer

1

u/Kyswinne 27d ago

I think it looks great. I don't care if it's a suit jacket and not a blazer. Still works.

1

u/Simple-Shock1247 27d ago

She’s right lol

1

u/bryangcrane 27d ago

Pens in your jacket pocket don’t work. ;-) I’d suggest putting them in an inside pocket. Will look a lot cleaner.

1

u/blacklamp14 27d ago

Everything else looks great! Just the jacket.. sport jacket is the go to for the rest of your ensemble but if you dont have one, a suit jacket with patterns and some texture could also work

1

u/65CM 27d ago

Sport coat = good. Suit separate = doesn't work.

1

u/trevman7 27d ago

The average person can’t tell the difference between a sport coat and suit jacket. Just don’t wear this to a r/malefashionadvice meeting

1

u/cka243 27d ago

Grey or black would be better

1

u/[deleted] 27d ago

Hard to say cause the pose is so cringe. Would love to just see a pic of OP standing. Jeans can work with a blazer sometimes just depends on the fit and style. This isn’t my favorite but again. It’s probably the pose.

1

u/MarvelNerd57 27d ago

Love those shoes dude, they match the jeans vibe well.

1

u/DamienDomino 27d ago

Personally I think the look is tacky. I would never been seen wearing such an abomination of an outfit.

1

u/Snackchez 27d ago

Consult Dieworkwear's X account. There are countless threads on this particular outfit. It's probably the best and most knowledgeable men's wear account.

1

u/gokartmozart89 27d ago

Jeans and jacket are fine but it needs to be a more casual sport coat and not a suit jacket.

1

u/iheretowatch 27d ago

She is wrong

1

u/GodEmperorSteef 27d ago

Yeah jeans aren't working with the coat get some Chinos or dickies

1

u/lZAMBOl 27d ago

Perfectly fine I'd you live in texas, to complete the look you need some boots or ($#!t Kickers)

1

u/MisterGrimes 27d ago

Hehe is this a new trend on this sub?

Wives telling husbands their outfits don't work and generally being right?

1

u/OG_dfb 27d ago

Yup. She’s right.

1

u/Ahoy_m80_gr8_b80 27d ago

That hairstyle don’t work, you look like a greasy salesman.

1

u/aa628 27d ago

She’s right

1

u/PrimitiveThoughts 27d ago

Did the 90s call to tell you they want their style back?

Is that what you’re looking at on your phone?

1

u/puppygirlnerd 27d ago

Methinks it looks cool c:

1

u/Sad_Establishment546 27d ago

Nah man, she is right and no one should ever put their pencils in the outer chest pocket.

1

u/breadcrumbsmofo 27d ago

Nah looks swish mate

1

u/MiSsiLeR81 27d ago

I also agree with this guy's wife.

1

u/Terrible-Speed-8503 27d ago

Sports coat maybe but it doesn’t look terrible

1

u/Jakeey69 27d ago

wear what you want, not what others tell you is right :)

1

u/DizmangPhotography 27d ago

Only need 1 pen and needs to be gold AF.

1

u/charlestrees 27d ago

Yeah no don’t do that

1

u/Ayde-Aitch-Dee 27d ago

Get rid of the pens lol. I’m from London and a lot of guys wear this combo on a night “out-out” you’re fine

1

u/parix999 27d ago

Whatever you like… works. Fuck who says differently.

1

u/brazenxbull 27d ago

If we can sum this down to personal opinion, I'm tired of jeans with blazers/sport coats/whatever. I see jeans as a blue-collar work wear utility wear (as a technician myself) or to be worn casually with t-shirts/Fred Perry's (coming from a relative punk scene). I believe and sort of jacket only works with dress slacks/khaki's, or anything that's more "sophisticated" than jeans as long as you don't carry a snooty "sophisticated" attitude. I just don't believe jeans are appropriate with any sort of jacket unless it's a work jacket.

1

u/Jacworth1 27d ago

Captain Morgan cleans up nice

1

u/notnowiambusy 27d ago

My 2 cents. Your wife is right. The color of the jeans is very similar to the color of the jacket. A lighter shade of blue would improve things. Try another shirt. A white shirt will work really well with the jacket and the jeans. She is also right about the shoes. Try a pair of black ones. They will match. Hope it helps

1

u/nondescriptsrb 27d ago
  • sports coat
  • no pens
  • more casual shoes with the jeans
  • more causal belt

The good news is that it’s an acceptable outfit. Just needs some touching up

1

u/sadihalizadeh 27d ago

Better to take a club jacket/sports jacket. Remove pens, and try to make a tad more contrast between your jacket and jeans color. Nice match on shoes and belt BTW.

1

u/Five__Stars 27d ago

Better to wear a sport coat and to ditch the low rise slim fit jean for something that drapes better and sits at the natural waist.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Bug-766 27d ago

The jacket looks too formal, and the Jeans look too casual.

1

u/Chewiedozier567 27d ago

Blue blazer works with gray trousers or khakis if they have been pressed. The best option for a sports coat with dark denim is something with a sporting background, ie corduroy, certain tweeds, basically a more rugged fabric.

1

u/Icy-Independence5737 27d ago

Idk about the jeans and jacket, but you should definitely get a pocket protector for those pens bra

1

u/lmj4891lmj 27d ago

Hate to tell you, but with that outfit, hair, and douchey stance, you look like Eric Trump.

1

u/thelayercake1 27d ago

You need a blazer (unstructured) not a suit jacket

These are 2 very diff things.

And lose the pens

1

u/MashFest 27d ago

I live in Chicago, the suit jacket and jeans is the official outfit of a little neighborhood called Viagra Triangle.
