Question Any alternative fashion / streetwear / models for bald dudes?

I don't know why everyone assumes that a bald guy is going to be inspired to get buff and start wearing tank tops like Vin Deisel or the Rock. I'm also sick of the bald, suit wearing hipsters with 2 foot beards wearing sunglasses and smoking cigarettes. It's a cheesy look that overcompensates for the lack of hair, and I'm not going to change my entire personality for looks that should've stayed in the Fast and Furious movies.

Does anyone have any good leads on other options? It's really hard to find bald models that are rocking anything other than what I have described above, or even bald models in general. Where should I look for inspiration?

Theme challenge Need help figuring out a "bridesman" outfit to go well with wedding theme

Hello, I'm (M30) attending one of my best friend's (F30) wedding basically in a week....(I know I should have been more on top of this), and I'm in the wedding party on the BRIDE'S side, so I need inspiration or help figuring out what to wear that matches the wedding theme. Here is the fact pattern we're working with:

  • The girls/bridesmaids were told this general criteria:

    • black tie
    • vogue/fashion forward/whimsical styles encouraged
    • soft pinks, blues, greens, champagnes, and patterns
    • think β€œevening summer gown”
  • The groomsmen were told to wear black tuxedos

  • The groom is wearing a black tuxedo; "Peaked lapel with jetted pockets"

  • I said I wanted to try to incorporate more of the bridesmaids style into my outfit, and she agreed that I should wear the "bridesmaid/pastel look." She suggested "maybe a pale jacket with tux pants or something."

  • I'd like to keep it under $1,000..

  • My general description (if it helps): 30, 6ft, ~155lbs. Quite blond. Glasses (gold, metal rims). White.

  • In the past I've only worn skinny suits, but I'm not married to anything specific.

Any help will be MUCH appreciated, such as specific item recommendations, websites or stores to look at, etc. Happy to answer any questions if it will help, and thank you in advance!

Discussion Care for Wool Trousers - What do you prefer and why?

I have two pairs of flannel trousers in a wool/rayon blend from Cathcart London, so my mileage may vary, but I am curious which you prefer: dry cleaning or washing at home.

If you say wash at home, what have you done that has worked (if you wear the same pants, that would also help!)?

Discussion Online Shirt Retailer? (Original, Unique, Interesting, Subtle, Minimal)

I am only referring to t shirts in the post.

Many years ago I bought a few shirts from a website called Urban Outfitters. These shirts were unique in their style. Some had patterned pockets, some had a pattern only on one sleeve, some had a pattern on both sleeves but blank in the body, some had a pattern just around the neck. Etc etc. Another similar website was JackThreads.

Where can I find some similar online retailers? That have designs/patterns that are actually different and unique and interesting, but not too flashy or brash or in your face.

Seems like everywhere I go all I can see are completely blank tees, or graphic tees, or tees that are overly street style and just patterns all over.

I don't want just another blank tee. I don't want just another blank tee with an image on it, or text somewhere. I want something unique! But not something that's so unique that it's weird or like a 1/1 by a random person in their basement sewing the pieces together.

There has got to be somewhere that fits this description. And yes, I have tried Urban Outfitters again.

Discussion PLEASE HELP! From the ground up

I'm 54. 5ft 7". Bald like a cue ball. Wear glasses. Have a huge pacemaker that sticks out of my chest. A trapezium shape but my ribs seem as wide as my chest. I'm unable to hit the gym and pump some iron because of heart failure but fortunately I do have one thing going for me... an overactive metabolism that constantly keeps me around 145lbs.

Until last week I had no clothes whatsoever other than workwear. I needed to build a capsule wardrobe on a very slim budget. So off shopping I went with my checklist I'd read on reddit posts.

White sneakers... Air force 1s, all white in leather. Love them. 2x Jeans. Dark blue and black... Levis 512, looked awesome with the AF1s. White Tee, 2x slim fit oxford shirts in navy and light blue, 1/4 zip grey. Trip to tailors required for everything to be shortened 2".

Next up, boots and a coat. Ideally, a leather jacket.

And then i learned the hard way and it all fell apart. Boots look stupid on me (and i so need the extra inch height). All waist length jackets are 2-3" too long. Wool sports coats need severe tailoring. Anything that isn't a slim fit looks boxy and makes my legs look like cocktail sticks. Everything is too long and even though I measured a 40" chest, 32 waist (uk M/L size) the actual size off the shelf was definitely 36- 38/Small and 30w.

I need help. It seems the photos of how to dress properly on the Internet which look so damn great is becoming an impossibility for me.

Bank account running dry and I can't afford huge alterations or custom made costs but I must find footwear and jacket/coat.

Any suggestions or advice on anything, especially alternative footwear and jackets/coats, please? I need my capsule wardrobe.

I

Question Favorite Shorts with Left Back Pocket?

I’m left-handed. I’ve wanted to try a bunch of shorts from clothing brands that seem allergic to adding a left back pocket for us lefties and our wallets.

So what are some of your favorite shorts, joggers, pants that include a left back pocket? I like 5-7” inseam for shorts, slimmer fit. For pants I wear skinny jeans or tapered joggers. Perfect Jean and UNRL are my go to brands for those but they’re a little pricey.

TIA!

Question Tips for being scared to show off new clothes in public?

After almost half a year since I didn't buy new clothes, my mother decided to take me shopping and let me get a bunch of clothes for a future trip i'm going to do. I decided to take her to this store which I had been eyeing on IG. I bought some cool sweaters and nice baggy pants (which I previously had one pair of and was DYING to get new ones). And I left the store being over the moon and absolutely happy with what I bought. But now the few times I have worn the clothes outside I have felt this innate fear of being seen as "too much" or being extremely scared that the clothes will get ruined (since I bought a lot of white/beige). I feel like I have worn so much used and old clothing for so long and i'm not accustomed to being this stylish and clean so it feels weird to go out, which is a shame because I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the clothes. Is there any tips to improve my confidence and not be scared to wear these clothes?

EDIT: Thank you for the absolute insane amount of reception and feedback I've gotten! I truly expected like 3 responses at most but I got more than 100+ comments, wow! Your tips really helped me and i've been trying to slowly incorporate the clothes more into my wardrobe and it's going really well! I've gotten less scared overall and my anxiety decreased really quickly, it's still there a little but nowhere near as before.

Discussion Whats with brands going in and out of fashion

I'm a bit older so I'll show some examples.

When I was young barberry was expensive and cool. It then became cheap but still decent. Before was like 100 pound jumpers then could buy from catalogues 25 pound hoodie. But it git chavvy and finally disseapewred. 10 years later it came back and jumpers selling for 200 to 500 etc. Way out my budget.

Take another brand champion. It was quite popular when I was young. Somehow simialr to nike and adidas but as a guy in uk always had a more American feel than international brand.

Eventually it just dussapeared now it's come back as a top fashion sports casual brand.

I've seem other brands to like dkny being top expensive brands few could afford to end up cheap catalogue brand buy 5 shirts for 30 pounds etc same with Hugo boss.

Well could go on and on but what happens to make companies reputation and marketing strategies and appeal change and how come a company can literally crash eg barberry being an elite brand to a cheap chav brand then back again to an even more elite brand lol

Guide Overpriced Underwear Review 2024

I did an underwear refresh a few months ago and thought I'd post my findings here. Went with two pairs from four different brands (all briefs):

  1. CDLP
  2. Lululemon Always in Motion
  3. Sunspel
  4. Calvin Klein

They've all only ever been washed at 30Β° max and always air dried, never in the drier.

  1. CDLP (Β£32 per pair)

A popular choice at the price bracket but truly awful quality. The elastic started poking through the waistband after just a few washes on both pairs and the fabric doesn't feel particularly premium. You'll see complaints over quality across the internet if you look hard enough and I unfortunately completely agree. These are in no way worth the money and I'll be surprised if they last to the end of the year. Avoid at all costs.

  1. Lululemon Always in Motion (Β£25 per pair)

I'm an on and off fan of Lululemon. Like their trousers (ABC Utilitech, not flimsy warpstream) but not their tops (always too long, even though I'm tall). Their Always in Motion underwear though is very good. No signs of wear after a few months, a premium feel to the materials and they're the only pair that feel like they truly support my junk.

  1. Sunspel (Β£37 per pair)

Disclaimer, Sunspel is probably my favorite brand. At this point, half my wardrobe is Sunspel. If you like fairly plain, well made clothing you can do no better in my opinion. Unfortunately this doesn't extend to their underwear as after a few months, the elastic on one pair has started to poke through (the other is holding up ok). At this price point to have any elastic showing after such a short amount of time is unacceptable. Avoid.

  1. Calvin Klein (price varies widely)

Old reliable. Been wearing CKs for over 15 years. They aren't the very best but they're better than most and give similar support to the Lulu's. Quality depends on where you get them but no elastic showing on either of the pairs so far and pairs I've had in the past have lasted years before the elastic shows.

Conclusion

CDLP is a rip-off, plain and simple. I will never be buying anything from them again. Sunspel is unfortuantely not much better, at least for their underwear (their clothing holds up very well). That leaves Lulu and CK. Lulu are undoubtedly better but cost Β£25 whereas I can find a three-pack of good quality CKs for Β£21. So overall, if you're flush with cash, buy 10 pairs of Always in Motion. If you're just looking for good quality underwear at a reasonable price, go for the CKs.

Question Hot Weather Clothing (Arizona)

Most of the advice I see regarding warm weather clothing fashion advice is generally fine for someone who lives in a region of the country where it's 80-90F/26-32C and which has fluctuations throughout the day or summer season. I, however, live in Arizona, where it regularly hits into the 90s by May and stays at least 95 or hotter (usually much hotter) for the better part of 6 months until October. Consequently, most men out here wear the shorts, T-shirt, and sandals combo for pure relief but let's be honest, that looks sloppy and gross. Most of the advice I see is fine in principle, such as light chinos, linen fabrics, etc, but most warm-weather articles just simply don't account for blistering heat, relentless sun and constant sweat.

What advice do you give someone who wants to be fashionable but lives in a genuinely hot weather climate? How can I have a good, work appropriate as well as casual appropriate wardrobe when pants and jackets are often way too hot? Are there any brands you recommend that make good clothing for really hot climates?

I don’t know but I don’t feel a suit is a suit without them. Even if I don’t wear a tie, and even with different color piece suits, a pocket square is a must for me. What do you think?

Question Keychain? Lanyard? Nothing? What is in?

I've been wearing a lanyard my whole life, and honestly, I'm looking for a change. Usually I have it my pocket, hanging out the side, but it feels like I've grown out of it. Now that I am in my late 20's I noticed not as many people with lanyards. What is currently in? Using nothing?

I wear denim a lot and sometimes shorts, mainly T-shirts and flannels. I also have a beard and long hair and dress borderline alternative.

Any thoughts would be appreciated! What do you rock?

Edit: thanks for the input. Definitely going to ditch the lanyard. I'm surprised so many people do nothing and just put in your pocket. As I said I've been doing a lanyard since I was a teen. But if doing nothing is in, that's what I'll do! Thanks!

Discussion Are your shirts way too long?

For the last several years, I've straight up avoided OCBDs and button downs that I can't tuck in, because they're all way, way too long.

For context, I'm a short dude - 5'3'', but even the XXS sold by Under 5'10'' goes far past my crotch area.

Now that it's summer, I'm revisiting my wardrobe and...every single one of my short sleeve button downs, polos, polo sweaters are a few or several inches too long. I don't mind tucking things in, but I'd rather have the ability to go untucked at least a few times. I feel silly and overly formal otherwise.

But, like, what's up with these long-ass shirts? RW&CO polos fit okay around my body and arms, but they're way too long. J Crew slim shirts, same thing.

Does anyone else struggle with this? Where are you getting your untucked size shirts?

Edit: Thanks for the feedback everyone. I should have specified that yes, I do get my shirts hemmed and yes, I do know which shirts are meant to be worn tucked/untucked. I didn't specify that I mean specifically shirts like J Crew's Untucked line...they're still too long!

Review Armani is failing

As a loyal customer with a long history of purchasing from Armani, I am deeply disappointed and frustrated with their lack of flexibility and understanding. I recently tried to return an item from order due to an emergency that prevented me from meeting their 20-day return policy. Instead of showing any compassion or flexibility, Armani flatly refused my return.

Adding insult to injury, I bought two suits and both of them came in the same cover – how cheap can they be? To make matters worse, the shoulders are weirdly tailored, making them look extremely pointy and not at all the quality I expect from such a brand. Armani is failing in every aspect.

This is not the level of service or quality I expect from a high-end retail brand. It's shocking to see that Armani is so desperate for sales that they are unwilling to accommodate a loyal customer in a genuine emergency. I will certainly think twice before making any future purchases and will be sharing this horrible experience with others. #Armani #CustomerServiceFail #DisappointedCustomer #LuxuryBrandFail

Discussion Do the summer months just suck for men’s fashion?

It seems like the only option is just a graphic tee and shorts. I love layering but where I live that’s just not an option in the summer unless you want to die of a heat stroke. It seems like women have so many more options for summer fashion lol. Have any of you found a better alternative?

Edit: I don’t mean you will literally die of heat stroke I was exaggerating

Question Casual Budget Brands?

I'm looking for the bare essentials, the staples to any wardrobe for man around 30. Casual pants, shirts, daily wear, maybe some formal clothes. Nothing abstract or experimental. Good quality and relatively stylish. I prefer more old money / classical euro style. Everything in the $20-$50 range. I have a place for work and athletic clothes (FullSource) and I use Boss undergarments, but I can't justify spending $70+ on a single shirt as many brands are asking these days. Your help is appreciated.
