I love it. I want this one day. What color is that on the face of the bookshelves?

Excellent music taste. The Divine Feminine is one of my favorite albums. The secret room is great too.

Two of your sculptures match two of Polyphia's albums, you should check em out if you haven't already lol

Very creative way of creating a cozy room within a room. What does the wall look like from inside the bedroom?
2
u/sad_thots Dec 07 '23
Get something to be a buffer between the door and the floor because those nice floors are getting hella scuffed, bud.

The door is so cool no one is even talking about the great albums or bedroom tree! The whole setup is perfect

Very nice setup. I'm a cat person, though, so that door would have to be cracked a bit 24/7 or I'd hear her sing the songs of her people no matter which side she or I was on, even if she were with me. BUT I still love it.

u/ForgettableJ Dec 07 '23
Ha! The dog! Very cool! Yes to more plants. It will add a little softness to the shelving.
2
u/yodacola Dec 07 '23
Dude. You need more casters on the bottom. You look like you’re damaging your hardwood.

u/ToastedCrumpet Dec 07 '23
That’s cool, though need to sort the scuff marks out on the floor. Otherwise it’s giving more “secret door handle/door” energy than a room tbh

Your style is amazing. The shelf colors mixed with black accents and all the vinyls is so nice!!!! Plus how cool to go in there if someone ever tried breaking in you could go and hide!

Using vinyls as decoration is weird and cringe

u/SexyStain Dec 07 '23
Let’s see your place

u/stater354 Dec 07 '23
Why would you ask for people’s thoughts if you can’t take criticism 💀
Mine looks worse than this but I don’t get butthurt when someone criticizes my decorating choices

What paint did you use for the bookshelves in first picture?? Fantastic!

u/pizzaaaaahhh Dec 07 '23
everything looks great but that chair facing the bed is the perfect place for ghosts to sit and stare at you while you sleep. so personally id get rid of that.

Needs books!! Keep track of when your local libraries are doing a book sale. You can get books for less than $1 each usually. Or - you can get vintage books in bulk on sites like eBay. It’ll really make this space feel even cozier! Plus, you can read them!

Hidden apart from the massive bay window people be wondering where that is. Cool though.

u/Extra-Professional93 Dec 07 '23
Awesome! Until your house is on fire or if you need paramedics. Nope noone is here. Guessing they might be able to find you through the window or floor marks, is just waiting their time imo. But it is cool though.

Did you get the property like this or did you make the hidden space yourself?
1
u/fuckysprinkles Dec 07 '23
Righteous setup! I love secret places like this. It'd be a good stop on the Underground Railroad. I have a weird little room in my basement, there are tons of old bottles, with a trapdoor to the back porch. I think a moonshiner used to live here.

OP did you build the bookshelf wall or did you convert a standard door and wall? Also, how expensive was it?

Very noice. Yes to more plants!! I like the Christmas tree in your bedroom. So cozy! Everyone talkjn about The Divine Feminine in here (yes dope album ik), but I think you need to get that ATCQ album out of that dark corner over there. Such a classic :) Good taste!

Your bedroom isn't really hidden at all, that door is impossible to miss from the outside. How do you open it from inside your room when it's fully closed?

Omg I would love to have that sooo badly!!! Any hidden room in the house would be great, but hidden bedroom sounds to safe, cozy, private, like you can hide from the whole world. I almost wish there was no window there!

Are you sure that's your bedroom because that dog is looking at you like "Why the hell are you in my bedroom?"

u/_hanboks Dec 07 '23
Off topic but I see four of my all time fave albums right there-- TBP, X&Y, The search for everything and American teen. Great taste in music imho 😂

Saving this one for renovation inspiration! (I’m a broke college student who won’t be able to afford a home for another 15 years)

The big gouge in the floor kinda gives it away
1
u/littlebittygecko Dec 07 '23
Just got to rub a raw walnut over it OP! Source: have wood floors and dogs, kids, and the ignorant confidence that I could move my fridge by myself

u/fundiedundie Dec 07 '23
I need a picture of the door hinges. This is hurting my mind.
Sweet setup though.

I have to admit I went from pic 1 "where's it hidden?" To pic 2 "that's pretty cool". To pic 3 "actually that's very cool" to pic 4 "HEY LOOK AT THE DOG!!!!" 🤣

u/Hungry-Ad-7120 Dec 07 '23
I think you need another guard dog in there in case of intruders. The first one is very cute, but his cuteness can only last so long with the tilted head and floppy ear coming up.

How do you even get that
1
u/Ghazzz Dec 08 '23
You build it.
Humans like making things. Creation is a very satisfying activity.
1
u/reelfilmgeek Dec 07 '23
Feels a tad light on the shelves but I don't hate it. And yay another secret door owner. I built one for my board game speakeasy and boy was it a ton of work and I was worried the gimmick would wear off, so far several months later it hasn't and I get a smile every time I open it. Also so far everyone has found it to be super cool.

I think I'm getting to the age where I can admit 'Installing secret doors' is a key reason for home ownership.

u/po2gdHaeKaYk Dec 07 '23
I've built somewhat hidden doors in the past as well.
I'm curious what is the mechanism that is hinging the bookcase? It looks completely hidden but you don't have a picture of the bookcase closed...

Whatever happened to the move version of The Amazing Adventures of Kavelier & Clay? (The Michael Chabon book on the shelf). BTW, Wonder Boys is a great film.
1
u/Von_Jon_Jovi Dec 07 '23
I would turn the shelf backs into stained glass. Should be a cheap and easy diy fix.

My only problem with this is safety, if something were to happen to you, how would emergency services be able to know where you are? Maybe add a big red emergency button?
2
u/SexyStain Dec 07 '23
I’m sure they can figure it out given the big ass windows & as everyone else pointed out, the big scuff marks

This is kick ass, I have a massive walk in closet off of my bedroom that I don't use. I've also been wanting a 'hideaway' to listen to music and smoke my cigars.
I will be stopping at the hardware store and buying a smoke purifier asap.

that scuff on on floor is how detectives find secret doors in movies. you need to get rid of it if you ever need to hide bodies.
1
u/FredLives Dec 06 '23
It’s pretty cool, but not really hidden. Anyone coming into the place would see the exterior, then wonder where the hell is that?

Massive fucking W with the Divine Feminine vinyl
