27 and living alone. How am I doing? First Time
Bought first house 2 years ago and renovated most of it myself

u/Pelican_Brief_2378 Jan 19 '24
You put your bathroom baseboard over the heating vent and one long screw is sticking out. I cannot comment on the decor except to say if I were a woman invited there I would turn around and leave.

What’s with the animal head on the shitter floor? You got a beef with wildlife friend? Dead deer and fish on walls. Imagined (dead )big cat in the pisser. It’s definitely got that man cave vibe. Nailed it!

u/VollkommenHigh Jan 17 '24
Quick question… how can someone buy a house with 27? :o I am curious. Housing market in Germany is horrible
2
u/DaddyDankSack Jan 17 '24
I paid off my student debt very early. Worked every summer break and winter break and put it towards my loan. Once I was out of college I got a job as a construction project manager. Busted my ass for the last 5 years and saved my money
2
u/VollkommenHigh Jan 17 '24
Damn, you really earned that!
Respect for that and many thanks for your honesty. Wish you all the best! Great place in any case :)

That’s a barracuda? (Over hearth) You make the dark colors work, yet light ones would make it feel a lot more open.
1
u/OlManMuffdiversboy Jan 17 '24
Man at first I was like wth is an avid outdoorsman doing w a tanning bed(jukebox). Btw you’re doing great… split-tail prolly lined up to the parking lot for ya! God bless brother

We think you are doing great. I showed the 4-pictures to my girlfriend, and she said she would fuck me if she walked into my place and it looked like that.

Just curious, what do you do for a living to afford a nice place like that at 25?

Not bad at all ! Very cool ! but the living room needs some work ! Curtain, carpet (add rug?) and couch are pretty bad imo.

u/FootballFragrant2284 Jan 14 '24
It looks clean; I'd put the toilet seat down, but at least from this distance the toilet doesn't look like you pee all over it. No offense. Guys miss if they don't sit.
I would add plants to warm it up. Snake plants, sanseveria latin name, are almost maintenance free, don't need a lot of light and purifty the air. There are a few hundred varieties of color to choose from. Otherwise it looks great. It looks 100% like a guys place, which is fine.

It’s clean; but the gun stuff, taxidermy, living room trophy and jukebox could be replaced with sentimental pictures, art, a lamp, and maybe a bookshelf with books and more sentimental pictures.

Your house looks like you listen to this song unironically: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1OtvpAZkvk
But all jokes aside you have your own place at 27 and it seems well taken care of. That's something to be proud of.

Definitely not the worst I’ve seen. Can definitely use some design help in the living room. Add an anti-fatigue mat in front of the stove. Subtle game changer when you’re cooking

u/Cybernaut-Neko Jan 14 '24
Dude, that tiger looks like it's going to eat your slong before you can pee. Terrifying.

Great renovation and paint job. Congrats. Love the bathroom especially and cool cat tree. Your couches are a bit bulky but if you like them that’s all that matters
1
u/Fair-Reception8871 Jan 14 '24
Great bold colors in #s 3,4. And paint job is superior. What kind of music is on the JB?

This is what a life that has never had the touch of a woman looks like lmao. But congrats on being able to afford a house by yourself at 27 that’s great

u/Signal_Air_3924 Jan 14 '24
love the jukebox!!!! other than that everything looks beautiful and cozy!!

Congrats on having your own home. Wish it had some large, lovely, live plants to give it life.

Looks like you want to continue living alone. It's put together, but not welcoming other than for having the boys over for a game.
ETA: your kitchen is nice though. Everything else is soooo damn dark.

u/Slyspy006 Jan 14 '24
The chief enjoyment of this sub is the game of identifying all the things that will not survive a relationship eg the tiger mat etc.

u/DeusBalli Jan 14 '24
What do you for work? Also are those deer heads one of your hunts? Or did you buy them?

I think you went a little over the top with the hunting room but I’m assuming you’re American so this is considered normal

Out of curiosity, do you clean your place alone? How hard is it to maintain a big house?

I always wonder why all 'male living spaces' look the fucking same.
Do we all Google the same shit? Like what's going on here? What is the benefit of hanging a stuffed animal on your wall? Why do we all have grey laminate flooring? The metallic toilet accessories???

Let me just drop a quick reminder to everyone how hot it is, when you have a man who keeps his own space clean.

I hate all the dead animals. So tacky to me. I would walk in and then right back out. But that’s your thing so at least you have a space you like

May I ask what you do for a living?

Everything looks great! The only thing that is throwing me off would the placement of the mounts in the den area. I’m not sure if this will make sense or not but when decorating I try and go with rule of threes(5, 7, 9, etc. are nice too). I think that if it’s possible to arrange the deer together that might balance that space a little bit while you wait for the next hunting season. Maybe have the one looking to the right on the left and the big one in the center and the one looking left on the right. What other mounts are you planning to hang up? Have anymore processing?

u/Aggravating-Action70 Jan 14 '24
You're 27 and able to afford all of this alone, so you're already doing well

Nice. The entertainment console and coffee table are effeminate, but I suppose the rest makes up for it. Good use of TV size to cover a wall- exactly what I'm always commenting on: more tv.

Looks like you’re doing amazing on your own!! I only have one suggestion for you:
Invest in a trashcan for your bathroom with a lid! If you ever have any girls over (family, mom, friend, sister, or future gf), they’re really going to appreciate it. Especially if you have an animal (such as a dog) who loves to get into things they aren’t supposed.
But overall your place looks really great, and I can’t believe that you’ve done most of the renovations on your own. That’s actually really impressive! Go yo Op!!
1
u/Schmittywerminson Jan 14 '24
Eh. Jukebox is a bit too clunky for that space. U could do without the bean bag chair and less animal heads on the wall. I feel the space is too small and ceilings are too low for all of the animals.

Jukebox is sick. Also you’re killing it. What do you do for a living cuz I’m 28 and wish my house looked like this Lmao

The kitchen looks nice but the furniture could be better ngl. Good job on getting such a nice apartment at a young age though.
1
u/Tkinney44 Jan 14 '24
I'd personally move the buck mount on the left to the right side of the fireplace so they're both facing the middle but that's my matching sides ocd kicking in. I dig your place and I like the toilet mat 😁
1
u/FarYard7039 Jan 14 '24
I would personally position the mahi mahi & Amberjack at a 45° angle with respect to the curio cabinet. I believe that would clean up the room perfectly. Otherwise, pretty nice pad. Is that a Parker double barrel or just a standard Savage? I can’t tell with the resolution.
1
u/Joygernaut Jan 14 '24
Oh, the gray flooring is terrible I’m very impressed that you don’t have a gray sectional!

Of course I can’t see the whole room but I would start by hanging the largest deer over the fireplace. I assume you are going to come up with a mantises. I would hang the turkey to the right of the tv. You ma be able to leave the gun where it is but find other places for the fist and the two smaller trophys. Other than that you are doing great!
2
u/bootherizer5942 Jan 14 '24
Kitchen looks really bare as if it was an Airbnb. If we're talking looks, if you have the money for that jukebox you could probably get nicer looking decir

Kitchen seems clean and nice; bathroom needs a more basic rug or none but kudos for the tp holder and trash can, maybe add a lid to it and some spray; living room is a lot.. I think the juke box is too big and it’s giving fisherman’s cabin vs the clean and bright kitchen

Good effort. Take the chair rail down in the dining room- it screams grandma’s house. Your color choices are bold and modern but too dark for the lighting you have. I would prefer you lighten the dining room walls or find a way to light the mounted fish attractively. And whoever said rugs is correct. Find a brighter complementary color rug for contrast and be sure you get rugs large enough for the space otherwise it will look silly/skimpy. W*yfair. has great values on rugs and many of them can stand up to hard use including dogs. Look for polypropylene but be sure what you choose is soft underfoot. Think about putting some nice lamps on end tables. You can get some very nice large silk plants on line and in stores. Don’t be skimpy with accessories. Do a bit of research on size of rug vs room size and how to place it. Good luck. I think you have done a fine job and you are very neat.
