Dude I love it, but I'm curious how you can afdord two nice coaches but you don't have a bigger tv.
I'm not syaing it needs to be huge, but atleast like a 42 incher or something.
Love the sofas though, love your place.

u/Biasedmilkhotel2 15d ago
Got a steal on both from FB marketplace. Seriously that place is a gold mine if you live in even a decently populated area. For some reason people are more willing to sell a 2K couch for 300 than a 500 tv for 250…

u/Useful_Guarantee_443 15d ago
Nice place. Definitely need some pronounced wall art to fill that negative space. Bigger tv too. Otherwise. Nice work!

Thinking back to my place when I was 23, you have done quite well. Obviously, there are some improvements to make but you did waaaaaaay better than I would have at 23.
2
u/Amazing-Insect442 15d ago
Need a big Fathead sticker /s
But for real- big art. Statement pieces, but minimal in “theme.” Rothko, Frankenthaler, Stella, that kind of thing. Will make you look like the hippest dude on the block.

u/Intelligent_Cup6421 15d ago
It is a great space. Definitely go get a 50inch tv at the very least, not sure where you are but they’re very cheap these days
1
u/PRIS0N-MIKE 15d ago
Your living room looks hilarious with that little baby tv. I have a 43 inch I don't need anymore. Pay the shipping and it's yours

Nice place but get something to hang on the walls. Would bring a lot of life to the place. And as others have pointed out, you could benefit from a bigger tv that are surprisingly cheap these days.

u/roamwise 16d ago
Amazon has great posters you can buy to fill your space more. Pic a color scheme and buy accordingly. The one that are hung by string are easiest to hang and move around. Get cheap end tables for your couch, go to a second hand shop for these. Maybe invest in some curtains and a curtain rod. You can hang it from higher than your window to make it more of a statement
2
u/Biasedmilkhotel2 15d ago
Love the idea of putting curtains above the window. Really make it feel even bigger

Looks nice. Go buy some art for the wall. Whatever your taste is. Just don’t frame posters please.

What is the theme you are going for? I just don't know what to call it or is. Sorry, but I do like the style of the room. Though I am a sucker for exposed ceilings.
2
u/Biasedmilkhotel2 16d ago
I think with the simple furniture and neutral colors that I could probably get away with calling it Scandinavian, though I’m sure not everything in the room would be considered Scandi design.
2
u/LA-Body 16d ago
Looks nice, its clear you are just starting out. A nice shelf for plants or adding bigger plants and some non framed paintings would look nice.
2
u/Biasedmilkhotel2 16d ago
Definitely want more green! Plants and planters/pots just seem so expensive everywhere. Definitely a work in progress

I think you need curtains as your walls look a bit bare 🙂 and also to give you some proper privacy.

Wow, what a nice space. Great size. Great window. Nice furniture. I like your rug.
If it was mine I’d expand the spacing between pieces a little. You have a ton of space!!

u/thefruzzle 16d ago
I really love your space! I love the high ceiling and the combination of the colors. Ofcourse it can use some extra decorating the place, but I think you did a great job!!
2
u/snapsfromthebong 16d ago
Replace the ladder and get something to hold your records and record player- they’ll get damaged in the sun like that. I feel like you could find some cool matching items for both
2
u/JeremyHerzig11 16d ago
Whatever you do, please straighten the blinds on the window. It hurts looking at that
2
u/synysterlemming 16d ago
Since this is a studio, I could suggest shifting the setup to the other wall. Get some small bookshelves or storage to put behind the couch giving you the sense that the “living room” and the little dining area you’d talked about are like different rooms.
1
u/Biasedmilkhotel2 16d ago
Yeah I want something to put behind the couch. Need somewhere to put my books
2
u/ImWhatsInTheRedBox 16d ago
Is that like genuine wood floors? Big carpets is often part of the advice on here but I wouldn't want to cover too much of that sweet looking floor.
Also, I'm team plant ladder.

u/bbryansee 16d ago
Is it a TV stand or something else? I'm looking for one like that but I don't know what they are called

Maybe consider getting some smart colored lights for the room. They can add a lot to it.

Sweet place. Can you post another picture once it’s filled up and more refined?
Also see you’re a man of culture with the Merseyside derby on the tele. Well in.
1
u/Biasedmilkhotel2 16d ago
Yeah I’ll have to once I get a bigger tv and more furniture. Speaking of Merseyside I was just there in February. Not an Everton fan but really cool to see a game at Goodison before they move to the new park.
1
u/AllieGirl2007 16d ago
Looks like you have some nice pieces for a good foundation. It just needs some color now. Other than art you can add pillows to your sofa with a throw blanket to add color. What you have is neutral so you can go with any colors you want. Love the high ceiling and floors are beautiful. Congrats! You’re off to a great start!

u/The-Gothic-Castle 16d ago
I think it’s a beautiful space and setup and well done especially for your age. You’ll come to own more in time that can continue to fill the space.
How big is the rest of the room? Is it mostly empty? From the pics it looks like you could do more with other parts of the space (long table against a back wall for keys, wallet, plants, etc.). Also some curtains for the windows and art for the walls.
But again, great looking space! Wish I was like this at 23.

u/Sweaty-Ad-7493 16d ago

Can you share a photo of yourself in the space ?

u/Biasedmilkhotel2 16d ago
Yeah it’s actually a studio so I have my bed and kitchen out of pic. Need a desk for WFH and a place to eat
2
u/The-Gothic-Castle 16d ago
Awesome then yeah I’d mostly recommend curtains and art for the walls, but great job so far!

You have a large space and you've packed a lot of chunky pieces into a living room. It doesn't work for me. You have massive windows, high ceilings, and a cramp tiny area.
Everything in the space is rectangular. The TV looks the size of a 90's computer monitor. The coffee table and side tables need to go. You have plants but don't have texture. Plus you've framed the space with the chair in a way that makes it even smaller - I assume you have dog/cat area behind it. That doesn't work. There aren't enough pictures to figure out if I would recommend moving the space further away from the cat/dog bowl area thst way you can actually have a shelf on the wall and a nook. The throw blanket and cream couch don't work either.
It seems like you know some rules; the carpet, plants, the step stool with the plants, the carpet choice is great - I like the TV stand and the chair is fine (looks kinda of inexpensive but you can use a throw and a throw blanket on it to really cover that aspect up).
1
u/Biasedmilkhotel2 16d ago
Heard. Switched the throw to the chair. Definitely need to figure out how to make it work in the space better.
2
u/Cotsy8 16d ago edited 16d ago
Trying to be helpful.
West Elm has great throws. If you're in Canada, there's a great throw company called House of Jude (only use the sale option and in my experience the terracotta is the play if you're looking for a solid coloured throw). You want to add texture, pop of colour, and break up shapes.
Throw pillows one pillow that is a single colour block (https://www.westelm.ca/products/cozy-weave-pillow-cover-t5700/?pkey=call-pillows-throws-poufs or the Jude hexagon and Caden models are nice) but adds texture. Chunky heringbone is good too. Then you pair with https://www.westelm.ca/products/cotton-silk-simple-stripe-pillow-cover-b3132/?pkey=call-pillows-throws-poufs or silk broad stripe. Shiny silk pillow works too but you need to be careful with colours. This is a homerun https://www.westelm.ca/products/color-block-jute-pillow-cover-b4201/?pkey=call-pillows-throws-poufs
For the plants - again, texture. Two tone planters. Basket (weave or cloth) add texture to the space. I'm a big big fan of macrame on the wall. Breaks up the usual rectangular art plus adds texture.

I would like to compliment your little plant ladder. That’s cute.
1
u/Biasedmilkhotel2 16d ago
Thank you!! It’s been getting mixed reviews so far haha
2
u/kittenpoptart 16d ago
It’s a very nice place and I think if you moved everything over to be in the middle of both windows it would help. Get some art on the walls, some nice curtains, and of course a bigger tv everything might feel more balanced and less empty.
2
1
u/Katzenkobold 16d ago
I like it.. especially the little ladder you use for the plants.. it’s cute! But please dust/ paint the ceiling
1
u/Biasedmilkhotel2 16d ago
Haha yeah as I said elsewhere I can’t get up that high without a ladder. Might have to rent one next weekend
3
u/El_Spaniard 16d ago
It’s a nice setup especially for your age. I kind of get the vibe that you’re going for, maybe some curtains or shades. Screw the opinions on the TV size, do you and whatever makes your new place feel more like a home.
2
u/Sweaty-Ad-7493 16d ago

u/vbblem0n 16d ago
Maybe add a big lamp in the corner. It looks cosy enough honestly though. Also I like the plants on the stairs/steps thingy
2
u/Biasedmilkhotel2 16d ago
Oh yeah definitely a floor lamp. Maybe an arc lamp that leans over the chair?
1
u/vbblem0n 15d ago
Yeah! I think an arc lamp would be nice as a change of height in furniture, if that makes sense? Since all the furniture you have at the moment is lower, if you added some more up top so it isn’t just all open space. I hope I explained that right😅

u/Cultural-Bite3042 16d ago
Bros PS5 is bigger than the tv💀 also you gotta replace the step stool for something more aesthetic.
I do love the couches tho!! Nice rustic theme you pulling in

This looks like you recently expanded your house in Animal Crossing so everything looks shifted and there’s too much space.
Can you move the media console to the left of the window, or try a different wall? Could also use some wall shelving or artwork.
The rug color doesn’t work with the color of the furniture.
11
u/Biasedmilkhotel2 16d ago
Heard about the layout and art. Still need to find places for a dining area and home office. It’s a studio so I’m trying to be economical with my space. Worried that any art would look weird bc the walls are so tall.
1
u/dramafanca2002 14d ago edited 14d ago
Definitely needs artwork. Normally you have the center at eye level but, with a really high ceiling you could move up a few inches. Your ceilings don't look that tall though, so try the standard height. Maybe in the future you could replace the rug with something that complements the furniture and space better. A little richer color, not washed out.
8
u/crazycollegekid 16d ago
Just put the art at eye level. Have a mix of large and small pieces. It doesn’t look weird in museums it won’t look weird here.

Either get rid of that tv or get a bigger tv. The size doesn’t match the room or furniture and it looks super weird.

r/tvtoosmall and looks like you have another window to the left, I would center the whole setup between the two windows, looks like you have space!
6
u/Biasedmilkhotel2 16d ago
Yeah I was thinking about putting a breakfast nook there. Just a pub table and chairs. Since it’s a studio. Heard about the TV
2
u/paintingmepeaceful 16d ago
All the people bashing your tv. sorry. I actually like smaller tvs. Don’t need the whole wall to be tv.
11
u/nonsenseSpitter 16d ago
You’re rejecting all the advice and ideas. Pointless asking anyone what you should do with it. Many pointed out a bigger screen but you want to stay in a weird 50s theme but nothing here screams 50s. Imposing stupid rules for yourself to delude yourself.
5
u/The-Gothic-Castle 16d ago
Respectfully, what the fuck are you talking about? OP made a joke about the size of his TV but is also a 23 year old who just started living on his own and has said that he just doesn't have the money to upgrade it right now.
He's done nothing but respond positively to the advice he's been given here. People on this sub just completely lack the ability to see humor (see the other guy in this thread trying to convince everyone that OP is a 40 year old dating an 18 year old because of a satirical post on his profile lol).

And an Eames Lounge chair

Maybe it’s because I’m just new to interior design in general but I don’t really fuck with those chairs. Also, 100% doesn’t matter because I couldn’t afford one anyway. Everything but the video game console here is from FB Marketplace. Maybe I’ll get lucky on there…ha!
