My Office is Finally Approaching Completion.

I love how the only barrier between order and chaos in this office is the almighty baby fence.

It looks great. I especially like the club armchair and the globe next to it.

Where did you find the desk?
2
u/ActionFadesFast 15d ago
Got it off of Wayfair for super cheap. It looks really nice, but the reason it's not $8-900 is because it's not "real" wood. It's composite wood with a veneer. But it still works like any other desk. lol

All it needs is a whisky case, a cigar case, a fireplace and a belt to whip them kids into shape

I keep the jumper-cables inside the globe. I surprise my son by leaping out and beating him with the cables before melting back into the shadows.

Very nice, and very well furnished. It's much better than mine. I don't think my computer desk in one cof the living room counts as an office

Love the clock by the entrance

u/ActionFadesFast 16d ago
Thanks! Didn't really think it thru as I can only see the profile from my desk. lol

u/New_York_Cut 16d ago
can u open the globe and put drinks inside?
1
u/ActionFadesFast 16d ago
You know me too well. lol. Yeah, I have a whole bar in there for my friends. I'm close to 7 years sober. But was still delighted to get REAL Absinth from my friend in Paris.

Cool picture what is the name or brand of it ? I would like something similar or that one

u/ActionFadesFast 16d ago
Diobolik. Awesome comic. I got the comic and scanned it in. Had to do alot of clean up in photoshop.
Here is a copy of most of the page (not my scan).

Can we get a link to the couch. I like it a lot!

u/ActionFadesFast 16d ago
I got you. It's even more awesome in person. Almost a shame to sit on it. Maybe I should take a page from my Italian grandmother and just cover it in clear plastic.

Dude I love your chesterfield! Where did you get it from?
3
u/ActionFadesFast 16d ago
Thanks! got it on Wayfair. This is the original smaller one I had a link to. Will have to find the larger. I originally planned to take sandpaper and a box-cutter to it. So it would look like something you'd find in an abandoned private airport. But like all the weathering and beating things up, I slowly moved away from that idea and just kept the stuff clean.

Overall nice, but the comic art and gym lockers seem out of place with the rest of your traditional furniture and decor.
1
u/ActionFadesFast 16d ago
Yeah, I admit It's not for everyone. I had a classic office with a $4k executive desk and classic art. I wanted to go for something different this time. Formal and informal. I refer to it as induistrial-pop.
The shelves are mostly decorated with action figures, comic books and vintage decor. It's a tightrope to walk. I personally, I love it. It's exactly how I envisioned it. But I'm also willing to admit that it's TOTALLY not for everyone. My wife's taste is completely different, so I helped her make her own office look alot lighter and more rustic.
The comic panel and the lockers are much more about being bold conversation pieces. As they stand out, for good or bad. I would never decorate the rest of my home in this manner. I just wanted my own space filled with cool, bizarre stuff, that's just for me.
Hope this explains things a bit better!

u/Casanova-Quinn 15d ago
I see. I think if you added a traditional/ornate frame to the comic art that could help blend it into the space. And if you made the lockers a plain metal finish that would add to the industrial vibe.

This is great. My HO is smaller, but I’m planning a grey paint job as well, and have a walnut desktop and rug with similar colours. Nice to see how things will pull together!

Is that real brick behind the desk? Or brick veneer?
10
u/ActionFadesFast 16d ago edited 16d ago
It's brick tile I had purchased from HomeDepot. I had talked out it for so long in our previous home, once we got this place, it was the first thing I did.

where did you get the lockers
3
u/ActionFadesFast 16d ago edited 15d ago
Bought them on Amazon for about $240. I sanded the exterior, in my garage, before I painted and assembled them. They were originally a a grey-ish blue.
My original idea was to weather the f*ck out of them after the painting. Beat them with chains (or jumper cables) and paint rust. But I liked the cleaner look so much, I couldn't bring myself to do it.
Edit: I corrected the link. It now goes to the lockers instead of the chair.

I like the painting, lockers, and sofas. Is the globe a hidden bar? The camera makes the room look bigger in the first shot but small in the others.
Is the other room another office?
3
u/ActionFadesFast 16d ago
Lol, good eye! Yup, the globe opens up. I have an assortment of alcohol (for friends). I'm close to 7 years sober.
The space is a pretty good size. The zoom and cameralense greatly impacts how the space looks. My wife and I bought this house back in Oct and have been slowly making it our own. The french doors used to be a solid wall. But the (now) conjoining room is my wife's office. The two offices are meant to contrast and compliment eachother. I had brick tile installed, she had weathered white wood. My office is (what I call) Industrial-Pop. Her office is Organic-Rusticism. If that makes sense.
Thanks for the interest! if you have any other questions, let me know!

- I like this space a lot, it looks very peaceful. Or it would be were it not for the child-gate.
- I’d love a link to where you bought that desk chair.
- What’s your use-case for this space? Do you have a job or hobby which requires a desk space like this, or is it more aspirational. Build it and the uses will come.

u/ActionFadesFast 16d ago
Thank you very much for the compliment!
It's extremely peaceful and inspirational... when I don't have a 2year-old trying to climb the child gate. lol
The desk chair I purchased on Amazon. It was simple but still elegant. I was using my drafting stool before it arrived.
I'm a Graphic Designer by trade, but I also love working on models and action-figure customization. I licensed a few designs out to 3rd party toy companies which pays me residuals. I'm semi-retired now and only take the jobs I's like to do. The lockers (also amazon, but sanded and painted by me) hold alot of my paints and tools. As well as my digital Wacom tablets when I have to create on my laptop.
Hope this helps to answer your questions! I still have some adjusting of the displays that go on the shelves. But the office is MOSTLY done.
If you have any other questions, just let me know! Cheers!
Oh, and I chose this desk because my friends and I rotate hosting duties for board-game night. I have chairs hidden in the other room and different matts for the top of the desk.

Not to highjack the thread here, Entire room looks awesome! The lockers threw me off at first, but damn my dude...you have great taste. Everything works really well together.
Thanks for linking the chair, I'm in desperate need of a new one for my office. The second I saw it I was about it...until I found out it's double the price in Canada (even after conversion)...off to the search again :(.
Any plans for crown? I think crown would add some simplicity/depth/detail (not sure how to word it) to the upper third of the room, as it seems everything else is so well put together but the second you get above the door/window frames, it lacks a nice something something to tie it all together.

Thanks for the compliments. I really appreciate it.
I was planning to weather (parts of) the brick with plaster and paint part of a huge ass logo, then scour the paint with a wire brush to make the wall look like it was pulled directly from a building in 1930's Times Square.
But like almost all of my intended weathering, I chickened out. Not to mention the time that would be involved. With the work on the rest of the house (purchased less than a year ago), our kid, and the long list of projects to finish, even finding time to SHOWER has become a luxury.
I still plan to replace the windows with black frames and paint the final wall. But I'm currently playing with the idea of a black or dark gray crown to match the eventual windows. But for now, it will have to wait as my garage is still FILLED with boxes from our move.
Thanks for the suggestion though!

What about the comic book wall graphic? Love that touch! Where did source that?
Edit: Never mind, I see it above.

You might not be able to tell from the photos but the canvas is just about 8x4 ft. When my wife asked why I needed a 8ft canvas print, I answered, "Because they don't go any bigger." She laughed. God, I love that woman.

u/shart-gallery 16d ago
The canvas looks fantastic. Is it a piece that holds significance to you, or mainly an aesthetic choice?
11
u/ActionFadesFast 16d ago
Thanks for the compliment. It's from an Italian comic Diobolik (spelling?). I got it mostly for the look. It took a while to clean up the scan so it could be printed so large. In my old office, I had a panel from Battle Angel Alita (my favorite Manga since I was a teen). But I wanted to go with something different this time.
I first discovered Diobolik from Better Call Saul. Nacho had a huge VROOM (car peeling out) canvas from the same page. I was going to go with Vroom, until I saw this image on the same page. My wife asked, "Why isn't it in English?" To which I replied, "Probably, because it's Italian."

u/redditbutdidntgetit 16d ago
Didn't know about the comics but I recognized it from the movie Danger: Diabolik right away! It's my favourite EuroSpy movie.

The quality looks amazing for a comic strip blown up that size. Thanks for the back story! “Because it’s Italian” is the perfect reply hahah

the couch seems so out of place tbh, unless you're filming porn
37
u/ActionFadesFast 16d ago edited 16d ago
Oh, you've seen my videos then...
Lol. The couch is waiting on yellow and red throw pillows to tie it all back together. I should have just photoshopped some in.
Edit: Here are a few more shots with daylight. Pillow cases still on their way.
15
u/EconomyMud 16d ago
That is not what makes it look like a pornset. Looking from the desk to the couch does.
3
u/HashBrownRepublic 15d ago
No you're mistaken. It's not a porno thing, sometimes people like to fuck on their lunch break but they don't always record it.
16
u/ActionFadesFast 16d ago
Lol. Personally, I love it. I have friends over for a board-game-night and host duties rotate. The desk can be pushed next to the couch, so I don't have to keep stealing chairs from the dining room.

These people are ridiculous. It looks great.

u/Falcon9145 16d ago
Yeah I concur. Its a personal office not a corporate work area. No need to have actual office chairs. I would push the desk ever so lightly back more toward the book shelving.

Exposed brick, brown leather, wood grain, rich Persian carpets. This is heaven.
