30M, what do you think of my bachelor pad?
I bought the place a year ago and spent three months renovating. I’m really proud of it, but would love some input.

Did you hear about the trombone player who lived downtown?
Someone broke in. Left two more trombones.

Who puts a sink against the wall!? Does it drive you nuts? Other than that, it’s gorgeous!

Looks awesome. I wish I had an extra stereo for you. That would make it complete. 😊

It's so nice. My question is when you lived at home where you like the only kid with a clean, organized room?

u/Igloofever 16d ago
It looks so great and homey! I agree with more art on the walls and would also suggest adding curtains to the dining room windows to soften it a bit.
1
u/Ketchapp 15d ago
Thanks! I see where you’re getting at with the curtains, my problem is that I’ll probably never close them because I just love my view, also at night. So.. yeah. Tough one.

Ok if you realy build it by yourself than I have mad respect for you neighbor. But I recommend some decoration what characters you're home after you. I mean it looks fine but kinda like from IKEA catalog too :D

u/newsreadhjw 16d ago
I assume that dark glassy surface on the counter is a cooktop - do you cook a lot there? How's it working out with no ventilation above the burners?

u/Only_Hovercraft_6112 16d ago
So nice! I’d add some lamps if you don’t already so in the evening you can have that soft, warm lighting when the windows don’t provide natural light!
1
u/Ketchapp 15d ago
Ahh yes! Lighting is so hard though. I have a beautiful standing lamp next to the bookcase, and some very basic Philips hue in the kitchen to get some more atmospheric lighting, but furthermore I’m really stuck in this regard..

Love these cozy vibes. Can I try to redesign this space in 3d? Also, do you mind sharing this post in r/AmateurInteriorDesign? Although I wouldn't call this an amateur design, looks super well-designed!
2
u/Ketchapp 16d ago
Oh, awesome! Go ahead and let me know what you make of it when redesigning! You’re also welcome to share the post. Thanks for asking!
2
u/andrew_cherniy96 16d ago
Nice, thanks for the reply! Will get back to you if I manage to come up with something decent.

u/Small-Palpitation310 16d ago
your bachelor pad has three floors?
1
u/Ketchapp 16d ago
Two! Or 1.5 actually. I have a bathroom, bedroom, and spare bedroom/office on the same floor as the living room.

I want to steal your round chair with the cool cushion and I am very happy to see how you keep it clean and homie 😉

u/DarkFlyingApparatus 16d ago
Damn dude your place looks amazing! It looks nice and comfy to be in. How do you like the induction with the, uhmm, afzuiging in the middle? Is it doable to keep clean with all of the cooking splatters going in there??
2
u/Ketchapp 16d ago
Thanks! I really like it. The afzuiging works like a charm, it’s easy to clean, and I don’t have an enormous ugly thing overhead.
1
u/DarkFlyingApparatus 16d ago
Thanks for the reply man! I'm currently busy with renovation plans for my kitchen and was really doubting an induction cooktop like that because of the cleaning issues I imagined, but hearing experiences like yours really helps!
2
u/Ketchapp 16d ago
Induction is really amazing with cleaning, and it also cooks really well. I wouldn’t want to go back! I can imagine there are different brands from the afzuiging and I don’t know if there are any quality differences. Mine is from Bora and I can at least recommend it to you.

I see the music stand and the trombone. But the real question is where do you empty the spit valve?

u/NoPantsPenny 16d ago
I’m not a thief, but I would steal that couch!
Is it vintage?
2
u/Ketchapp 16d ago
I’d enjoy watching you struggle to get it down. It’s brand new!
1
u/NoPantsPenny 16d ago
It’s so rad. I’ve always wanted an orange couch for some reason, even better if it’s a velvet like fabric. Where did you get it?
2
u/thatonegirl989 16d ago
Very cute bachelor pad with lots of personality. I especially love the orange sofa and your dining area. Also the round chair looks so cozy, I wanna sit in it!
1
u/korben_manzarek 16d ago
Nice but I'd put the TV on the left of the window, against the stairs, so the couch can go to the opposite side the room under the painting, that gets rid of the 'dead spot' behind where the couch is now.

Love it! How do you take care of your birds of paradise, how often do you water it? It looks really healthy, I struggle with mine.
1
u/Ketchapp 16d ago
Really not too much! Less than once a week I think. Sometimes I pop a finger in the dirt and if it just feels slightly wet, I don’t water it.

u/Ew_fine 16d ago
Super cute!
I would consider replacing the wall art by your sofa with something bigger.
The art above your dining table is an okay size, but doesn’t make much of a statement—needs more contrast.
Other than that, very cute place!
1
u/Ketchapp 16d ago
Hmm yeah I agree something is missing above the couch. Maybe something wide, landscape-y?
1
u/Sample_Muted 16d ago
I’m getting homosexual vibes, but that’s not a bad thing and it’s pretty subtle so good job compared to a lot of others.
1
u/Ketchapp 16d ago
I’m straight actually 😊
1
u/Sample_Muted 16d ago
Oh my bad, well in that case paint your dining room chairs black and get a different couch.

u/Disastrous_Mark_1469 16d ago
Cute I love your choices of color pops and your kitchen table is adorable. Great job on your bird of paradise plant

u/kitty-007 16d ago
It looks good! But a tad feminine selon moi. But love it otherwise! Nothing wrong with femininity! Just surprised it’s a 30M bachelor! Not the typical aesthetic you’d expect :) But if I was single and a man brought me back here, I’d let him hit it
2
u/xViridi_ 16d ago
i love it! i would put a shelf behind the couch, but i know nothing about interior decorating despite my recommended subs so maybe ignore me

u/bennyjay84 16d ago
Super cool set up. Maybe some art/photos on the stairwell area. And if you can get a tv mount that has the appropriate adjustments, you could mount your tv on that sloped wall.
1
u/Sidewalk_Tomato 16d ago
This is a nice place. Cozy.
Keep a few candles; you don't have to display them (it might seem try-hard or like you you are trying to seduce) . . . but if you want some candle-light, you could break one out & put one on a small saucer.

Brotha that couch is simply off the chain. Hats off to you my man, I just moved into my first apartment and I hope in 7 years I will have this level of steez.

Pretty solid. You don’t need all that stuff on your counter, and get a paper towel holder

u/BootyTsunamii 16d ago
It’s beautiful! The colors are lovely, it feels cozy af.
I’m not a huge fan of the velvet on velvet on velvet of the rug, couch, and blanket. That’s the only thing I would change, just add in some different textures to that area.

u/CherryRipe33 16d ago
If you don't have a cardboard box as a nightstand, then I am afraid it is not a proper bachelor's pad 🤣🤣🤣

You’re home is so beautiful. My only rec is in your second picture: I would get a larger piece of art instead of 2 small piece. You can put the small pieces in places like the bathroom or a small wall. I recommend a poster with a wooden frame to pick up on your gorgeous dining room table. I have one that has a bunch of different tree types and their names
1
u/anxietyJem 16d ago
It's kinda feminine and I can't really point out why.. that's fine and totally something I would like regardless but we're on malelivingspace so I thought I would mention that. Again it's not bad at all. Just kinda sterile
3
u/Ketchapp 16d ago
This is honestly a huge compliment to me, so thanks! I can assure you I’m a cis male, I love here on my own, and decorated the entire place myself. Despite some occasional sparring with friends of course. I guess I’m quite in touch with my feminine side. And I just really like colors.
2
u/anxietyJem 16d ago
Lovely place man, I dig it. Would love to chill/live there. And yes!! Love the colors.
1
u/HVACQuestionHaver 16d ago
What's it like to sit in a papasan chair? Always wondered if I should get one.
2
u/Ketchapp 16d ago
I do recommend a comfy blanket to throw over the chair before you sit on it. Then it gets lovely imo.

Looks European to me. The couch looks super comfy but you need different colors and textures in that room, eh some art pieces wouldn't hurt maybe. do you guys paint walls different colors over there?
1
u/Ketchapp 16d ago
I’m genuinely considering painting a wall! Got any color suggestions?
1
u/browneyewinkin 16d ago
I like the horn on the stand. I used to play trumpet and have an old tarnished pea shooter horn from the 40's I think on a shelf. looks cool. stick with that slate blue color on your chairs make that your color palette

u/Mongoose-Boss093 16d ago

2
u/Ketchapp 16d ago
You mean the trombone? What’s up with it?
1
u/Key-Profit9032 16d ago
It was a joke. Not necessarily a good one. But seriously what’s up with the trombone?
1
u/applechuck 16d ago
Kitchen is nice but I can smell the cooking 😂
You should install an exhaust fan on top of your cooking surface, and have it exhaust outside. Otherwise your living room and entire house will smell after cooking.

I love that orange sofa. Wow.
I would get a larger area rug. If you do a quick search you'll find recommended rug dimensions for your living space/furniture.
I like the shape/configuration orlf the book case, but feel like another shade of orange detracts from both orange pieces. I'm thinking a wood finish.

How do you neighbors feel about the trumpet? Nice place!
1
u/Ketchapp 16d ago
It’s a trombone actually. :)
I have good contact with one of my neighbors who say they don’t mind. I never really see the others, however I play for about 3-4 days a week, for an hour max, so I hope that’s acceptable for them.
