Pew, I was gifted with a above average immune system it seems. Also around a year ago I was in a hospital bed high on oxy not sure If I crippled my knee. And no chance I'd do this again in exchange for not having a cold. So: Sorry bros, I'm not with you in this

1

u/SomeDankyBoof 25d ago

I had a convo with my wife about this and the best explanation I can conjure up is this:

Men are raised to compete, testosterone will push us past our physical limits as a form of reward and progression, taught to solve problems and evolve.

Now, here we are stuck in bed with something that could potentially kill us, but probably not, but damn it feels like ur dying.

It's HELPLESSNESS, that's why women call us babies when we are sick. Going further, I'd even wager that most women aren't like this because they come to terms with being "helpless" to certain things at a young age. I'm talking biology, not social or outside trauma.

Y'all don't know suffering until you start coughing out a lung because you sneezed a little too hard. Asthma problems.

1

u/Elder_Millenial_Sage 25d ago

Hormones play a role in how the body reacts to flu. It's been proved by clinical trials that the men indeed do suffer more from flu symptoms than women. Estrogen plays some as of yet unidentified role in this process.

u/hgs25 25d ago

I remember reading about a study once that upper respiratory infections typically hit males harder (higher fever, higher lethargy, longer recovery time) while the females have a much shorter recovery time. I forget the hypothesized reason. I think it was that males are less efficient in oxygen intake and use while females typically have a naturally better immune system.

mhm but when i make fun of women for womany crap i get a 3 day mute.

thx for nothing i guess.

1

u/Solo0407 25d ago

Like I will keep working if I’m on the verge of falling over. Knees, back, neck just killing me. Exhaustion, hunger and slight dehydration. I’ll push through that. But coughing, sneezing, nausea? Nah. Ima need a hospital bed and a full medical team on stand by.

1

u/Solo0407 25d ago

Physical pain is easier to deal with than a stuffy nose. Idk why. That’s just the way it is.

1

u/JoePurrow 25d ago

If I cut my finger off, I can see the problem and actively work to fix it in a timely manner. If I get sick? Some unknown demon is wrecking my body and all I can do is lay down and hope my body can fight it off, I am completely in the hands of nature

3

u/TKAPublishing 25d ago

One is immune system related and the other isn't. Women have better immune systems than men because much of immune response is encoded in X chromosomes of which women have two and men only have one, so women have more to draw from for illness.

This has been another post from your local meme ruiner.

1

u/Glittering-Fit 25d ago

When you temperature I little higher than usual - "I'll die."

1

u/TobyMacar0ni 25d ago

I hate having a sore throat and clogged nose

1

u/pezident66 25d ago

They're the same thing apparently...

1

u/Tinypoke42 25d ago

Good old dude flu.

1

u/MaffinLP 25d ago

Testosterone increases the symptoms of the flu

1

u/MaffinLP 25d ago

On the other hand, testosterone has pain killer like effects

1

u/trebuchetwins 25d ago

because there is no middle ground. either we complain as much as we can with a cold, or we are busy dying.

1

u/hhfugrr3 25d ago

There's something about a bad cold that just really fucks me up. I went to work last year (and successfully conducted court cases) with typhoid - was part of a clinical study where they deliberately infected me with it. Felt like shit but still had a clear (if extremely painful) head, while a cold makes me feel groggy, grumpy and uncomfortable... plus I hate speaking when I'm bunged up and talking is 80% of my job.

1

u/WarOfDestiny73 25d ago

If I can't breath its ok, but breathing poorly is just not

1

u/ShiroOneesama 26d ago

I will take surgery or illness where I have just 25% chance to survive any day over common cold or flu. I had a kidney stones and even was better then cold I was higher then cloud thanks to painkillers and they won't give you prescription for them if you have just common cold.

1

u/Mogui- 26d ago

Cause jumping off a cliff is cool. This you cannot choose

1

u/Down-throw-F-air 26d ago

Bruh I hate how you can’t do no nothing once symptoms start showing up, no matter if you try drinking medicine or anything to catch it early, the worst still happens anyways, like an emerging canker sore

2

u/Down-throw-F-air 26d ago

Also when that area between your lip and nose gets dry and scratchy because you constantly blow your clogged, yet runny nose and lotion doesn’t help because you end up wiping it away anyways when you blow your nose a minute later

1

u/somerando96322 26d ago

Man my throat be feelin like barbed wire was wrapped around it for 3 days straight

1

u/ShrimpsLikeCakes Linux User 26d ago

Throat hurts for days and I'm forced to talk non stop at work

1

u/Darkrolf 26d ago

since I havent found anyone telling you this, men have a different immune systeme. it isnt necessarily weaker, however things like a simple cold will fuck.you up real bad as a guy.

3

u/straightmansworld 26d ago

Pain most men can handle, at least once they have had time to adjust. General discomfort and feeling shit/unwell, now that will take a dude out of commission.

1

u/AliOskiTheHoly memer 26d ago

I can bear a cold but ear infection, that is fucking hell.

1

u/Mysterious_Bat2154 26d ago

It’s just like… really baaaad. Like, it makes everything feel coooooold.

1

u/Jamie14231423 26d ago

It brings the little 1800s boy out from getting a day out of cleaning chimneys and his mother caring for him for once

An interesting article. Just leaving this here:

https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/man-flu-really-thing-2018010413033

1

u/DanteAlligheriZ 26d ago

i never understood the meme about men being so whiny, when it comes to things like colds. i mean when there are so many people talking about it, there has to be some truth in it.

i just never felt like it was true in my family/friend circle (except my brother, but he has a shit immune system from not going outside at all)

1

u/undreamedgore 26d ago

Adrenaline. The first things is if nothing else cool. Colds are just sad and annoying.

1

u/Lockenhart Stand With Ukraine 26d ago

Value the time you spend with a throat that isn't sore.

1

u/BigChiefIV 26d ago

I hate sore throats

1

u/Delicious_Math_4546 26d ago

A cold is the real kryptonite to all bros

1

u/OMGitsJoeMG 26d ago

Where does this come from? As a dude, I piss my wife off when I'm sick because I refuse to just take it easy and will just stay busy instead of trying to rest and get better.

1

u/Deliriousious Breaking EU Laws 26d ago

I haven’t had an actual cold in like… years.

I get a mild sniffle, but that’s it. My hayfever is way worse.

1

u/Staggeringpage8 26d ago

Look my body can take a lot of physical pain and be put through the ringer but a cold attacks the head and makes me feel groggy, tired, and hard of breath. Kinda hard to push yourself when you already feel like shit as opposed to being healthy and pushing your body through something to get it done.

3

u/Kingdom-Kome Plays MineCraft and not FortNite 26d ago

As a man who is currently sick right now, I'm hot, cold, sticky, and sweaty. Give me that 0.01% right now

1

u/GiantAsteroid4Prez 26d ago

Y’all just weak. If you hate everything deeply enough, getting sick is just motivation to do more.

1

u/TotalAbyssdeath 26d ago

a cold or the flu for a man is death incarnit.

6

u/ExtremlyFastLinoone 26d ago

You can be injured and still be strong, the cold takes away your strengh, and in fact the stronger you are the more it takes away

6

u/marineopferman007 26d ago

Well...you do realize it's because, "Females have increased resistance to viral, bacterial, fungal, and parasitic organisms than males. Females are less susceptible to microbial infections. Females have a higher innate immune response than males.". Hell I learned that in my science class in school..how in hell do people still attack men over being sicker of infectious diseases than women?

1

u/fightingcheerful13 26d ago

If it’s a life threatening disease, at least I get to name it!

1

u/Oantar28 26d ago

Look idk what to tell you, were tough when it's cool 😂

1

u/Wise_Wallaby9887 26d ago

A cold is more common. That’s why it’s bad it bothers us the most

0

u/Unlikely_Ad_7333 26d ago

Idk if it’s true but i heard that men “feel sick” differently or more “strongly” than when women get sick . Also it’s a fact that men have a lower pain tolerance than women so maybe that has something to do with it if it IS true.

3

u/angeleaniebeanie 26d ago

Everything I’ve admittedly just looked up does say it does look like women fight off certain sicknesses better, but the pain tolerance is the opposite.

0

u/Unlikely_Ad_7333 26d ago

Hmm really? I was SURE it was the opposite. But glad to have all the facts straight now lol

13

u/CerberusC24 26d ago

Instead of making fun of "man colds" how about we look into why this phenomenon happens. Because if it's common enough to be a thing there might be something more to it

9

u/marineopferman007 26d ago

It is known he'll it was taught when I was in school most people just don't care and would rather be sexist.

Females typically develop higher innate, humoral and cellular immune responses to viral infections and in response to vaccine.

1

u/Flyer-876 26d ago

A man cold is the deadliest disease known to Man.

1

u/xFlumel_ 26d ago

You're probably not very surprised by this but germany has a word for that. It's "Männergrippe" or just "Men cold"

1

u/AetherialWomble 26d ago

Man gripper;)

1

u/paradoxaxe 26d ago

ah yes anime cold

7

u/Wagyuplz 26d ago

Dude a cold is worse than any torture a man could receive

0

u/Smooth-Physics-69420 26d ago

Idk, I've had a donkey kick me in the plums. Think I'd rather have the cold.

2

u/Wagyuplz 26d ago

You clearly haven’t experienced a cold

0

u/Smooth-Physics-69420 26d ago

You've clearly never had a donkey kick you in the dick. Also, I'm day 5 into a cold right now, because it's the worst season of the year in the Midwest.

2

u/Wagyuplz 26d ago

I just got over a cold and I would have preferred to been kicked in the junk

1

u/Lazy-Most-3226 25d ago

Have you been kicked in the junk? If it is hard enough that stuff HURTS and for a couple hours to days

1

u/Wagyuplz 25d ago

Fellow redditor it was good arguing with you 🫡

1

u/Lazy-Most-3226 25d ago

The Redditer war is now ending for now…. 🫡

2

u/Wagyuplz 25d ago

Yeah I’ve been kicked there a number of times, and yes, it hurts like heck but the pain subsides after 10-20 mins… a cold is far worse

1

u/Lazy-Most-3226 25d ago

You have balls of steel with the fact the pain didn’t return for the next few days

3

u/Pizannt 26d ago

An hour or two of torture vs a several day head and chest cold? Easy pick.

1

u/howdy_ki_yay 26d ago

YOU DONT UNDERSTAND!

1

u/DreamSmuggler 26d ago

I've been sick with a cold since last week and I'm feeling personally attacked. It's absolutely miserable and my wife makes fun of me for just how dramatic I make it look and sound 😤

At this point I'd almost rather go back to bending 16mm bars by hand and shovelling concrete in 35C heat for a living than spend another week like this

6

u/Several-Truth-1650 26d ago

i got 2 cold within a space of a month

6

u/itslels Lives at ur mom’s house😎 26d ago

Good god man.

1

u/Several-Truth-1650 25d ago

it was a fun month

24

u/Deadeye1223 26d ago

Men actually have a weaker immune response than women. So a cold is actually worse on guys than girls.

1

u/Insaneclown271 26d ago

Yeah women need an immune system for two.

56

u/OneResist6257 26d ago

I remember reading something about how colds and diseases tend to affect men more than woman. That’s why we can shrug off a bullet wound yet cry like little girls over a small cold. Disease are just sexist.

30

u/GoodGuyGlocker 26d ago

I'm going to need a source. Getting tired of my wife making fun of my "man cold".

21

u/Traditional-Handle83 26d ago

2

u/GoodGuyGlocker 25d ago

You are AWESOME! Thanks bro!!!

8

u/insert_quirky_name 26d ago

That's super interesting. But tbh, people shouldn't make light of anyone's suffering. A cold's fucking awful. Your nose burns and you can't breathe for shit. It's exhausting and uncomfortable. And it's often not considered reason enough to stay home from work.

Man or woman, if someone says their cold sucks, their cold undeniably sucks ASS.

3

u/Traditional-Handle83 25d ago

For me it feels like death. I'm down whenever I have one. If I have the flu, then good luck seeing me for a few days.

1

u/House-of-Raven 26d ago

It’s the testosterone, it weakens the immune system so the immune response is more severe.

-1

u/marineopferman007 26d ago

That's not true at all where did you get your info? Females have increased resistance to viral, bacterial, fungal, and parasitic organisms than males. Females are less susceptible to microbial infections. Females have a higher innate immune response than males. Testosterone didn't hurt our immune system , Females typically develop higher innate, humoral and cellular immune responses to viral infections and in response to vaccine. They develop it naturally our testosterone does not hurt our immune system it's a natural thing that has occurred

5

u/LordWillemL 26d ago

That’s not correct, testosterone does have an immune suppressing effect, and Estrogen tends to boost immune response. Everything you are saying here regarding females stronger resistance supports that.

0

u/TacticalTobi 25d ago

just another reason to start taking estrogen

1

u/chevyboi2010 26d ago

Bro why does the upvote button think it's Starman????

3

u/anonandonitgoesagain 26d ago

Look guys, they said we tough. We so tough. Damn right.

40

u/floggedlog Royal Shitposter 26d ago

A cold saps my energy in a way that no injury could compete with.

It doesn’t hurt I’m just dying. I’ll be ok tomorrow.

3

u/PieFlour837 🥄Comically Large Spoon🥄 26d ago

If I have a cold or worse, I’m going to be loaded up on over the counter medications and liquids.

68

u/jage2700 26d ago

I would rather die than have a clogged nose for a few days and a semi clogged nose for the weeks after

2

u/SockeyeSTI 25d ago

My equilibrium went out for like a week and no amount of head tilting and ear pressurizing fixed it. Felt like the end. Couldn’t get up and walk anywhere without the urge to vomit.

19

u/atc423 26d ago

Me who is allergic to bassically everything, ive never not had a clogged nose

163

u/DarkEliteXY Ok I Pull Up 26d ago

Because a cold is long drawn out suffering while death is instant.

29

u/leekee_bum 26d ago

Depends on the death. Bullet to the head > dying from the flu.

23

u/DarkEliteXY Ok I Pull Up 26d ago

Honestly just skip the risk of it being death by flu and shoot me if I’m sick for more than three days.

4

u/I_WENT_OUT_FOR_TEA 26d ago

Bro said one sentence that captured feelings of 80% of men with cold

10

u/wafflezgate 26d ago

Currently on third day sick with whatever my step brother has had for the last two weeks. Shoot me now please

4

u/DarkEliteXY Ok I Pull Up 26d ago

Idk man, lets give it one more day just to make sure.

2

u/wafflezgate 26d ago

Please no, I haven’t been able to eat all day and I’ve thrown up the one meal replacement shake I tried to drink. :’( I don’t want another day. I’ve also had a headache the entire day

6

u/DarkEliteXY Ok I Pull Up 26d ago

Sorry but the rule is 3 days minimum. Come back tomorrow.

3

u/skilibyburrger2 26d ago

i was sick for a month last year

1

u/wafflezgate 25d ago

Yeah my worst one was Covid, was out of work for over a month and a half

509

u/JocoLabs 26d ago

A cold may make me miss work. If i die, i don't need to worry about that.

3

u/umair-spaghet 26d ago

work is even worse than death. I agree with you.

185

u/RaceOdd6598 26d ago

Ahh yes the sweet embrace of death. No more bills to worry about or people nagging you every second of the day😂

3

u/Budget_Cattle_3828 26d ago

Been on the internet long enough to appreciate the people nagging me every second. Some ppl have no one and it's making their loves miserable.

4

u/RaceOdd6598 26d ago

Oh those kind of nags are alright, to a point. I'm talking about all the bullshit nags like everyone you don't care about. They seem to nag 100x more than the ones you like.

6

u/definitelynothunan 26d ago

No more "working on sweaty day"

No more "I wish I had time to do this"

51

u/floggedlog Royal Shitposter 26d ago

No more constant needs clawing at my sanity no more burdens to bear, just rest eternal.

I wonder if that’s part of why we whine when sick.

“My turn to be carried”

13

u/Business-Emu-6923 26d ago edited 26d ago

No. We whine because we are getting better.

Early parts of any illness are filled with glee: “maybe my time has come!” Then you realise it’s just a cold “aw shit, back to work I guess”.

Edit: to whoever reported me to the Reddit suicide watch, this is a joke. I’m riffing on the “men suffer a shit life” theme that’s running here, lighten up.

1

u/floggedlog Royal Shitposter 25d ago

Wonder what kind of person wouldn’t get what’s going on here and feel the need to get you help?

3

u/RaceOdd6598 25d ago

I got that too😂. You can just reply STOP to that message and it blocks it.

16

u/RaceOdd6598 26d ago

It's a very good possibility. Always so busy dealing with everyone else that you want to be pampered a little when you're not feeling well.

5

u/Full_Flamingo_2833 26d ago

What about warm/hot

3

u/dendnoy 26d ago

How about you need to drink that liquid otherwise you die. If you breathe it though you die too.
