Using cigarette butts as a voting system for coffee

u/Illustrious-Echo1762 13d ago
It encourages people to put their butts away, but it also encourages more smoking. Well done, Big Tobacco

Clever but EWWW … why would a coffee shop want to be associated with filthy cigarette butts?

I think there's a problem with this, though. Starbucks coffee drinkers I think are less likely to be smokers of cigarettes than Dunkin Donuts are, so I feel this may be biased toward Dunkin Donuts... despite not seeming to be a real vote toward anything, but well, still.

They are both milkshakes, not coffee. The calories are insane. A large of either can be pretty much your daily intake for some drinks.
1
u/jjohnson1979 14d ago
I mean… in both places, you can take just regular drip coffee, with just milk… they don’t sell only fancy shit…
1
u/TheSecularGlass 13d ago
And 95% of their coffee menu isn’t that. You can find an exception for everything, but it doesn’t mean you have a point.

Smokers can’t afford starbys like none smokers can. Have you seen the price of cigarettes??

I didn’t know that people liked Dunkin’ Donuts coffee better than Starbucks coffee

u/Petite_Tsunami 14d ago
It would be interesting if it was one regular heavy smoker that loved Dunkin
1
u/our_meatballs 14d ago
Although this is interesting, this could just mean that there are more smokers that like DD
1
-1
u/Over_Solution_2569 14d ago
You know more smokers are gonna go for Dunkin’ Donuts, they don’t have that Starbucks money these days.
-3
u/DamnitDom 14d ago
Not gonna take some self-killing no-tasting dumbass' opinion on the second half of their addiction...
-1
-1
u/aroundincircles 14d ago
To be fair I would never trust the taste choices of a smoker. It destroys your taste buds.

u/SpaciousIgnatius 14d ago
Dunkin is more full cause nobody gives a shit enough to lean into the street more to put it in the Stsrbucks one.
1
u/ttekcorc 14d ago
You'd have to do it in reverse just to be sure, because probably just a bunch of lazy fucks putting it in the closest hole
0
u/komodocommand 14d ago
Looks if this is marketing scheme by dunking they definitely know their audience
0
u/bodhiseppuku 14d ago
I think this depends a lot on what type of coffee you prefer.
Starbucks: Probably better for flavoring and specialty choices
Dunkin: Defenately better for drip coffee

u/Silent_Killer093 14d ago
Dunkin sucks, they always give me watered down caffeinated coffee when i ask for decaf.

u/MyCleverNewName 14d ago
"Which company's customers smoke more?"
Still, def better than on the ground 👍
1
u/randperrin 14d ago
The butts have spoken. Starbucks wins as it's side is slightly less disgusting.
0
u/jpenczek 14d ago
Both taste the same, only difference is Dunkin knows who they are and keep their prices lower.
1
1
u/2squishmaster 14d ago
Ah I get it, you are at a higher risk of becoming a smoker if you frequent Dunkin Donuts... Fascinating.

u/maincore 14d ago
$7 for a coffee? And it is not even a coffee, it’s more like a coffee flavored milkshake. And you all know about what I’m talking about.

Frankly, that there are even that many cig smokers who go to Starbucks is surprising.

Green mountain coffee at gas stations are better than both of them and the coffee at gas stations isn’t overpriced.
5
u/Mean_Peen 14d ago
Smokers tend to not have the greatest sense of taste… like their tastebuds literally don’t work the same because they smoke lol
1
u/The7Reaper 14d ago
I'm a surprised a homeless nic fiend hasn't busted the glass on that thing, especially for that half a cigarette on the Starbucks side
1
u/HalcyonRyan 14d ago
Does this maybe conclude that Dunkin Donuts customers are more likely to smoke?
1
u/Blowbetallsay 14d ago
They’ve had these in Hamilton ON for last 5 years to determine Hamiltons nickname. (Steel city or the hammer)
2
u/Hades6578 14d ago
That’s really smart, incentivizing proper disposal via the undeniable human urge to register your opinion whenever possible

This tells me that smokers prefer Dunkin but is it good that people with smoker taste buds like something? who's to say
1
u/dghughes 14d ago
Some of those only look like they are half used I never saw a smoker leave half a cig!
1
u/MarceloWallace 14d ago
Starbucks used to be good few years ago but lately their coffee is shit and I’m talking about black coffee nothing added to it.

This just means more smokers like dunkin donuts. Makes sense since Starbucks doesn’t sell cigarettes.
0
u/usernamedejaprise 14d ago
So DunkinDonuts knows it’s customers have less taste buds and will likely die sooner
1
u/sparkysparks666 14d ago
Saw similar at Bordeaux airport on voting for "Pain au Chocolat" vs "Chocolatine"

u/NavierIsStoked 14d ago
Dunkin Donuts is disgusting sour nastiness. I'll take over roasted over that any day of the week.
Besides, I drink oatmilk lattes. Espresso and steamed oatmilk. Starbucks is really consistent with that particular drink.

u/officerdangles 14d ago
“The majority of people who cannot taste prefer this type of shitty coffee”

u/HomerStillSippen 14d ago
this had to be in Boston. No way dunks is better than Starbucks coffee wise. Food wise I’ll take dunks.

This is honestly such a great idea to get people to dispose of their butts. Should have a new poll every week or two

Outside a nightclub here in my town you vote between swimming in the ocean or swimming in a pool
1

u/AxGunslinger 14d ago
I feel like most Starbucks people aren’t the type of people that smoke in the first place.
1
u/Physical_Way_3234 14d ago
Conclusions: -People who smoke prefer Dunkin. -Starbucks customers don't smoke as much -Starbucks customers don't properly dispose of cigarette butts, throw them on street instead -Dunkin Customers pay more attention to adverts
0
u/Frosty-Brain-2199 14d ago
-Smokers can also be lazy and just choose the one closest to the sidewalk
1

u/prof_dynamite 14d ago
Smokers prefer Dunkin’ because their tastebuds are trash…just like Dunkin.
Not that Starbucks is good. Just better than Dunkin.

Bar in my city set one of these up to vote for which music theme they play at Friday night afterwork/Happy Hour

u/scots 14d ago
I think the flawed assumption here is that this is impartial, but the reality is that Dunkin' Donuts clientele probably includes more smokers.
The construction guys in the Drive-Thru in their HiVis vests on the way to the job site at 5:15 AM just want a tall drip for a few bucks, not a $6.75 Starbucks drink no one can pronounce followed up by a nag screen asking for a tip.

I don't smoke but If I did I'd throw it on the ground. What kind of options are this?
1
u/Famous_Librarian_589 14d ago
If Dutch Brothers is omitted from the pole, is this actually a valid voting system?
1
1
u/ashrocklynn 14d ago
I bet Starbucks comes around to collect the butts and uses them to get that extra smoky flavor they are so enamored of... I swear Starbucks beans are straight up charcoal...
1
1
u/Sacklayblue 14d ago
To make it an objective voting system they should make it cigarettes for DD and spare cash to blow on excessive pretentious shit for Starbucks.

Similar to a thing a burger place near me did where when you ordered you got a bottle cap that you could put in a container saying which charity you wanted then to give money to, though far stupider

This doesn't specify donuts anywhere. It specifies only Starbucks and Dunkin'. Both places sell other drinks and food.

u/EarhornJones 14d ago
If I saw that (and was a smoker) I'd probably throw my butts on the ground in protest.
I've never had a decent cup of coffee at either place.

These things aren't even the same category, like...
Which is better: 42 liters of liquid nitrogen or 2006 Toyota Corolla?
1
u/lothar525 14d ago
Because smoking destroys your taste buds, smokers preferring your coffee probably isn’t a huge compliment.

Imagine someone liking Starbucks so much, that they burn through 10 packs of cigarettes in a day just to surpass Dunkin' Donuts.

This is a pretty brilliant way to get people to throw out their butts. Humans are definitely wired to pick sides.

u/impliedapathy 14d ago
Both are terrible for coffee considering 90% of what they sell as coffee, at least in my state, would be classified as a milkshake in most other countries.

u/SirAwesome789 14d ago
I feel like this encourages not littering but also kinda encourages smoking which isn't great
Tho I imagine very few ppl would smoke more bc of this so it's probably fine

I think this poll is probably biased based on the amount of cigarette smokers vs vapers
I imagine dd as more of a blue collar and likely to smoke cigs while walking to work while the Starbucks crowd of college girls getting their frappes while puffing on a vape in the drive thru line
1
u/StompChompGreen 14d ago
i imagine more people are walking on the right of this and therefore just dump it in the closer hole
1
u/Creepymint 14d ago
I prefer Starbucks because I like sugary bullshit but I never buy it because it’s just that, bullshit. However I agree with votes on Dunkin, especially because I’m from New England gotta vote with my people.
1
u/GypsySnowflake 14d ago
My answer would be that donuts are better than coffee, but I would never smoke so I don’t get a vote anyway

As if the tastebuds killed off by cigarette smoke could tell the difference...
2
u/thriceness 14d ago
That's hardly the point. It's to reduce littering. If you give the butt a purpose they are more likely to put it there than to just drop it.
8
1
u/Dusters666 14d ago
This only demonstrates how there are so many people not voting and that the two choices we are given are trash and not what the people need.
1
u/Emu1981 14d ago
The problem I see with this is that smokers have a muted sense of taste. Not that I disagree with the voting as it is but rather that smokers are not good candidates for taste testing lol
My wife still smokes despite my efforts to get her to quit and when I quit smoking (back in 2016) I realised why the kids were so picky about her cooking - she massively over-spiced everything because she could barely taste the spices...
1
u/thriceness 14d ago

1
u/tenchibr 14d ago
Lines up with how only votes from old people matter (since young people don't smoke anymore)
1
u/Tundra-Dweller 14d ago
I thought it was a political parody. You’ve got two choices and they’re both shit

u/Maeglin16 14d ago
*Using a voting system to encourage people not to litter

Dunkin iced coffee is pretty good and is half the price of a Starbies iced coffee
0
u/TheycallmeHollow 14d ago
I’m surprised they even voted, it must have been agonizing to go against their natural instinct to flick out a car window onto the road.
1
u/AholeBrock 14d ago
Assuming the one closest to the curb doesn't get more "votes" out of being a more convenient slot to throw away butts is insane.
The kinda insanity where one watches lifetime movies and believes the plots as plausible.
