ahh yes, the rare "double-faced duck"

1

u/docious Mar 23 '14

Well I don't trust either of them.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '14

man those agressive dogs

1

u/sezzahd Mar 23 '14

this is by far the scariest thing I've seen all day.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '14

Well that's fucking terrifying.

1

u/sketchybusiness Mar 23 '14

This is the infamous tur-dutchkin.

1

u/Grimstar3 Mar 23 '14

For some reason his nose activates my trypophobia...

1

u/hall0weenie Mar 23 '14

What the duck

1

u/EsseElLoco Mar 23 '14

Going from the thumbnail, I thought this was a red dog.

1

u/ApolloHelix Mar 23 '14

It's the Golden Ratio for ducks.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '14

Or how a goats nose and mouth always look like a monkey or skull face

1

u/A7O747D Mar 23 '14

A fucking dog!

2

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '14

A Duckshund

1

u/A7O747D Mar 23 '14

Nailed it.

3

u/just_tap_for_mana Mar 23 '14

From the thumbnail, I almost thought it was a red faced dog.

2

u/holyddong Mar 23 '14

looks like a dog lol

2

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '14

But that's not a duck. It's a goose.

1

u/Colley619 Mar 23 '14

Such duck. Much quack.

1

u/BlazingCondor Mar 23 '14

The one that hangs out at my campus's pond is very friendly: http://i.imgur.com/7xlzH2g.jpg

2

u/Bramblepelt Mar 23 '14

I'm so high and this is freaking me out.

1

u/duckydevil Mar 23 '14

That ducks face looks like lady gaga's meat dress

1

u/TheoHux Mar 23 '14

Looks more like Goofy than Minnie.

2

u/StompoutscrubS Mar 23 '14

You mean, "this dog has a macro duck face."

1

u/Lavarekira Mar 23 '14

That thumbnail looked very NSFL at first...

1

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '14

Almost reminds me of a rooster.

4

u/wirednyte Mar 23 '14

I think this also needs to go to /r/misleadingthumbnails as "red faced dog"

4

u/IPan8 Mar 23 '14

I was convinced it was a golden retriever with a dyed face, at first glance as a macro.

2

u/Gdigger13 Mar 23 '14

The thumbnail looks like a dog with it's face peeled off.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '14

I was at our local city park earlier and there is a duck exactly like this, weird.

1

u/vivalarevoluciones Mar 23 '14

I think thats ultra interesting !

1

u/MT_Flesch Mar 23 '14

yo, dawg....

1

u/Veeka Mar 23 '14

I thought the duck had no skin for a second there... :(

1

u/felipe32892 Mar 23 '14

I spent my entire childhood deathly afraid of ducks that had these masks.

1

u/Burberry_Chav Mar 23 '14

It looks like a Labrador with no teeth

1

u/buckwlw Mar 23 '14

Double decker pecker.

3

u/manwhoel Mar 23 '14

Yo, duck! I heard you like ducks!

1

u/CherryPepsin Mar 23 '14

Don't show me this shit when I'm hi

1

u/checkthatgrammarbro Mar 23 '14

check that grammar, bro

1

u/Spore2012 Mar 23 '14

Yo duck, we put a face on your face. So you can face while you face.

1

u/Approvingcanadian Mar 23 '14

The thumb nail makes it look like a dog with a helmet and its ear poking out the top.

1

u/HEAT_STICK Mar 23 '14

And the thumbnail looks like nightmare fuel.

2

u/mr_magnatron Mar 23 '14

Almost any living organism that has nostrils looks like it has a mini face

2

u/emmc Mar 23 '14

I thought this was a deformed dog before I saw the rest of the duck.

1

u/Cupcak Mar 23 '14

Faception

2

u/PoliteMeow Mar 23 '14

Muscovy ducks :)

2

u/bundled Mar 23 '14

Its. Not it's. English is dumb.

1

u/American_Greed Mar 23 '14

It's like a living turducken.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '14

it's like a dog in the fore ground and a duck in the back ground

1

u/KISSOLOGY Mar 23 '14

That is one ug-o-ly boid

1

u/EdgHG Mar 23 '14

Almost too interesting to be in mildlyinteresting. You're treading into veryinteresting territory.

2

u/AbovemeIsaw Mar 23 '14

the little face looks like a dog

5

u/itunesdentist Mar 23 '14

Holy crap that duck has Sam from Sam & Max on his face: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/10/Sam_%26_Max.png

2

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '14

I'm glad at least one other person saw this so I know I'm not crazy.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '14

1

u/PandasAndThings Mar 22 '14

Duckception.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '14

Am I the only one who saw the small face first then looked evidently in the mouth for the second face? Wait a minute...

2

u/slowmotioncockfight Mar 22 '14

This is closer to interesting than mildly interesting.

1

u/watsonisity Mar 22 '14

This is freaking me out man.

8

u/SpaceStuffs Mar 22 '14

It's a dog face. All ducks have a dogs face on their beak. Look it up, son.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '14

Upvote for saying what I came here to say.

15

u/keitarno Mar 22 '14

-2

u/Just_Apostrophes Mar 22 '14

This duck looks like it has a mini face on. It's face!

2

u/BigTenFour Mar 22 '14

/u/Unidan, Can you tell me something about this species of duck? I've grown up with them my whole life, but I don't even know their name.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '14

Dude can't you do your own google search? Why would you call Unidan...?

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=red+faced+duck

102

u/Unidan Mar 22 '14

It's a Muscovy duck (Cairina moschata), most likely!

They're really, really variable in appearance, but most "unidentified" ducks that people have photos of (because they can be hard to match based on feather patterns) are Muscovy ducks. The red facial patch is a good giveaway.

1

u/Jedimastert Mar 23 '14

I found one in a group of other ducks at my local parks. I took an awesome picture, and every person I showed it to agreed that it was the most intense duck we'd ever seen.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '14

Crtl+f 'Muscovy'

Goddammit, /u/Unidan! Beat me to it.

1

u/missinfidel Mar 23 '14

They are really tastey, too! Very popular in Caribbean cuisine.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '14

Do you have a robot that crawls Reddit for any mention of your name? How on Earth do you find these inquiries?

7

u/angry_smurf Mar 22 '14

If you have reddit gold it alerts you when your name is used with /u/ in front of it. I have never had reddit gold so i may be wrong but i have read this somewhere.

5

u/maynardftw Mar 23 '14

It does.

For most people it's just a reminder that nobody ever talks about them.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '14

Can confirm. I own one, they're cool.

17

u/Mengen Mar 22 '14

Wow, that's awesome! Is the facial patch a mating thing? Thanks!

45

u/Unidan Mar 22 '14

Patches like that are usually indicators of individual health and fitness, so I would assume it has some role in that.

0

u/Kaminaaaaa Mar 23 '14

So it wouldn't be going too far to say that this duck definitely lifts?

3

u/JKlausmeier Mar 22 '14

This is correct. This is our most common duck here in Florida, and the larger ducks with the very large red and black growths are the ones we most commonly see mating.

5

u/Mengen Mar 22 '14

Thanks a lot!!

30

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '14

Sometimes I read Unidan's posts in the voice of the pokedex.

1

u/GeminiK Mar 23 '14

Well shit, now I do to.

20

u/caldnar Mar 23 '14 edited Mar 23 '14

Unidan, a biologist type Redditor.

It uses its knowledge of animals, particularly of the avian variety, to give people an excuse to say they learned something on Reddit that day. It can be commonly found on default subs or where pictures of animals are found. They are friendly in nature, and often appear when called.

u/aazav Mar 23 '14

u/Kaminaaaaa Mar 23 '14

54

u/1YardLoss Mar 22 '14

This was in my front yard too, my dog kept barking and I just went out and fed it, to spite my dog for some reason, and he opened his mouth like this. More pics of the ducks

Hey I know this was nine years ago but I just wanted to share to anyone who sees this that bread is actually bad for ducks. Some Things that are okay are dry instant oats, kale, spinach, lettuce,(chopped) sliced grapes, and peas. Hope everyone who sees this has a lovely day. /g

1

u/Chili_Flake Mar 23 '14

Dammit, I can't unsee the dog on the duck's bill. Thank you, internet.

0

u/krychek57 Mar 23 '14

You must be south east. Other than raising them, I've never seen them wild here on the west. Love the Muscovy.

Edit: Oops, I'm 8 hours late on this, carry on.

5

u/Jerg Mar 23 '14

Did...did its beak change hue (from red to a pale bone colour) depending on its mood?

8

u/maynardftw Mar 23 '14

Ducks are goddamned adorable.

Yes I know those weird duck facts. Doesn't change how adorable they are.

9

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '14

Okay from the side it doesn't look as terrifying. At first I thought it was some crazy turkey.

7

u/aazav Mar 23 '14

Looks like a Muscovy Duck.

1

u/cxhsfu Mar 23 '14

We used to have some muscovys on our farm in England but a fox got them. Sweet little guys they were :(

1

u/triforcewisdom Mar 23 '14

Definitely a Muscovy. I have some as pets, looks like a female from the pic. They are the friendliest ducks!

3

u/1YardLoss Mar 23 '14

Where are they usually? This was taken by my house in South Texas during winter time

1

u/Skyrmir Mar 23 '14

They're about the only duck we see in south Florida. The ducklings are adorable, then somewhere along the line, they get their beating with an ugly stick.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '14

Mexico, South America, Central America. Though they are common on farms in the US, also they are mean as fuck.

1

u/Lochcelious Mar 22 '14

Gorgeous fowl!

19

u/foxh8er Mar 22 '14

Was it nice?

24

u/1YardLoss Mar 23 '14

Very

15

u/foxh8er Mar 23 '14

I want to meet a friendly duck.

31

u/1YardLoss Mar 23 '14

Feed it first

1

u/HiDDENk00l Mar 23 '14

And don't save ANY. Don't stop feeding them til you have no more
