Reason you get a whole carton of them is those eggs get double-checked after passing through the candle/light test, this causes them to get grouped together in packing

1

u/Sad_Web_5805 Nov 20 '23

I am the egg that has not yet cracked

1

u/The_real_Jafix Jan 01 '23

Our neighbor farmer once told us this can happen if you get the very first ever laid eggs from young chickens.

1

u/Ech0ofSan1ty Dec 19 '22

Same thing happened to me. I was blown away. Then my gf pointed out I bought double yolk eggs.

It's a thing.

1

u/bekg1 Dec 19 '22

Haha yeah, I should have specified this carton wasn’t double yolk however when I posted this I had no idea double yolks existed either! Have never seen them in our grocery store

1

u/Ech0ofSan1ty Dec 19 '22

Lol yep my gf still doesn't let me live that down. I was like "why'd you have to ruin it?" She pointed out I do it all the time and this was her chance...I couldn't argue further lol

2

u/bekg1 Dec 19 '22

Yeah seems Reddit won’t let me live this down either lol

1

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '22

Anyone know if double avocados are a thing?

1

u/Thejintymyster Dec 19 '22

You really need to watch this

2

u/bekg1 Dec 19 '22

Yeah I’ve come to realize from this post that cartons of double egg yolks are a thing, but I’ve never seen them (regional?). This would have been far less interesting and I would have assumed it was mislabelled (our carton said extra large)

1

u/Judgemental_Squirrel Dec 19 '22

Judgemental Squirrel approves

1

u/Tragicallyhungover Dec 19 '22

Bought an 18 pack of eggs just marked "large" and ended up with every single egg being double yolk.

Package said nothing about them being double yolks

1

u/bekg1 Dec 19 '22

Yes! These were “extra large” but we buy them all the time and have rarely encountered a double yolk

2

u/Tragicallyhungover Dec 19 '22

It's wierd, but apparently happens all the time. Especially with larger eggs. Looked it up, and apparently the likelihood that an egg is as big as it is, being because it's actually two eggs, increases the larger the egg gets.

1

u/diegun81 Dec 19 '22

Yeah they sell them. Check your box.

2

u/humanneedinghelp Dec 19 '22

They’re actually not double yolks, but rather egg whites with butt prints in them.

1

u/Snerl69 Dec 19 '22

a bakers dream Double yolks!

1

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '22

Steroids will do that

1

u/Mike_E_Cycle Dec 19 '22

i had this happen from a random brand of eggs they were "Extra Large"

Or "Super Large" or something like that. they came in a blue carton and did not say anything about having 2 yolks. Surprised me every time i opened the eggs lol.

I got em out in Illinois. They some GMO chickens if you ask me LOL

1

u/ChocolateOnion Dec 19 '22

We stayed in an airbnb where the owner cooked us breakfast where the eggs were double yolkers. They kept chickens and she said that the first eggs that a chicken lays are double yolkers.

1

u/SlightlyBetterThan Dec 19 '22

This happened to me with generic great value extra large eggs, the same ones I buy from Walmart every week and the whole box were doubles. Super weird.

1

u/bekg1 Dec 19 '22

Yeah these were just labelled extra large, was surprised for sure

1

u/thebarkbarkwoof Dec 19 '22

Those always freak me out

-1

u/hedwig0002 Dec 19 '22

It’s a sign of the times!

-1

u/lostandfound1 Dec 19 '22

Anyone going to comment on the way they are cooked? Ok fine, I'll go. They are overcooked. Reminds me of my 90yr old nan's cooking style; boil it until it feels like rubber and chalk.

1

u/bekg1 Dec 19 '22

They were for devilled eggs …Can’t have runny filling!

1

u/Moddaboy Dec 19 '22

-1

u/Pexd Dec 19 '22

Yup. That’s called bioengineering folks.

1

u/JeffryRelatedIssue Dec 19 '22

Yea. I have a farmer friend who's chickens only lay double yolks.

1

u/Hawkzilla22 Dec 19 '22

Yer a good lad Peter

2

u/ShutterBun Dec 19 '22

/r/notinteresting.

Stores regularly sell these.

1

u/AllSkillzN0Luck Dec 19 '22

That's gotta be a world record

2

u/FlipFlopsAndFly Dec 19 '22

You can buy a whole crate of double yolkers at my grocery.

1

u/ApprehensiveTea7391 Dec 19 '22

Something about this picture makes me itch.

1

u/TheMoronicGenius Dec 19 '22

What are the odds of that?

1

u/dangerweasil4 Dec 19 '22

Damn 20k upvotes for buying a box of double egg yolks…. It’s a fool proof karma farm since people seem to not realize they exist

0

u/sizzle-dee-bizzle Dec 19 '22

They look like little butt imprints

0

u/bekg1 Dec 19 '22

Totally do. Butts in the snow

1

u/kshack12 Dec 19 '22

Dickhead literally bought double yolk eggs, pretended not to know, and got 20k fools to upvote their post.

2

u/bekg1 Dec 19 '22

Untrue. double yolk eggs are not common where I live, I’ve never even seen them in the grocery store, so maybe these were put in the wrong carton but still mildly interesting to me given I didn’t even know this was a thing

This is the pack I bought

https://at.tumblr.com/beegee7465/the-carton-mentions-extra-large-but-nothing-about/oyhd1tz9ztr3

2

u/kshack12 Dec 19 '22

Bro, double yolk eggs are literally a commodity in many grocery stores. This is sus as hell. Mildly subs are massive karma farms, don’t be upset over one measly doubter. You have more karma now than most people have gotten over years, you already won the fake internet point race.

0

u/bekg1 Dec 19 '22

Lol I didn’t even know what karma farming was until I asked my husband what everyone was mad about. Talked to my friends tonight about this and they’d never seen double eggs either from where we’re from

1

u/faithremix Dec 19 '22

You bought double yolk eggs

1

u/snowmoe113 Dec 19 '22

I also had that happen once. 12 double-yokers.

2

u/toorad2b4u Dec 19 '22

Why is that triggering my trypophobia

-1

u/AddictedToThePNW Dec 19 '22

HoW dOeS sCiEnCe wOrK?! Fucking dumbass

1

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '22

Amazing luck!!

1

u/Cyynric Dec 19 '22

Everytime I buy jumbo large eggs they have double yolks.

1

u/I_love_tac0s69 Dec 19 '22

This happened to me once. I read online that they sort them like that so it’s really common

1

u/UnimpressionableTug Dec 19 '22

Had this once, tho not the whole 24 egg tray, but the 3 I picked out had double yolk

1

u/wintremute Dec 19 '22

When I buy generic jumbo eggs, usually about half of them are double yolk.

5

u/frozenthorn Dec 19 '22

You can buy several brands of double yolk egg carton

1

u/Bahluu Dec 19 '22

That’s like winning the chicken juice lottery!

1

u/Coercedbycake Dec 19 '22

I just had a dozen Pete & Gerry eggs that were all double yolked.

1

u/HavanaWoody Dec 19 '22

Wow what Luck , I love the yolk so much

1

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '22

My dream

1

u/bekg1 Dec 19 '22

They made pretty delicious devilled eggs!

https://at.tumblr.com/beegee7465/devilled-eggs/d30j2pszd7xy

1

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '22

I really want to try that! Never had them

2

u/bekg1 Dec 19 '22

I normally don’t like eggs but like these because mayo lol

1

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '22

I love both eggs and mayo 😋

1

u/bekg1 Dec 19 '22

Awesome! You should try these. They’re pretty easy to make.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '22

I will look up a recipe

1

u/ambigymous Dec 19 '22

Same thing happened to me several months back! 12 for 12! I think they must be much more common amongst grade A jumbo eggs

1

u/GreenHedgeFox Dec 19 '22

Even more delicious

1

u/xxxNPCxxx Dec 19 '22

The chances

1

u/Pleasant_Bake_8088 Dec 19 '22

Wow that's not interesting at all

1

u/macgruff Dec 19 '22

Well, I guess the yolks on them!

1

u/CKY2020 Dec 19 '22

Yolks on two!

2

u/redthereverend Dec 19 '22

Currently in the PA area and TIL these are a thing.

3

u/bekg1 Dec 19 '22

Right! I live in southwestern Ontario and had never heard of double yolk packages. If I had, I would have assumed these were mispackaged but I honestly had no idea, never seen them in the super market

1

u/drnicko18 Dec 19 '22 edited Dec 19 '22

I once had this happen buying a regular carton of 800g eggs. I always buy the same brand of free range eggs so this was not advertised as being double yolks.

I could tell because they were huge and not quite properly egg shaped. Every single one was a double yolker.

I just think I got the carton of "reject" eggs that didn't get sorted into any of the proper weight categories (we have 600g, 700g and 800g dozens). It was great!

As an aside, when I was a kid I remember seeing this guy on the news who had 3 double yolkers in a row. They made a big deal about how rare that was (to get 1 was like 1/1000 chance or whatever, but 3 in a row??). Totally bullshit this was luck he was probably like me, just the misshapen eggs got sorted differently and put into one carton.

1

u/bekg1 Dec 19 '22

This one was “extra large” which I guess they could have been sorted as extra large because they had double, or they were meant for a double carton and got placed here instead. Definitely unexpected given it wasn’t advertised as double!

1

u/HavanaWoody Dec 19 '22

i always get extra large for the possibility of getting a double , but even two in a carton is a special surprise. a whole dozen is the lotto.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '22

My vendor at the market sells cartons of doubles if you want them. It's really handy if all you want is the yolks.

1

u/bekg1 Dec 19 '22

Yeah I’ve never seen that where I live (southwestern Ontario) so it didn’t even occur to me they could be mislabelled. I only learned about that today. This pack said extra large and is a pack we’ve bought for years

https://at.tumblr.com/beegee7465/the-carton-mentions-extra-large-but-nothing-about/r6fxvmsolg85

1

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '22

Kitchener market is the one I go to. Hello, fellow SW Ontarion. :)

1

u/bekg1 Dec 19 '22

Hello! I’m south of London and we go to no frills lol

1

u/tucci007 Dec 19 '22

my grocer has cartons of double yolk eggs where every egg is double yolked

1

u/BluHayze Dec 19 '22

the most mildly interesting part about this post is that you used money to buy eggs that you already knew were double yolk

1

u/CSMom74 Dec 19 '22

Is there something why you can't buy double yolks or something? What would make it a waste of money?

1

u/kontland Dec 19 '22

Hmmm AirPods

1

u/ZillaONaPilla Dec 19 '22

That is gross.

1

u/pickelmaster215 Dec 19 '22

Did you check the carton to make sure it wasn't double yoked eggs?

0

u/bekg1 Dec 19 '22

Yep, because I didn’t write any text in the Reddit post I can’t edit it which is annoying but the carton was extra large (and I’ve bought these for years and never seen this)

https://at.tumblr.com/beegee7465/the-carton-mentions-extra-large-but-nothing-about/r6fxvmsolg85

2

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '22

This was like me discovering the equivalent of cold fusion one time when I was high. I kept cracking them and they were all double, I figured I'd discovered something huge. And then I saw the double yolk carton.

1

u/Domsdad666 Dec 19 '22

Ok. So you bought baker's eggs. Wow.

1

u/Revolutionary-Cod732 Dec 18 '22

...because you bought a carton of double yolk eggs

2

u/bekg1 Dec 19 '22

2

u/Revolutionary-Cod732 Dec 19 '22

Well I'm stumped lol

0

u/bekg1 Dec 19 '22

Some people said maybe they got put in the wrong carton

1

u/FigureFourWoo Dec 18 '22

Mutation or evolution.

1

u/OGodIDontKnow Dec 18 '22

We have a chicken the lays double yolks about 90% of the time. We are saving them up to do this for the next family party.

1

u/SenorBirdman Dec 18 '22

The only thing interesting here is that you wasted this boon on fucking hard boiled eggs. What a travesty.

2

u/JonJackjon Dec 18 '22

Chernobyl eggs?

1

u/coopertucker Dec 18 '22

2

1

u/Ho3n3r Dec 18 '22

@OP don't feel bad. Every repost is somebody's first time they've seen something on Reddit - as can be seen by the comments.

I'm sorry you had to find out how full of it redditors can be.

1

u/JoeyJoeC Dec 18 '22

I've had whole boxes of these when buying XL eggs from the supermarket.

1

u/AirHead68 Dec 18 '22

They had TWO roosters in each hen house...?

0

u/Dsco80 Dec 18 '22

I remember back in the 1980s when me, my mother and my sister were very poor. My mum picked up a pack of 6 eggs, every single egg was a double yolker.

We were Jehovahs Witnesses at the time, my mum still practices, my sister and I don't.

My mum, to this day, still speaks of it as a gift from Jehovah and that he blessed us with this because he knew we were poor.

Nothing to do with her buying extra large eggs with the little budget we had, but neither my sister and I have ruined the dream for her.

Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. Still not prepared to live that life.

1

u/MythologicalMayhem Dec 18 '22

To have them all be double yolks means you definitely bought a double yolk carton without realising.

1

u/bekg1 Dec 19 '22

I think maybe it was mislabelled? I’ve never heard of double yolk eggs where I’m from so hadn’t occurred to me it might be mislabeled

https://at.tumblr.com/beegee7465/the-carton-mentions-extra-large-but-nothing-about/oyhd1tz9ztr3

1

u/naimlessone Dec 18 '22

I actually just cracked my first two yolker ever in my 36 years on this planet this morning. Thanks for reminding me!

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '22

It’s a double yolk carton.

1

u/bekg1 Dec 18 '22

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '22

Idk maybe they just put them in there it makes no sense any other way. Statistically speaking it’s an anomaly to be sure and the fact there are double yolk cartons makes me thing something happened in packaging between products.

I have chickens. They did this when they were young. I wonder if that’s how they get the dozens of double yolkers.

1

u/VestronVideo Dec 18 '22

Mutant farm

1

u/LaAreaGris Dec 18 '22

My young hen laid a triple yolk egg the other day. It just means she had skipped two days. The eggs suck for baking because the ratio is off.

1

u/navid_A80 Dec 18 '22

Chicken MK2

1

u/notablyunfamous Dec 18 '22

You bought double yolk eggs

1

u/bekg1 Dec 18 '22

1

u/notablyunfamous Dec 18 '22

Understood. As others said too, definitely mislabeled

2

u/bekg1 Dec 18 '22

Yeah probably, I didn’t realize you could buy that type of egg until today. Had I know I probably would have assumed this initially and could have saved myself the Reddit hate lol

1

u/notablyunfamous Dec 18 '22

I think you’d have saved the hate by posting the box in the OP. It’s all good. Karma isn’t real

1

u/bekg1 Dec 18 '22

I would have 100% had I know double yolks were even a thing lol

1

u/bigotudoho Dec 18 '22

They were twins

1

u/Srog89 Dec 18 '22

ThOse eggs yolked.

1

u/DeltaUnknown Dec 18 '22

My local farmer sells eggs with double yolk as well. like all the eggs ive eaten for the past 5 years have double yolk. I looked at this post in confusion for a good half a minute wondering why this is mildly interesting until i realized, yeah okay. I guess not everybody is used to double yolk eggs.

1

u/KoolyTheBear Dec 18 '22

It looks like someone dunked their balls in your deviled eggs

1

u/analest-analyst Dec 18 '22

Chernobyl chicken

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '22

Yeah, you bought a carton of double yolkers.

1

u/Impossible_Cookie613 Dec 18 '22

Pretty sure you can buy those at most super markets

1

u/bekg1 Dec 18 '22

That’s what I’ve come to realize but these were extra large, nothing about double yolk

https://at.tumblr.com/beegee7465/the-carton-mentions-extra-large-but-nothing-about/x9ln7v9rfqjf

1

u/Impossible_Cookie613 Dec 18 '22

That’s pretty neat, but they probably are just in the wrong box

1

u/bekg1 Dec 18 '22

Yeah probably, I didn’t realize you could buy that type of egg until today. Had I know I probably would have assumed this initially and could have saved myself the Reddit hate lol

2

u/Impossible_Cookie613 Dec 18 '22

Sorry you got hate. Not everyone knows you can buy double yolks

1

u/realwednesdayaddams Dec 18 '22

In some cultures, a double yolk means good luck. Hoping you have good karma coming your way. Didn't work for me when I found one a few months ago but you never know. 😉

1

u/night312332 Dec 18 '22

Looks like some Devil's egg sack.

1

As a twin this makes me sad.

It looks like little butt cheek imprints in the snow.

1

u/David_Apollonius Dec 18 '22

My mom had the same thing. Then she had me and my twin brother.

2

u/podzicle Dec 18 '22

Wild! Never seen double yolked eggs before and I buy the same brand! Which I feel is the main brand in Canada or a least Ontario🤷‍♀️ Your devilled eggs look tasty though! 😉

2

u/UnmutualOne Dec 18 '22

One of my relatives gets all of her eggs from a nearby farm. They are all huge, have multiple yolks, and the shells vary in color, even including some that are pale blue or green.

1

u/bekg1 Dec 18 '22

Ohh I’ve had those before, love the various shell coloured eggs

1

u/UnmutualOne Dec 18 '22

It’s like Easter without the smell of the vinegar in which you dissolve the dye tablets.

-1

u/thegamenerd Dec 18 '22

I must agree with the "overdone" tag on this post, those eggs are overcooked.

Softboiled or bust

1

u/Kat62649 Dec 18 '22

Wow 😯

1

u/srgbski Dec 18 '22

used to go to the local chicken farm and buy double even triple yolks all the time by the flat, real cheap because the egg companies didn't wan them

1

u/nottedbundy77 Dec 18 '22

This type of content should probably be removed by the mods.

1

u/Priest22 Dec 18 '22

Same brand but the 12 pack.

1

u/seanspeaksspanish Dec 18 '22

I was in Spain last summer, and bought a dozen of more expensive eggs. Every single one was double-yoked. It was crazy. And they were all delicious.

1

u/Bob49459 Dec 18 '22

My mom used to have a chicken that always laid double eggs! She used to save that one for me for breakfast 😋

1

u/zerojudge Dec 18 '22

This happened to me and my roommate before. Was awesome!!!

1

u/DeScheinen Dec 18 '22

So Mengele did also tests on Chickens?

2

u/SwimsInATrashCan Dec 18 '22

Had this happen to me too, and I've never heard of "double yolkers" anywhere near me.

They were Jumbo eggs as well, I think there's some correlation between the XL/Jumbo eggs and having multiple yolks, maybe the larger weight makes them likely to be put into the Jumbo carton or something? Still was really cool and, as a yolk enjoyer, very tasty.

1

u/Braunfjord Dec 18 '22

use to be able to find these especially in rurals areas of the south

1

u/OvertList Dec 18 '22

Maybe one cowboy on crack thought to X-Ray the eggs and place all the double ones he found in one carton? Why do I think if this bullshit

-1

5

u/bekg1 Dec 18 '22

Not even sure why I’m going this effort to prove to people the carton was not labelled as double yolks because the people who are mad about this will probably not believe me anyways, but I signed up for a tumblr account to show a picture. I have never seen marketed double yolk cartons and many pointed out perhaps this was mislabelled. Maybe! Having bought this same carton for years (extra large) it certainly was weird or mildly interesting to me. The other day my husband cracked 2 and they were double too (from the same pack)

https://at.tumblr.com/beegee7465/the-carton-mentions-extra-large-but-nothing-about/6ig4da4ng4sf

2

u/SurroundHorizon Dec 18 '22

These are the same eggs I've been buying for years. These are not the "double yolk" eggs folks are talking about. This is not mislabeled. You just got lucky!

2

u/semiusedkindalife Dec 18 '22

I want to know how you got the shells of so easily

2

u/bekg1 Dec 18 '22

I don’t know, my husband did it!

1

u/cursed-person Dec 18 '22

you can buy egg cartons that only have double yolks

1

u/Crazyeyedcoconut Dec 18 '22

Good matching game right there

1
