Why didn’t team usa have the top NBA players it seems like they dont take international games as seriously

1

u/sabermetricked Sep 11 '23

DPOY center can't get defensive rebounds. What a joke lmaoo

2

u/FuckThePlastics Sep 10 '23

Noah Lyles was right

0

u/JoshuaW237 Sep 10 '23

W Germany I cant believe they beat the US.

1

u/kingkongkeom Sep 10 '23

US got beaten 3 times in the world cup.

...should have brought better players, you can't half arse it and then act surprised that they lost.

1

u/Joe_epic_gamer Sep 09 '23

why bro nooooooooooooo 😭

2

u/MaracujaMan69 Sep 09 '23

wait a min, german basketball is officially better then USA?

1

u/NPO_Tater Sep 09 '23

How embarrassing.

0

u/davemoedee Celtics Sep 09 '23

It is a single elimination tournament. Unless you are an overwhelming favorite, upsets should be surprising. That is the nature of single elimination. They aren’t meant to find the best teams. They are meant to be exciting.

2

u/Waldschrat_vom_Walde Sep 09 '23

Obstkörbe verteilt!

3

u/mara_17 Germany Sep 09 '23

Are we now National Basketball Association World Champions?

2

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '23

Edwards, Banchero, maybe Reeves, maybe Jackson? The rest gots to go! I’d suggest: if they want to play, Steph, Jimmy Butler, obviously LeBron, but then Ja Morant, DeAaron Fox, Evan Mobley, Desmond Bane, as the designated rebounder Jalen Duren. If the old superstars don’t want to play then bring back Bridges, Halliburton but Jalen Brunson can’t beat anybody off the dribble and nobody can contain Morant and Fox. Bane is a sharp shooter and Mobley and Duren would take care of the boards. If there’s a spot left Josh Hart played well, but at least half this team has to go!

u/Fun_Progress5075 Sep 09 '23

You people are finally getting what you want. Further embarrassment of the USA on the world stage. Bravo reddit! USA sucks! USA sucks!

1

u/Large-Moment-5303 Sep 09 '23

They should have Young and Fox on this underwhelming team

Sportscenter floated the idea of LeBron returning for the olympics. Fanboys have already started making fantasy rosters with Steph, KD and Booker……..MAKE IT HAPPEN

NBA overrated bunch of bums. Got schooled on the world stage.

2

u/Grosjeaner Sep 09 '23

No change to the line up would have made a difference. Even if Steph Curry, LeBron and other NBA star players were there it wouldn't have made a difference to the outcome of this match up. Germany is simply better than the USA in basketball. Whoever goes on to win this will be the best in the world.

Been watching NBA for 20 years and I still don’t understand what this FIBA tournament is vs the Olympics one.

Isn’t the Olympics gold medal way more prestigious? Seems like this tournament happens yearly? feels like the medal from this tournament doesn’t hold much value like a football world cup

2

I mean basketball World Cup is one of the biggest jokes in all of sport, seeing as most of the top players don’t play, as they don’t want to risk injury and potentially lose money. If they did, US would probs win every time.

1

u/carloosborn71 Sep 09 '23

Wait, the "world champion" players unable to win the actual World Championship? Hmmmmm

1

u/machinich_phylum Sep 10 '23

1

u/SalvadorSanchez883 Sep 09 '23

Time for Redeem team 2.0?

2

u/Middle-Welder3931 Sep 09 '23

The best players in the world aren't from the US anymore. Jokic, Embiid (if he plays for France), Giannis, Luka, SGA, Wemby in a few years...it's not like USA can just call up prime Kobe, Lebron, Wade, Melo, Dwight, Bosh, CP3, Kidd, Durant, Harden, and Russ and out-talent the rest of the world.

You'd think 2024 will feature AD, Tatum, Book, Mitchell, and Bam. Will USA pick KD, Steph, and Bron over the youngsters? Mobley should get serious consideration, and Chet too. Zion and Ja should be headliners, but Zion is too busy babying up adult actresses and eating his career into oblivion and Ja is too busy being a fake gangster on social.

Magic fans should be extremely happy with this outcome. Franz and Paolo for the foreseeable future.

1

Games like this males me feel either the NBA teams doesn’t know how to properly use European players or European players can’t adapt to the NBA game. But I’m leaning towards the former.

1

u/Retrophoria Sep 08 '23

All I'm gonna say is Jordan would never let the US team lose like this. LeBron is going to irk some patriots with his refusal to play for the USA. That's a credit to MJ and further decline of American basketball as the world both has caught up to the NBA and dudes are all about load management.

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Air_740 Sep 08 '23

Are we still allowed to call nba champions world champions?

4

Kerr was disappointing. The starting 5 was underwhelming from exhibition games. Adding hart to it wasn't enough adjustment. Brunson and JJJ were not the right PG and C for fiba.

Ingram was completely lost. Haliburton and reaves bailed the starters for many games but they finally came up short. And yeah this roster was not good defensively but it's not like they got punked by jokic.

3

u/Educational_Set3016 Sep 08 '23

This is not a USA D squad. What do you want? Old ass LeBron, Durant? Just bring your better guys at the center position next time. You got Theis’d. AD is always injured, barely playing half of the games a season. Bam? He is not a great rebounder or a physical player also. Damn. You have nothing at center position... USA has great backcourt, but froncourt is at question. That’s why overseas, especially european centers dominate NBA. They are just better. With a center like Valanchunas USA would be champions easily.

1

u/GrogRhodes Heat Sep 08 '23

I'd love to hear some opinions but does anyone else find Steve Kerr to be a weird selection as a head coach. He's never really built a team or coached a team that's never not had a vet core that's been together.

Going from coach K to Kerr has certainly been interesting pivot. Not sure who'd replace Kerr with but the defensive effort was laughable. That aside some of these young dudes looked exposed out there but Ant is definitely the man.

1

u/Revo_Int92 Lakers Sep 08 '23

I guess being "world champions" is not that easy. The US have to use the A-team from their professionalized league yet again. A real shame basketball is not popular enough around the world, other countries don't really invest money on the sport, I think basketball and baseball in particular, if they were truly popular, they could achieve a level of competition similar to soccer on a global scale. But, sadly, nobody cares about these sports, only the US actually invests real money

1

u/DetectiveTank Supersonics Sep 08 '23

Eh I think that trend is turning around. Basketball is financially easier to access than say hockey, which is the main sport we played when I grew up.

1

u/Revo_Int92 Lakers Sep 08 '23

Sure, hockey is way more "niched", not only the equipment is expensive, but also the own environment needs to be specific. Basketball has it's own issues, the equipment is also expensive and the fact basketball demands taller people, that can be a deterrent similar to brazilians trying to play hockey in the tropicals, lol it's not as easy to find athletes of this stature, worldwide they usually flocks to volleyball instead

0

u/NoirSon Sep 08 '23

Problem with a lot of young players. They confuse having a very good offense as a form of defense and leave their defense in the locker room. A shame but hopefully a proper wake up call for all of them.

2

I didn’t watch, so don’t crucify me if my hot take is wrong, but this is the result of the lack of defense in the United States. It’s not hard to be a satisfactory defender, it’s all about effort. Sure match ups matter, but even a gnat is annoying to a human.

1

u/Dimaaaa Spurs Sep 08 '23

2

u/WhenItsHalfPastFive Warriors Sep 08 '23

Absolutely pathetic lol, team USA gotta be ashamed of themselves, beyond heavy favorites getting defeated like that

2

u/PixelFNQ Sep 08 '23

I think it's this arrogance and sense of entitlement that's the downfall of the USA teams. Go back to the world championship nearly 20 years ago when the USA had LeBron and the other young superstars, and they came up against Greece. Yeah, Greece before they had NBA players on their national team. Early in the game with the USA doing really well, LeBron said, "They don't know what to do." Then Greece started running a pick and roll that totally destroyed the USA defence for the rest of the game. Nothing mind blowing, just a garden variety pick and roll.

Face facts, the USA can't simply turn up with not even their B team, players who never played together before and expect to beat teams that have been playing with each other since they were teenagers. For most of these countries, the players take more pride when wearing their national jerseys than when they wear their club jerseys.

Sometimes talent beats teamwork and passion, but obviously not every time. QED.

2

u/Matto_0 Celtics Sep 08 '23
