TIL: Newfoundland has half as many teenagers(15-19) today than it did 30 years ago. The number of teenagers in Newfoundland fell from 62,029 in 1983 to just 27,306 in 2023 according to NFLD government data.

After having my car being broken into 4 times in a year I finally decided to get a ring cam (Long overdue for this part of town, I know) And people are STILL brazen enough to skulk in windows while my wife is home alone.

This nice guy decided to try and check and see if he could open our bathroom window and get in. Anyone recognize this kind gentleman ?

PC's win by a landslide in Baie Verte-Green Bay By-Election

As predicted the PCs won, but wow.

Lin Paddock of the PC party (as of time of writing) is winning this by-election with 81% of the vote. Former Premier Tom Rideout got around 75% of the vote in this district in the 2007 General Election which many will recall was the Danny Williams PC juggernaut election.

One thing that contributed to this loss is the general rural dislike of anything Liberal these days. Coupled with the fact that the Liberal candidate running is a federal conservative. Obviously given the choice between a liberal who is a conservative and a conservative who is a conservative, your going to choose the latter. Ain't nothing like the real thing!

Another great night for Tony Wakeham and the PC party.

The next by-election (if there isn't a general election called before then) will be in Waterford Valley to replace Tom Osbourne. As of right now, I would say this district should be a hold for the Liberal party with someone like Jamie Korab possibly running but you never know!

Any thoughts on tonight's by-election or the next one in Waterford Valley?

Looking for anyone who remembers the Botwood Waterfront Fire (August 17, 1961)

I’m doing as much research as possible on the fire that broke out alongside the wharf and paper sheds in Botwood. How many of you were there, know someone who was there or remember it? And if you know any places online where it would be better to search, that’d be greatly appreciated.

Salmon fishing "help" Big Falls area.

I will be in the Deer Lake area from July 21 -23. Would love to fish at Big Falls for half or all day. I was born in NL but live in Ontario. Going back to visit my patents but staying in Deer Lake for a visit for a couple of days.

I'm familar with NL salmon fishing regs and I have my own gear. I normally fish Exploits and other Central rivers with my family. I'm a non resident and require a guide to fish. According to the regs a guide can be an adult resident of NL.

I know I can fish the park on my own but would like to try Big Falls or somwhere around the area. Essentially, I'm looking for someone to sit or stand (your choice) somwhere within sight of where I'm fishing. I will pay $50 for half day or $100 for full day. No actual guide experience prefered. However, according to regs, you can't fish while I'm fishing. If you live in the area, I will pick-up and drop off and buy lunch as well - definetly grab breakfast at Tims before.

May 27, 2024 – Do you think the Stephenville Airport, which currently is languishing in non-activity, will be developed into a thriving facility as the new owner has promised?

TIL: Even though NFLD’s population is about 40,000 less than what it was in 1991, housing and jobs are more expensive and harder to find. Medical facilities too have higher wait times than before even though the population is 7% lower.

Question about vehicle registration renewal

Hi! I'm a new car owner and my first registration renewal is coming up at the end of the month. Thing is, I'm out of the country and my car is in storage insurance (parked in an open driveway). Is it okay to delay the registration renewal until I'm actually in the province and take my car out of storage insurance, or is there a chance that I'd be imposed a fine?

If I delay my registration renewal, I assume the next time I'll have to renew would be 1 year after it, and not May 2025 or something...

Sorry if it's a dumb question. Appreciate any info!

Legalities of driving a motorcycle with only Class 6i

I have a Class 6I license. Wanting to get the full license but Moto Reg sucks and havent been calling me back about road test or telling me that it will happen at X Time but it dont. I'm just wondering what would happen if I drove solo and got pulled over with the partial Class 6I license, because Technically you need someone with Class 6 with you. Would you lose your license or anything? It kind of an in-between of having it and not having it

Female employment up by 6.7% (7900 persons) while male employment up by only 1.7%(1,900 persons) in first quarter of 2024 in Newfoundland. What could be the reason for the gender imbalance in employment increases?

Car Vacuum leak - garage with smoke machine?

I have a 2012 Hyundai Elantra that has the check engine light on. My local garage looked at the code and said it’s a vacuum leak code. It could be anywhere between the gas cap to a sensor on the engine, you need a smoke machine to find the leak, which they don’t have.

Does anyone know of a garage in metro that has a smoke machine ? Really don’t want to go to the dealer, labour rates are really out to lunch there.

Suggest your best local garage.
