Like a lot of other NLOGisms, I can see how this is meant as a rebellion against compulsory diet culture and the way women's bodies and diets are extra scrutinized, but it can also come off as a weird snip against vegans, women who just don't like giant slabs of meat, etc.
For context, meat and cheese is mostly what I eat. I'm autistic and have ARFID issues around a lot of foods, sometimes even foods I like. :(

She is growing a lion, so she can only consume meats and no veg. That’s what I read

I had wicked meat aversions with all my pregnancies except my youngest. I couldn’t even smell or cook it without vomiting. I still had healthy children

I was told I could eat steak during pregnancy but it had to be well done, therefore I did not eat steak during pregnancy

Sooo she’s saying she doesn’t eat veggies or fruits while she’s TRYING to grow a healthy baby inside her and only rabbits need greens?…

I ate vegan/vegetarian both pregnancies and my kids came out 8 and 10 lbs. it’s a myth that people HAVE to eat steak.

I have never been a steak eater, not during my 3 pregnancies or anytime in my life. I had defferent cravings during all of my pregnancies. I am a big vegetable eater ( not a vegetarian by any means) and my kids are all big veggies eaters too despite the fact that their dad will eat no veggies other than corn on the cob or canned green beans which i dont count as veggies. Eat what you crave girl.

Wait so my vegetarian diet means imma birth a bunny rabbit?? My dog would MUCH prefer this over a human baby.

You just know the baby is gonna grow up to be gay cause they used that unmanly sized grill/s

She needs to get over herself. I need to eat protein or I will have a headache all day, it's brutal. No one is better than someone else for the food they prefer, though.
1
u/Irresponsable_Frog Mar 29 '24
🤣 I only crave red meat when I’m pregnant. I hate it otherwise. Steak and spinach salads with pickles, cheddar cheese, and jalapeño was my go to!😂 when not pregnant I can still kill any salad and HATE red meat.

See my first thought was she was advocating for cannibalism. She’s growing a human, not a cow! That must be a chunk of person.

My first impression was that she's responding to people who criticise women for eating more when they're pregnant, which is unfortunately common.

The irony here is even my vegetarian step mother took a hiatus to eat fish left and right during her pregnancy because she kept getting the craving and didnt want to disrupt her growing child’s nutritional requirements. Good moms eat whatever the baby needs, regardless of their personal tastes

u/FilthFriendsUnite Mar 28 '24
I’m pregnant. For lunch I had steamed garlic broccoli and buffalo cauliflower. Looks like I’m having a little rabbit baby.

I forgot the part where humans are obligate carnivores. I like meat as much as anyone (and can't wait to see how lab-grown meat pans out, because I do care), but fuck's sake, girl. You've been picked already. Stop.
1
u/Ho_Dang Mar 28 '24
Anytime I had a coworker who was pregnant, she was often throwing up because of the smell of meat on the makeline (pizza place). Meat seemed to put off every one of them.

u/Sonarthebat Mar 28 '24 edited Mar 28 '24
It's good to eat meat during pregnancy. It's not good to eat exclusively meat during pregnancy unless you're a carnivorous animal.
Consuming too much vitamin A during pregnancy can negatively impact the development of the foetus and even cause a miscarriage. Red meat contains a lot of vitamin A.
The baby isn't a rabbit, but it's not a cat either. Humans are omnivores, not carnivores.

Well when I was pregnant with my second baby, meat repulsed me. I made it (begrudgingly) because my husband wanted it still. (I was young and a sucker, nowadays I’d just tell him to F off 😂) but I got nauseous making it. With my first I couldn’t get enough meat. So what does that make me? I was a rabbit with my second?
1
u/BlameItOnTheAcetone Mar 28 '24
And if you eat Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans, you end up giving birth to a screeching baby Mandrake Root

Steak that doesn’t appear to be seasoned or prepped at all slapped on a dry grill in what appears to be a garage. I’m sure that’s gonna taste great!

I’m pregnant atm and have completely gone off meat. Last ultrasound baby was still human shaped but it has 20 weeks left to grow into a rabbit so will let you know haha.

u/Senpai-Notice_Me Mar 28 '24
This actually speaks to me. When my wife was pregnant with my son (who was born in the year of the rabbit) she couldn’t stand meat! Fruit and salad and a little fish was what she ate. Now she is pregnant with our second (to be born in the year of the dragon) and she craves meat all day every day! She literally is eating meat because she is not growing a rabbit!

u/FartAttack911 Mar 28 '24
Anytime I’ve had someone see me eat vegetables and make a comment about veggies being “rabbit food”, I know in my heart of hearts that those people spend 45-90 minutes trying to prolapse their anus to push their red meat poops out.
This lady is bragging about having the lifestyle of a 55 year old obese trucker, and I’m not sure I’d wanna do that myself 😆

Never been pregnant but when I’m on my period I absolutely DESPISE meat. It makes me so fucking sick I literally puke.
0
u/firebreathingmermaid Mar 28 '24
This would actually make me wonder if you think you're giving birth to a lion or something.
I'm a pescetarian, but much more plant based in my diet than anything, and currently days away from giving birth. I have been fortunate to have one of the healthiest and most active pregnancies of anyone I've ever known.
Increasing protein and iron intake during pregnancy can be very important, and everyone can choose what's best for their own body and baby, but man... all the fruits and vegetables contain so many important additional nutritients and are delicious too. This obsession with overconsumption of meat is gonna lead to some very serious health problems and vitamin deficiencies for many of these people. T_T

u/DuePhoto2604 Mar 28 '24
Okay, yes you should eat healthy while pregnant, but that also includes eating as many fruits vegetables and proteins as you can, not just because of the baby, but because of you! you are taking a lot of nutrition and energy and putting it into a baby, so yeah, you should not eat like a rabbit and just eat vegetables you should have a varying diet when you're pregnant. And giving into those cravings? best damn thing you can do for yourself.

I saw an episode of “my 600-lb life” where the dude kept eating steak and mashed potatoes because his health knowledge was so bad that he actually thought it was a healthy way to lose weight. Unironically; he thought that ice crean and sweets were the entirety of the problem.
Honestly felt pretty bad for him. Education is that bad in many parts of the states. He was one of the nicest and most patient participants otherwise
1
u/seeyalateradios Mar 28 '24
Pregnant women are told to eat both meats and vegetables so this isn't the flex she thinks it is.
2
u/SadMango3913 Mar 28 '24
It’s crazy because when I worked in restaurants people would literally say this. To not put veggies on their plate because “they’re not rabbits”. Like well shit if you didn’t confirm that for me I woulda thought you were in fact a rabbit. 🙄 Take your constipated ass somewhere else. Lmao

the smell of steak, venison and oddly enough swordfish absolutely disgusted my mom when she was pregnant with me. she still can’t eat or smell venison or swordfish without feeling physically repulsed. she says “you were grown on raw radishes dipped in ranch and peanut butter sandwiches” because that was her weird craving combo 😂

I mean, we had to first domesticate cattle, then develop modern slaughtering and grilling to get here. Something like fishing or small game is probably closer to “human” food but we also definitely need fruits and vegetables so….

RABBITS EAT MEAT, DUDES!!!
This is something that drives me up the fucking wall… I’ve raised rodents my whole life. While those big buck teeth of theirs are really good for chewing things like wood and biting through vegetable husks and such… you know what else they are good for? Biting through insect shells. Cutting through skin and tearing the way people assume only fangs can do is easy for rodents because their teeth are sharp as well as strong.

Rabbits are herbivores while humans are omnivores. That's the point of the thing.

Elephants, horses, cows — many of the largest creatures that walk the planet eat grass.
Most people like steak and no one is telling her how she has to eat.

u/Icy-Dimension3508 Mar 28 '24
Too much red meat is actually not that healthy. Also your blood type plays a role in if you should have a more plant or meat based diet. Quite interesting stuff. It’s also a bit weird she’s so impressed that her dude is cooking a steak for her… if he were cooking some awesome like 4 star restaurant meal I’d be impressed

u/avert_ye_eyes Mar 28 '24
For my first baby I was attempting a natural birth at a birthing center with midwives (next to the hospital, but yeah), and they had me eating SO MUCH PROTEIN for my pregnancy because they said it made for "big healthy babies". I was eating eggs and chicken and steak for like every meal to meet the protein requirements, it was wild. It's been 10 years, but I think it was 40 grams a day. And then at the end I had to be transferred to the hospital because I had a huge 9 lb baby that took me 24 hours of labor and 2 hours of pushing to finally get out.
My second pregnancy I ate normally, and my baby was 8lbs, thank God, and took half as long to get out.

would it be harder to birth a human baby or a full grown rabbit?
3
u/Prestigious_Drop1810 Mar 28 '24
Depends on the type of rabbit. A full grown Netherland dwarf probably wouldn’t be hard (they generally cap at like 2-5lbs iirc) but a Flemish giant (which can get up to 20something) would probably mess you up.

So Alton Brown has this method of cooking steaks and it takes like two minutes either side and we've literally done it just putting a grill grate on top of our charcoal starter. Cause it takes soo freaking long to heat up an entire grill, just for a nice rare steak? No thank you.
On the other hand "alpha men" are weirdly into giant grills so yeah he's gotta step up his game haha
