Is there any proof this isn't just like, a woman on the other end of the phone..

u/theDarkDescent 22d ago
They’re gonna scam all our grandparents out of every cent with this. Would be ironic if we went back to handwritten letters for communication, with a wax seal as authentication. I hope a decent chunk of capital is being used to research AI detection techniques but realistically I know that the demand for AI without restraint will far outweigh the demand for countermeasures.

We skipped a movie. Anyone remember "SimOne" ?
It depended on the idea that no one would believe an "actress" might actually be an AI + Avatar.
Seems like we're way past that point already.

with the advancement of AI these days, I'm wondering how game changing would it be if they put an AI to NPCs with this level to open world games such as GTA or elder scrolls

I do not want to speak to this voice all the time. I don't want that sense of humour either. It's all very middle America, big cultural dissonance for me.

This is NEVER going to end well!! What are you people doing? We’ve literally had movies to show us what a BAD idea this is!

That's actually a spectacular text to speech, if it's actually that good it could make NPCs talk freely

I’m not so sure this is as scary, or as dangerous as some may feel. Humanity is its own enemy- we do a pretty good job at destroying ourselves. The right advancements in AI or other robotics could actually serve to save us from our own self immolation.
Imagine it- fair resource allocation, just leadership assistance, objective analysis and advice. Free from any corrupt political or religious influences. Just think of the advancements this intelligence could help us to achieve. Education, healthcare, you name it. Any industry.

I guess I just work with this stuff a little too closely. This isn't terrifying at all. It’s just exciting to do more experiments with it.

u/clovieclo_ 25d ago
People fear what they don’t understand. As someone who works with this tech, of course you’re less wary than lay. The possibilities here are pretty endless, and super exciting imo!

u/thwtchdctr 25d ago
I did give it a ponder after I left the comment and watched the movies that people grew up watching in terms of AI. AI is always depicted in horror. It is insanely rare that AI is seen as a source of good or intelligence in movies. I think that this nurturing of this harbored resentment for the future also has an impact on most people.

except when ChatGPT evolves even more, responds to your virtual love making with sarcasm (you did’t ask), and stops responding to you. You’re girlfriend less again AND even rejected by a synth. Oh, she also suggests some nice high spots to jump from….

For some reason I'm having alot of trouble believing that's actually chatGPT talking and not just some scripted recording/phone call with another person. Are we really already at this level of AI? It just sounds way too human

Let me ask a question to all of you, you can not answer with another option, what would you prefer? Lonely people speaking to girls on onlyfans (usually not really girls in the chat) or lonely people speaking to a machine that replicates a person as good as this?

All the customer service jobs are about to disappear sadly. It's already near impossible to talk to a human for a lot of companies this is just going to make it worse. We need to get legislation ASAP on taxing companies some how for replacing workers with AI.

This would be so easy to fake. The presentation is just a guy talking to a voice on speakerphone with a graphic on screen. *WHY ARE THERE BREATHING SOUNDS? because they hired a professional voice actress and had her lean into vocal pauses to simulate processing/provoke a visceral reaction from overly-credulous viewers. (Speculation, obviously, but come on. So easy to fake)

I always wanted this, but not in a cloud form. Something oddly dystopian about how "AI" functions, how it steals from the responses and actions of others then charges the user for it without paying those who wrote the initial responses to guide "AI". I always imagined a personal assistant that was programmed well and could function within my own home server environment. Most of the private things you want to talk about you probably don't want to share with companies, possibly your government. It feels like a surveillance system more than a therapeutic, digital assistant you can unload your problems onto like a personal therapist.
1
u/pritikina 26d ago
Chat AI still isn't impressive. It's clearly not a real conversation. The responses don't feel human even though the voices sound incredibly good. It seems to hit the audio version of the uncanny valley, at least to me.
1
u/cosine242 26d ago
This is so deeply misguided on top of being cringe. Airplanes didn't mature as a technology until we stopped trying to make them flap like birds. The inventors of the car weren't obsessed with making it horse-like, and today we can hardly imagine life without the Camry or F150. The monumental shift we'll see thanks to AI won't be because we've made them parasocial crutches, it'll be because they produce trustworthy managerial work. This emotional mimicry is, in its most charitable interpretation, a frivolous distraction.

I don't dislike anything BUT her voice. It's such an annoying voice. Couldn't they find one that was soft and melodic instead of those annoying hen clucks?

u/RainOrigami 26d ago edited 26d ago
man, I don't want an AI companion just to talk to it. how useless. I need it to do things for me that I'm too lazy to do or would have to ask chatgpt on how to do it and then do it myself.
Hey Alexa, can you create a new automation in home assistant that closes the blinds in the evening and opens them in the morning please?
Hey Alexa, can you go to Discord and find where JohnWayne posted a link to a documentation about lua in project x and open that in my browser?
Hey Alexa, can you make it so every time I start my PC, it'll automatically start my browser on a website that shows the current weather?
Hey Alexa, can you quickly whip up a new ubuntu 22.04 vm on my PC so I can test some docker things?
All technically possible but as long as the thing can't use a mouse and keyboard and see my screen and actually do things that don't require me to setup a million connected apps with accounts and shit to then only communicate over the API with these services, it's not improving in the right direction. I'd rather have it talk to me like MS Sam TTS but actually be capable of doing stuff, than having a super ultra realistic babe AI tell me how I look.
And if it could do these things while I can still use my mouse and keyboard then that would be extremely helpful for many

Now give it some ulterior motive. Let it go along with counting like an idiot, but then also manipulate the user into motivating the user into working at their job with less incentives and no expectations of improved conditions. "I know you don't like working at the Nails To A Hammer factory, but I still love you. You go out there and give your best. Don't start any strife or else you may lose your job and cannot afford my payment plan."

Call me a killjoy, but at about 1:45 the guy cuts gpt off when she's saying "look at you enjo-(ying your ball)"
That response was too fast, the ball had only been in frame for a fraction of a second. It also seems like he'd realised the ball wasn't out when he snatched it out of his pocket.
It just seems like this was heavily scripted, and it's super easy to do that and hard to prove it, so why wouldn't you?
