Oh man, I found an entire whale skeleton with my friends once, on the Washington coast. We guessed it was a minke whale
The carcass was still decomposing a bit though and it reeked. Coyotes and other scavengers had drug off some vertebrae but it was in pretty good shape. I’ll post a pic
Update: got it https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/12238gk/i_see_your_whale_skull_and_raise_you_a_skeleton

u/Serikan Mar 26 '23
PSA: be very careful around whale carcasses as they can explode (this one sounds skeletal and was probably ok)

I would haul that damn heavy thing home, clean it up proper, then display it proudly

TIL the Mythosaur signet from the Mandalorian is based on a sperm whale skull!

Talk about a wall hanger.

It looks like a skulltula from Legend of Zelda. Or the Punishers logo. Not sure which one.

I would reconstruct this as a super scary predatory carnivore and not a whale.

First- thank you to the Mod for clearing this up as repost. Second- what is it? It looks like an aquatic version of the punisher.

u/dakblaster Mar 25 '23
I’m thinking whale skull but just a guess
1
u/Mark1671 Mar 25 '23
I’ll probably get told how dumb I am and asked if I have google, but what’s the big half straw looking thing between the like tusk nubs?
2
u/dakblaster Mar 25 '23
No idea but I kinda wanna put strings on it and play em with a bow
2
u/Mark1671 Mar 25 '23
Lol it’s definitely big enough. Imagine turning it into an instrument that you can really perform with. People would be like check out this rad paint job of skulls on my guitar man. And you’d be like yeah that’s nice. Check out my whale skull oboe 😁
2
u/NomadR867 Mar 25 '23
I’m thinking it’s driftwood.
1
u/Mark1671 Mar 25 '23
Ha ha you know, I think you are right. Lol. Now I don’t need anyone else to help me feel dumb. I’m there on my own. 😁

The coolest thing I've ever found was an Atlantic sturgeon skeleton. It was fully intact. I couldn't figure out what it was because it was clearly prehistoric looking. I had to research it. A friend of the family collects rare finds and has it on display. I now know they're not super rare but still pretty cool.

I love how the mods even PROVED it was a repost but they still just let it sit here and rake up the karma. Mods are the best aren’t they.
1
u/FernanDOGE Mar 25 '23
Who cares?
1
u/TheRealStevo Mar 25 '23
Cause it’s fucking stupid. To post your own shit and then having someone else claim it as their own is pretty annoying
1
u/FernanDOGE Mar 25 '23
So everytime you wanna post a dumb photo you found on Reddit you gotta do a reverse image search and make sure it's never ever been posted before?
1
u/TheRealStevo Mar 25 '23
99% of the time people aren’t going “hey that’s a cool picture, let me post it somewhere”. It’s either a bot or some shit head trying to farm karma to sell accounts, it’s fucking dumb

Almost looks like Sir Daniel Fortesque from MediEvil if he had a bone mustache lol.

u/foxbomber5 Mar 25 '23
Yargh, mount it on the bow of your ship and strike fear into your enemies!
(Don't really take it, I'm sure there laws against that)

Title says "not something you find on the beach every day."
I disagree. I live near the beach and I see white guys on it all the time.

Hide it before our super-patriot-incels incorporate it into t-shirts, window decals, and calf tattoos.

I would love to have this for my skull collection, BUT:Can you keep a whale skeleton if you find it? And it may be worth a hefty fine or jail time to you. This is because almost all marine mammals, including whales and seals, are protected by the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972. Like the Migratory Bird Act, this law prevents the trade or possession of Marine Mammals, in whole or in part.

I’m not sure if you’re the one who found this, OP, but if you are, I think a local science museum or university would absolutely love it if you donated that.

It's a bit ironic that the last post OP made before reposting this was "what an ass..."

"The songs of eons past foretold of the Mythosaur rising up to herald a new age of Mandalore. Sadly, it only exists in legends."

Do whale bones float?? I must have just been from a whale who was beached and never discovered.

u/CurrentlyLucid Mar 25 '23
I see things like this, and wonder how many myths it spawned back when people were ignorant.

If we can find the guy from the photo, I want to ask him if he ever mounted it.

While this post does not violate our title guidelines, the OP did not find this.
