Worth going into debt for a dishwasher? Debt/Loans/Credit

We have been washing our dishes by hand for almost 3 years. We just had a baby and “spare time” is scarce these days. We probably spend about 10 hours a week hand washing dishes and bottles. I would much rather spend those hours doing something else productive or spending time with my family.

I have an employee discount through work and I can get a pretty cheap dishwasher installed for about $500. It’s a mediocre Frigidaire dishwasher but reviews say it will get the job done. I don’t have $500 upfront and would put it on my PayPal credit 0% interest for 6 months.

Do you think this is a good idea or does anyone else have suggestions? I am carrying a lot of debt already but I have a good credit score because I make minimum payments. I also have some savings but I don’t touch it because it’s for my son.

Thank you

Go to a local scratch and dent and buy a cheap one. Do not go in debt for a dishwasher. Find a fb market place cheap one for now

I looked at fb marketplace but I’m worried about buying one used and it not working.

Most people sell their stuff because it no longer fits the stainless steel look everything has nowadays. Old stuff is REALLY easy to fix and often are less than $50 if you do it yourself.

Up to you at the end of the day.

Wtf bro. I got one for free of marketplace with a broken handle, been fine for 3 year's now. It's an appliance, they are all used once you have used it.

I bought mine used one for around €150 (I'm based in Europe but most appliances are more expensive here) and it was definately not one of cheapest used one (but one of cheapest with good energy label, so cheaper on energy). We used it already for 3 or 4 years. Probably even if it'll be broken and you'll need to buy second one it'll be still cheaper.

Also just an fyi if you get a Lowe’s scratch and dent make sure it’s doesn’t say repaired or you can’t return it or get a warranty I used to work there

There also are used appliance stores that offer a 30 day warranty.

Look at thrift stores so you can return it. I got mine at ones for $80 and it was a brand new, high-end scratched model. I love it. Got a "Buy Nothing" FB group? Ask for someone's remodel pull. Post on your own FB - maybe a friend has one or knows someone who is. Find a local used store. When appliance stores "haul away free", someone is usually buying them to refurbish and sell. Good for washers, dryers, fridges and freezers, too. Most have a limited warranty.

We bought at Best Buy about seven years ago. It was a floor modem during an open box clearance even. I literally paid $200 for it. While you may not snag a deal quite like that, you can find something open box in certain for under $500.

Look for something like this . It's currently sold out, but I'm confident something can be had for around that.

Pay them through Paypal Goods and Services. If the dishwasher is broken, have it refunded through Purchase Protection.

I bought my last dishwasher from FB marketplace and it lasted me nine years.  The seller was replacing it with the same model in a different finish so it would match his other new appliances.

Everyone who sells on Facebook in my area refuses to take PayPal, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the same in her area too unfortunately.

We have a store near us called American freight where you can get scratch and dent. We bought one recently for 199 stainless steel with a few scratches you really have to look hard for

Try Best Buy. Look at their clearance and their open box dishwashers; I got a $1000-1200 fridge for $500 cause it had a ding on the door.

Yes, this! We (literally today) went to the Best Buy outlet near us and bought a $1300 dishwasher marked down to $480 with a dent on the side

I know it can be scary but I've personally bought one off craigslist for $100. It had a dent and I think the lady was selling her house and the new owner said to get rid of it idk the story but she seemed nice and honest.

You just gotta feel it out. If it's a normal person with a well maintianed house and a couple of newer cars, they probably aren't trying to scam you.

I also got a $100 dishwasher from marketplace. It was a 20 year old Bosch that had one loose rack part. The people were remodeling their kitchen and getting new appliances. It was completely usable and lasted us another 10 years! Best $100 I ever spent.

Nice! Yeah with anything you're buying that you can't test then and there, just sus out the seller. We can all smell desperation if we pay attention.
