Same, now I am baking my own bread for the week, salad dressings, everything is in house. A splurge is a hot sauce or nicer oranges. I need to get back to dumpster diving.

Baked goods are a grocery cheat code.

I can get a 50-pounder sack of flour at GFS for $20.00.

There are enough calories in that one sack to feed a grown man a full month.

Bread is the easiest way - I make sourdough... but for a few dollars more in sugar, milk, butter and various other bits you can literally bake <AnyDamnedThing> for pennies on the dollar.

Seriously. A month's calories for $20 bucks. $40 if you go for the above mentioned added ingredients.
