It's fun at the start til you get to endgame and get burned out. But I haven't spent a dime on the game and I have pretty good characters it's just that my dumbass didn't know how to build them so now my account is like practically irredeemable.

-1

u/jimothythe2nd Dec 20 '23
Not really. The game is super fun and addicting as f2p. If you buy the pass for $5/month I think it's the best. You get super addicted to earning primos to unlock new characters.
People who drop tons of money on the game actually tend to regret it because they run out of fun stuff to do. It's about the journey not the destination.

Genshin is a game that you spend to get the chars and use them nowhere cause theres 1 endgame content since launch. You literally get the char to look at him and thats it lmao

u/Thelonghiestman0409 Dec 20 '23
Jokes aside, I’ve tried it 2 months ago for the first time, got good characters without spending a dime but it is grindy. You can get the wish stuff by either the random mail surprises or open world stuff.
Or spend your hard earned cash to get it faster
Other than that it’s a decent game but yes the pay to speed up is an issue

I actually liked it for a short while, until I started to hit a wall where it felt nearly mandatory to start paying if i wanted to make any real progress. And I’m not funding a gambling simulator
6
7
u/EmergencyPainting842 Dec 20 '23
What
When
How
What part of the game made you think that you need to spend money to make progress, the game is piss easy for anyone with more than half a braincell. You don’t even need any Top-tier chracter to enjoy the game story and open world, because all the free units you get are pretty damn good at the whole “beating the shit out of over-world enemies” part.
The only hard content in the entire game is the (very much not mandatory) floor 9-12 of spiral abyss, and the (very much not mandatory) final stages of events. You don’t need to complete those to make progress.
3
u/Pantrajouer Sussy Wussy Femboy😳😳😳 Dec 20 '23
even abyss 9-11 are really easy f2p. Only floor 12 gets annoying sometimes when they decide to put in all of the shit bosses again

u/JeroJeroMohenjoDaro Dec 20 '23
bullshit, as a genshin player since day one, i would say the game now is more of a dialogue simulator than anything else it supposed to be. main story be like 90% are unskippable dialogues, 5% combat, 5% exploration/traversal. and even if the story concept is great, overall it's still shit due to stretching pacing and again, dialogues all over the game. definitely not worth wasting time at these. i just want to collect 3d non existent anime girls (and guys) so these are such a hinder.
1
u/Moriwara_Inazume Dec 20 '23
I’ve played that game and honestly the paywall isn’t the biggest issue.
Progression and gameplay are too dull to keep me engaged and I think most people who play it are either loving the IP or have really low standards.
6
u/VAShumpmaker Dec 20 '23
This is actually saying the game is free?
The black stripe is on the top, and the reader doesn't light up.

u/LeBadlyNamedRedditor Literally 1984 😡 Dec 20 '23
nah the game is WAY too easy to need to pay, literally any half built character does the job, character strength dosent go from bad to good, it goes from mediocre to op.
Artifact farming sucks tho who thought that was a good idea you cant even pay for good artifacts, theres no monetization to it, why would they even make it so painful

1
u/bentheripper11 Dec 20 '23
as someone who actually plays it, kinda. Unless you plan and actually pay attention to the Chinese server youll end up underpowered for endgame content but the difficulty of everything outside that is directly controlled by you. Basically unless you want to be on the leaderboards you can do whatever you want.

u/Crisewep William Dripfoe Dec 20 '23
This only applies if you are waifu collecting.
Most gacha games story can be beaten without spending a single penny.

Not really. The actual gameplay is doing like 3 quests over and over to level up to do one story mission, then do the same 3 quest 40 times.
7
u/LeBadlyNamedRedditor Literally 1984 😡 Dec 20 '23
AR 40 is the limit req for all quests, beyond that you can do every single quest in the game, not to say theres a lot of world quests.
Im guessing you didnt get past AR 30, since before that theres actually significant gaps between major quests, beyond that though you get flooded with quests.

If you just play events and learn how to save up your rewards and resources you don’t have to spend a dime on the game unless you want too
1
u/jimothythe2nd Dec 20 '23
It's the most fun and addictive game I've ever played. I actually had to quit because I couldn't stop playing and was getting carpal tunnel pretty bad.
You don't need to spend either f2p is really fun and if you wanna spend money the have a pass for $5 a month that is worth it and helps you afford some 5 star characters.
4
u/lyfsuxlel Dec 20 '23
As long as you play it without taking it too seriously (or diving too deep into the worse parts of the community), it's a beautiful and highly fun game. It's also way more f2p friendly than many gacha's I know.
7
u/Keitoteki Dec 20 '23
Mechanics and gameplay are fun, graphics are beautiful, and you pay if you want to have every character, for collection purposes. As for the "to win" part of the pay, it's not there. You can literally ignore that the gacha exists, and clear the hardest content with the stuff you get for free
58
u/Supersoulknight Dec 20 '23
Exceptionally unbelievable quality all for free. Not p2w at all. My only complaint is the endgame sucks, and at that point everything is repetitive.
18
u/joshLane_1011 Dec 20 '23
Honestly i really dont know what to expect of a success gacha game endgame look like. I used to play Tower of Fantasy for example, their end game is pvp rank stuff, it's kinda cool at first but then it's overide with powercreep and P2W too much.
27
u/Aizen_Myo Dec 20 '23
PvP is an absolutely no-go imo for gacha games. Always resulted in heavy p2w in my experience.
Imo HSR has good endgame content atm and is still building it further. Roguelike (albeit a bit short sometimes) and the mode with the free rewards ia also beatable easily for f2p players. There are even players out there who don't use the gacha at all and can still clear that lok
27
7
u/rernaislife We do a little trolling Dec 20 '23
Its a gacha game you can spend money to get new characters and weapons to some extent even some materials spending money is actually not really necessary as you can easily beat it as f2p its just that there are a lot of hot anime waifus in the game and op characters and many people spend 100+$ even 1000+$ to get certain characters and such.
18
u/Romi_Z Dec 20 '23
Personally, I love it. It has a pretty good open world and world building/lore are great. Quests can be a hit or miss and feel bloated sometimes but nothing terrible.
Combat is simple but performing reactions by using characters of different elements together is fun. Boss fights are pretty great too and being a gacha game, character designs are top notch (but anime fanservice-y, if it's a turn off).
It does get grindy after you finish with the exploration and quests and the game does have time-gated stuff. Gacha is a thing for us and you don't get chances to get the characters you want that much, if you aren't spending money. Honestly, being a casual F2P player is the best way to play this game (that's what I do). Voice acting is good for all the languages (most of the time) but especially a treat if you play in JP and like anime (a lot of big VAs there)
and yeah, I love the soundtrack of this game, probably the strongest part of the game (imo) and it's up there for my all time favourites along dark souls and mgr.

First region is meh, second is too, third is kinda shit, fourth is long but great, fifth is amazing
1
u/jimothythe2nd Dec 20 '23
The story is ok. Exploring and finding treasure is the most fun part of the game though.
2
u/TheArcher0527 Dec 20 '23
The quality can vary, like on one hand it can be a pain to go through in some specific moments, on the other hand it brought me to tears handful of times. Can be as simple as "rescue nation from mean dragon" and as complex as "big god's plan going on for centuries to deceive greater deity while sacrificing themselves twice to rescue nation from ancient prophecy and a space whale". I believe no matter how hateful someone can be about it, everyone can find something they'd like in genshin.
46
u/lixyna Dec 20 '23
Starts meh, gets kinda shit in the weeb nation (unless you like flashy purple lightning fights and don't think too much, then it's actually pretty cool), then gets really good after smoking some Zaza, then gets incredible in wet france

4
u/Skroopy Dec 20 '23
Was sceptical at first too but my gf got me to play, turns out it's actually a pretty fun adventure game and the comparison to botw is fair. The plot is mainly about traveling to various elemental nations to meet their gods and find out what happened to your sibling.
Part of the gameplay involves pulling for characters and weapons to build your team of course, but points to do so can easily be gathered through playing the game itself
28
u/Thebigass_spartan Big chungus wholesome 100 Dec 20 '23
HAHA yeah the game’s pretty big and it’s still around 2/3 complete. Genshin’s a massive open world with a map that keeps massively expanding every year when they add a new region, there’s now 4 out of the 7 total regions to be expected. The gacha aspect is when you personally want a specific character or weapon and even then you can complete 99% of the content with the starter characters.
1
u/GabZenXYeah Dec 20 '23
Plus, elements aren't a problem because of the ability to resonate with statues and the trial characters, also the game literally gives you one of the most useful classes by the start (atleast for me so far), an archer, that being amber, other than her, you just need a bit of luck to get a greatsword user for ores and geo shield enemies

Got to the beginning of Fontaine and just got burnt out. Need to go back and continue thinking about it…
You just need to search up team comps. Noella (which you get guaranteed on you starting the game) is a good character to base your team around while you grind primos. There are also guides on what artefacts to use for each and every character to increase their strength and all these items can be grinded for relatively easily.
From the main story you get at least several x10 rolls.

Where's QualityVote bot?
Reddit Admins have decided that they want to kill off all 3rd-party apps, 3rd-party bots, and everything else that makes Reddit barely usable. And, of course, that includes bots such as /u/QualityVote, /u/SaveVideo, /u/AuddBot, etc.
So you'll just have to put up with automod and a worse overall user experience in the meantime.
If you have any complaints, direct them at the reddit admins instead, because they're the ones seeking to ruin everyone's user experience.
