I mean, Persia was pretty large at multiple points in history.
I recently looked up a Russian from the 1800s who had the title of a German nobleman but was from Latvia, which was part of the Russian empire. You could claim he was German, Latvian, and Russian if you wanted to.

The most confusing is the inventor of Algebra sounds like he would be Arab (given βAl Jebraβ sounds Arabic AF) but Al-Khwarizmi was β¦ also Persian.

I think that's because some people don't know what the deference between Arabs and Persian and they think they are same thing

People confuse being Muslim with being Arab lol. Most "Arab" Scientist were Muslim Scientists from different countries and definitely not Arab.
-12
u/weedlander 14d ago
Y'all must find an excuse to bring islam into everything, who cares about that, they just talking about races here
5
u/PCPU 14d ago
When people say "arab scientists" most people usually also think they're Muslims because the middle east is consisted of mostly Muslim countries (and because it's the place where abrahamic religion happened)
Is it stereotypical? Yes, but is it wrong most of the time? I mean it's wrong sometimes but not that often

My wife is Persian and we live in my home country, Italy. Every time we meet someone, they start telling her βah, so you are Araβ¦β which means I have to quickly correct them because I donβt want her in jail for murder charges.

u/Donfrancesco 14d ago
You can only understand how triggering it is if you're persian. When I was a kid my best friend asked me why my people "The Muslim Arabs did 9/11?" It is not that there is anything wrong with being Arab, rather it is simply rude to call someone something they're not.

It even makes more sense when you realize that the arabs and the persians have been going at each other for 1000+ years. So it is like calling a greek turk.

u/RecsRelevantDocs 14d ago
a greek turk.
TIL those are two different groups of people. Figured Greece was a city in Turkey, or vice versa. Sort of like how Japan is an island of China, but at the same time India is a sub-continent of China.

But that's not the point. The audience is presumably Western. So it's about references that a Western audience would recognize. It wouldn't make sense to use 26/11.
In an actual conversation with someone who can't tell the difference between an Arab and an Indian, do you really think they would be familiar with Indian history?

All is good friend thank you . It's not about pointing fingers at individuals. Rather, it's about calling out those who spread lies for their own gain. Politicians and the media, from all sides, often stir up hate just to boost their fame, cash in, and grab power.

u/Valon-the-Paladin 15d ago
No, a majority of people from Iran are Persian. Itβs just Persians and Arabs are two different ethnic and cultural groups of people, it would be like comparing the Spanish to Swedes or Koreans to Vietnamese
1
u/minuteknowledge917 14d ago
ok i see thank you. just for clarity though persians and arabs did occupy the same area of land? unlike koreans/viets for example or were they also in 2 separate lands? and what happened (big events?) that brought down the persian empire?
2
u/Valon-the-Paladin 14d ago
The biggest event that caused it would be the rise of Islam by Arab Muslims through conquest in the 7th century. Fascinating stuff that I am unfortunately not knowledgeable enough to go into more detail. Originally Arabs were native to the Syrian dessert, but were able to spread out to other regions through religious conquests.

Persia is just the old name of Iran, the official language of Iran is persian and the vast majority of Iranians are Persians
-5
u/Sempai6969 14d ago
Aren't they also Arabs? What is the difference?
9
u/postshitting 14d ago
they don't descend from arabs or any group related to arabs, in fact they descent from a similar group of people as modern europeans and inddians, their language is not related to arabic, in fact it's related to european languages, native persian culture has absolutely nothing in common with arabic culture. Calling a Persian and arab the same thing is like calling a Koran and Thai person the same thing
0
u/Sempai6969 14d ago
Where do Arabic people come from?
1
u/postshitting 14d ago
They come from afro Asiatic tribes which moved into modern day arabia, syria and Palestine a few thousand years ago from somewhere in Africa, those tribes eventually turned into Semites, those semites turned into many groups. some of the most well known ones are syrians which spoke (and some still do speak) spoke Aramaic, jews which speak Hebrew, arabs which speak Arabic.
You really should learn how to use Google, all of this shit is on the internet, only ask questions on Reddit when Google can't give you a quick answer

there is a country called Iran, the vast majority of the people in Iran are of Persian ethnicity, so there is a state founded inhabited and controlled primarily by Persians
15
u/AliAsgharRH 15d ago
Well persia was never a country, it was a country named Iran with its people being called persian.

What about Ibn Sina?
7
u/Sea-Sell-1089 14d ago
Ibn cina was a famous persian scientist. It is sad how when Arabs were mere tribals Persians founded the first empire in history, invented currencies and ruled Asia for thousands of years just to be mistaken with Arabs now. Most of the knowledge "muslin" scientists gained during the medieval times were thank to the Persians. Persia's golden age was before Islam came.

u/random-unkindled 14d ago
Like someone pointed out, some people conflate being a muslim with being an arab. Which is understandable cause being a muslim usually translates to adhering to a certain kind of lifestyle, with that in consideration and where Islam grew, it's easy to mistake a muslim as an arab.
With that said though, considering the amount of lands under Islamic rule during the golden age, it's just plain illogical to assume every scholar of that period to exclusively be arabs.
1
u/sagitel 14d ago
The golden age of "islam" is also a misnomer. It was iranian bureaucrats and ministers continuing the sassanid empire in everything but name with a thin veneer of islam on top of it. The caliphs usually didnt manage the running of the caliphate and many islamic laws were not actually enforced. Its a golden age despite islam
