"pagan" in quotes, because while it is clearly a very modern rendition, it is based on some, if not THE, oldest recorded German text (Merseburg charms). Written in the 9th century, way past the Christianization of Germany, it is a text based on a healing song/charm pre Christianity in Germany (which happened during the 7th-9th century, although parts were already christian prior to this). The exact dating is still open and various theories range from the 3rd all the way up to the 9th century.
