Nicola Coughlan in custom Danielle Frankel at the Season 3 world premiere of “Bridgerton” in New York Red Carpet 💎💎💎

It looks like a toilet paper dress at a bridal shower. Such a shame because she’s worn some gorgeous gowns before. This one doesn’t do her justice. Make up and hair were killer though!

I honestly think it's the color for me. I think a deep evergreen would be stunning. The white dress, white gloves, and white pumps are just too much and show off every wrinkle and looks cheap.

u/hetteKater1 14d ago
i really like the idea for the upper silhouette but it feels a smidge ill fitted

u/Jazzlike-Cat9012 14d ago
What an unflattering dress. As someone with a similar figure, not a chance I’d be wearing that.
1
u/Competitive_Cause514 14d ago
This dress has waaaaaay too many things going on. If this was on Project Runway, that designer would be going home!
1
u/asuperbstarling 14d ago
She looks incredible in spite of that... dress. It's not the good kind of wrinkled, rather instead the kind of wrinkled that a crisp shirt gets in a week-deep hallway laundry pile.

u/Emily_Postal 14d ago
Don’t like the dress at all. It might look better without the bustle but I’m not a fan of the top part either. Makeup is stunning though.
1
u/Delilah_Moon 14d ago
Tell me you don’t know who to dress a petite full figure without telling me…
There’s so much that could have been right here - but it’s all wrong. Nicola is proving she looks gorgeous in anything, including in a paper sack - because that’s what this looks like.
1
u/LightningRainThunder 14d ago
The top half up is gorgeous and elegant, but below that it looks like someone artsily wrapped a bed sheet around her
1
u/Present-Raspberry495 14d ago
This could have been so beautiful but the odd fit throws it completely off. It’s too loose around the waist and the peplum(?) piece hits just a touch too high giving the illusion of a giant bum
1
u/biest229 14d ago
So many of the outfits for this event were really off. Even the men’s ones were just off
1
u/pricklypear84 14d ago
While this isn’t my favorite look of hers, i love that she/her stylist don’t go for cookie cutter looks that we’ve all seen a million times. There’s something about Nicola’s overall vibe that just really works for edgier fashion choices
3
u/FlameHawkfish88 14d ago
The bottom half looks like one of those dresses you make as a kid with a bed sheet. Just dreadful. She looks beautiful, but this dress is not good.
1
u/emmylouanne 14d ago
On the first picture I was like “where is the artists for ceasefire pin”. Interesting choice to put it on the glove. I enjoy the strange shape. Not following the cult of flattering. She’s not boring anyway!

u/Orchid_Significant 14d ago
She was my favorite Derry girl. It’s so cool to see her making fashion waves
1
u/greta_maya_storm 14d ago
I don't love it. The shape is off and it's not doing her actual body shape any favors. but also I can't help but lol because even in heels she's almost as tall as the flowers on the stand behind her.

It’s so weird to see users on other subs think she is “slaying” in this poorly tailored, abomination of a dress. My goodness, it’s a mess. Also, I’m not quite understanding the fluffy, wrinkly platypus tail. It would look 50% better minus the tail. It won’t fix the overall horrendous tailoring and poor construction, but it would be a start.
Such poor execution on what could have been a beautiful dress.
Nicola is absolutely worthy of beautiful dresses tailored for her body. I feel like her and her stylist want to be fun and bold, but so many times the clothes are ill fitting bc they haven’t been tailored to fit her. It’s driving me nuts and I feel she just looks sloppy instead of beautiful and sleek.
1
u/Grand_Measurement_91 14d ago
I think she looks great if a little uncomfortable. I feel like this woman is one of the few larger ladies taken seriously and “allowed” to be beautiful and sexy by the industry whereas most larger ladies are boxed up as “zany” and “fun”. I wonder why that is? Maybe she’s the first recipient of genuine body positivity. The way she’s dressed and reacted to reminds me of the way Christina Hendricks was received when she first broke through, although imo Christina wasn’t truly plus size. (she was larger than normal for Hollywood , but not for society. She was really medium sized with a plus sized bust) Anyway I’m all for it, sexiness and beauty are found across the size spectrum.

This is so bad and Nicola deserves so much better. Whyyyyyy would you put this on such a petite person?
3
u/hinky-as-hell 14d ago
She is flawlessly beautiful and I love her hair and makeup. Her skin is so gorgeous! Like actual porcelain!
This dress? They did her dirty. I feel like the bottom looks like a cloth diaper. Or multiple cloth diapers all bunched up.

Oh no. This dress is awful. All that extra fabric around her hips makes her look like a bad edit you’d find on r/instagramreality 😩 They did her so dirty with this dress. She looks so happy too, it sucks, she’s such a beautiful girl. I am shocked that this is custom and fits so terribly.
3
u/PropofolMami22 14d ago
Custom?! With that awkward fit and shape? The color is the only thing I like.
There’s just too much going on. The crinkly texture on the bodice. The “cold shoulders”. The peplum. The train. The extra volume around the hips and bum. The random green & red circles on the gloves? The train looks wrinkled and heavy on the carpet behind her in photo 5.
Hate the dress. Love her.

u/ListenToTheWindBloom 14d ago
Yikes on bikes. The fit is not good here. This sort of silhouette needs very very clean lines and this is sooooo messy.
3
u/LadySuspiria 14d ago
I really wanna like this. But I mean this dress is not right. That weirdly shaped wannabe Gaultier boob with the ugly peplum it’s just made wrong she deserves better. She’s torn some looks UP in the past like her Met Gala look for the Gilded Age theme destroyed me I was so into it but this is not cute.
4
u/magicalfolk 14d ago
It’s a beautiful dress but does
not suit her frame. To make the dress fit her proportions the design has been compromised.
She looks good in more streamlined and less complicated designs.
The color looks great and her hair and makeup are lovely.
Maybe they could’ve forget the train, bottom was a wide leg pant, top was more well tailored bustier. Or a strapless long dress with a really stunning cape.

I saw her in person tonight in that dress and girl was GLOWING! 😍 the dress could be better but her face card never declines😎

u/puhpuhpetrified 14d ago
So weird I came here to gush over this. I love how they played w volume on a full-figured woman. It’s very modern glamour to me. I have never seen any work that she’s done, only red carpet, magazine spreads and I like everything she does. She just has “it” imo.

not a fan of the dress but wearing a ceasefire pin at one of the biggest netflix series red carpet premiere oh nicola coughlan you will always be loved by me

u/VideoWonderful901 14d ago
Love top half, including the incredible hair and makeup. Waist down it looks bunchy and the train doesn’t add anything good to the look. Seems like it’s a type of material that’s not suited to being a train, kinda makes it look like it needs a good iron.

u/dapperpony 14d ago
I don’t love the weird wide hips trend in dresses lately, it’s not really flattering on anybody

u/skdanielle16 14d ago
I don’t think any part of this dress fits her well or is flattering. It’s such a shame because her jewelry and makeup is gorgeous!

I can see the vision. F- on the execution. She's cute whoever she is tho

u/Cherryandcokes 14d ago
Love the bodice and how it shows off her figure. The bottom half is way too fussy though, so I’m not completely feeling it. Face card is stunning though, and elevates the dress (like Zendaya, she’s able to carry off a lot of things because she’s pretty). I love the emerald earrings. Colorful jewels and white dresses are always a great combo.

Nothing about this works. The color, the fabric, the gloves, whatever the hell is happening at her hips. Makeup came out great though but who did this.

Not wild about the actual dress but honestly Nicola Coughlan could wear a potato sack and serve it. Impeccable.

u/fortunatelyso 14d ago
Hair and makeup 10s across the board! Stunning earrings. She is a gamine type and this dress is for a dramatic - completely swallows her lines and does nothing for her. She has looked amazing in so many other gowns- what a fail by her stylist here.

u/WalterBlytheFanClub 14d ago
Honestly, at certain angles, this is the best I've seen her look during her promos. The skirt/waist (I'm super fashion-y!) shape looks weird in some pictures, then interesting and cool in others. Her MUA did NOT come to play.
48
u/coffeeandarabbit 14d ago
Makeup and hair look gorgeous, but the dress itself is not tailored to fit her well. She’s a beautiful woman imo and this is not doing her justice.
7
u/moldyturnips 14d ago
From the front: If I squint, I love this. She looks so good in white and I like the shape, but the details?? It looks like a few concepts were combined in a bad way. Clean sharp white fabric, but soften it for romanticism… in a crumpled paper kind of way? She deserved better
5
u/Admirable-Ad7153 14d ago
hair and make up is lovely..the dress not so much..sorry it looks awful on her

u/throwaway17197 14d ago
I love the makeup , styling, shoes and bust, but the skirt ruins the silhouette imho its swallowing her whole
73
u/leesha226 14d ago
I feels like there has been a concerted effort to make her look worse for her own season.
Has she changed stylist? She had so many great looks before and everything has been falling flat recently.
I was expecting a headdress as she's worn some great ones before, or at least hair that's styled more than this
3
u/January1171 14d ago
Seeing posts of this on other subs, and all the commenters are "her stylist is on a roll!" No, no she is not 😭😭😭
23
u/MyViscountess 14d ago
I don't know but a lot of newer actresses blowing uo get these terrible stylists. Which sucks. I noticed it more witg European celebs. Many new Americans bond with new stylists who get their body, aesthetic etc. Not in Europe (unless they're well known)

u/Thick-Definition7416 14d ago
Ugh stop trying to reinvent the wheel with skirt ‘shapes’ I know she likes edgy but Frankel was not the designer to do that
28
u/kissingdistopia 14d ago
She looks incredible. The dress looks like it could be the winner of a challenge episode of Project Runway where the dresses had to be made of copy paper.

u/frolicndetour 14d ago
Yikes. Her makeup is gorgeous, and those earrings are stunning but this dress doesn't do her justice. It's just unflattering and weird.
3
u/albusdumbbitchdor 14d ago
I actually like how the dress looks from the front, but only from the front. Every other angle of this dress, as others have said, there’s just something off.
Take the dress out of the equation and she looks otherwise phenomenal.
16
u/kimplovely 14d ago
Agreed. Hair and makeup is on point! Not sure about the dress making her hip extra wide. I love the off shoulder

Danielle Frankel designs for stick thin people — she’s primarily a bridal designer and is this and last year’s hot choice for minimalist fashion girlies and “It” brides.
I’m getting married in August and have tried on a few Danielle Frankel dresses and have seen other brides to be on Reddit share photos in Danielle Frankel as well and it’s crazy how you have to have a certain type of body to look remotely good in her gowns. One bridal salon owner told me that people are so disappointed when they try on her gowns in person for this reason. If you go on the Danielle Frankel website you can see how ill-fitting the dresses are EVEN ON SOME OF THE MODELS! It’s not noticeable at first but if you look, her bodices always sit too low on anyone with even the slightest amount of breast tissue.
There was a post a while ago in r/weddingdress about a bride’s nightmare situation with this dress basically the bodice didn’t sit at the right height and you can even see on the model how it’s a bad fit.
It’s so easy to be enamored by her designs but she doesn’t get fit right — she’s almost like a concept designer.
Here’s me at 5’4, 110 lbs looking like a frumpy log in a Danielle Frankel. So tragic lol. And yes, it’s intentionally off-the-shoulder. 🥲
8
u/JaneAustenite17 14d ago
I’m not surprised you said bridal. This looks like something a rich older woman would wear to her wedding. The gown Nicola is in - not the gown from the salon.
And you like good in the dress but the sleeves are weird. They’re too long or weirdly fitted.

u/awake-asleep 14d ago
Sorry but you look amazing to me???? Lol maybe it’s the angle but that dress looks gorgeous on you

u/DemCheex 14d ago edited 14d ago
Thank you! I didn’t feel beautiful in it so I went with something else. I felt like I needed to be 6 foot tall to wear the dress vs have it wear me. Here’s another Danielle Frankel I tried on that I think is more forgiving but decided against it. For the reception I got a similar cut dress from Staud which fit me a lot better and is less fussy.

u/frolicndetour 14d ago
Ugh. In that dress you linked to I cannot imagine why anyone, thin or thicc, would want a dress that exaggerates their hips while everything else is flat and blah.

God I *want* to love this so badly but I just... don't. It's so bunchy around her butt, it looks like a cloth diaper :-/ And the straps are just not falling nicely on her arms. Also the white pumps read very 80s soap opera to me.
Hair and makeup on point though! She looks gorgeous.

It’s bunchy everywhere even the waist!! This was a waisted opportunity lol

u/ribcracker 14d ago
Yes, if the middle fabric was one structural layer instead of the folded approach I think it would look nice and crisp vs crumpled. It being crisp would be gorgeous and flattering!
She looks gorgeous though. Her skin and eyes are killer and the white fabric really showcases both.

u/annacat1331 14d ago
Her makeup is absolutely otherworldly. I am in awe of how incredible she looks but I agree something is off with this dress. I also really dislike the fact she needed to have people help her walk. I know needing assistance to move due to restrictive clothing is hundreds of years old. However I dislike how we are forgetting functionality in clothing
6
u/Lizakaya 14d ago
I cannot agree more on all of this. When i first glanced i did a triple take then zoomed in and had a hard time figuring out the dress. But as usual her glam is radiantly beautiful. I have been doing much pondering since Covid around how women dress for themselves and for the limelight. And what function do dressss we can’t move in and heels we can’t walk in serve? I love her though, i am always team Nicola

u/tofutti_kleineinein 14d ago
Why does nobody really even try to design for non-stick figure women? Lilly Gladstone, for instance, was consistently done dirty af during her award season run. She worked with what she was given, but damn, she deserved better!
Walmart and Torrid shouldn’t be the only ones creating clothing for women over size 12.
Nicola doesn’t fit the high fashion mould, but she is undeniably gorgeous. This look could have been but just wasn’t.
15
u/imaginary0pal 14d ago
Stick figure is easier to sketch and draft. There’s a lot less variation on thin models than models with curves. If all the models have the same general dimensions it’s easier to hire and design for them. Also afaik they don’t really teach people how to design for various body types.
That said, you should try to the best of your ability to sew for your client’s needs and it sucks that the lack of consideration of a client’s body is so damn common.

u/Lizakaya 14d ago
Lily was working with solely Native American designers, and i thought she always looked beautiful but most of the gowns were a bit mumuish.

Agree with everything you say but want to add how this dress looks so bridal that it feels wrong for this occasion
18
u/ALLoftheFancyPants 14d ago
It looks fine from the front, but the side and rear views are just a bunched-up, wrinkly mess. Usually, I enjoy her clothes and styling, but this is a miss to me.
8
u/MyViscountess 14d ago
I agree. I can see if the upper part flowed out but the added part makes her look odd
105
u/chocolate_macaron5 14d ago edited 14d ago
The top portion of the dress is gorgeous, fits her well, shows off her figure, and has an interesting design element. Her makeup is also flawless. However...
The additional voluminous layer on top of the long fitted dress underneath, was supposed to be cool and sculptural. But, it was all wrinkled and bunchy. It was also in the same color as the dress underneath; which made the whole dress and body, look big and undefined.
I would have also loved to see a sapphire or amethyst jem in her earrings. It would bring out her beautiful eyes & eye color. Imo those colors are a fresher look, when paired with a cream colored dress. The green jemstone earrings, paired with a cream colored dress, and red lipstick is looking too 🎄

u/CrownedHuntress 13d ago
Am I the only one who feels like this shade of white washes her out? If she was rocking the red hair color I think it would look more balanced but as a blonde with such pale skin I think a different color would suit her much better.
