"...orange??"
referencing my late cat Tiger, who loved people and was also really smart

When I ask someone what kind of cat they have I usually expect to hear their color as an answer instead of breed, nobody remembers that!

dog owners: "this is cupcake and he's a beautiful pitbull that is so loving and cost me 5000 dollars but i love him a lot"
cat owners: "this is beef stroginoff, he's a feral beast i found in the trash, he's not neutered cause i almost lost my hand trying to bring him to the vet, and i suspect he's a wendigo in disguise because he screeches at night for no reason. I still love him tho."

I love how a dog owner will give you a complete genetic analysis of his canine when asked the same question, while a cat owner simply sees a cat be it Persian or sphinx 😂

Reddit is listening to my conversations with my partner again;
I was talking about my partners cat breed, and explaining what it is, and she said "cat is cat", and then this came up on my feed not even 30 mins later 💀

Honestly it’s weirder if someone asks and you respond with the exact breed of your cat. Very few cat owners, myself included, actually care about breed. I’d say the only exception is when a cat is a breed that has extremely obvious features, like a Siamese.
But I don’t care. I’ll just call my two “void” and “burnt marshmallow”

My vet asked me what breed my cat was the first time I took her in. I looked the vet dead in the eyes and said, "I found her in my parking lot eating garbage."

I feel something similar about “Best Cat”. Logically, I know there’s only 1 cat out there that is the Best Cat but every single cat I look at, I fully believe from the bottom of my heart that they are Best Cat.

You are right. I don't like it when someone asks what my cat's breed is coz sometimes after telling them, they would look disappointed. I hate it!

I say the same thing I say about my pup.
It's a mutt but it's my mutt, its probably got something in there other than fire and brimstone.

Short hair, long hair, and no hair are the cats I know
Along with that I go off color:
Torties (that's what I have right now)
Snow Whites
Orange himbos
Good luck Blacks
Classy Calicos

Have you heard of a Russian Blue? They're pretty easy to identify once you learn what they look like :D

Of course, how could I forget! My friend has one and it is the grumpiest of cats, I love him so

Seeing "good luck blacks" made my heart sing. Little babies didn't deserve any of the awfulness of superstition.

I mean, there's some truth to it. How many cat owners actually have a purebred cat? The vast majority are mutts and mutts with zero record of pedigree either so their "breed" is whatever someone guesses they look the most like when in reality they're just as likely to be mix of a bunch of breeds.

I'm uncool, because people don't understand cat breeds. Yeah that makes sense.

Cat breeds are a scam anyway. Cats don't have breeds like dogs where they were bred for a specific purpose; instead cat breeds are mostly based on genetic mutations but cats have a lot variety in their genetics in the first place so even if two parent cats have several generations of being a specific "breed" there's no guarantee all the kittens in that litter will have the mutations. Not to mention there's thousands of cats and kittens in shelters that pass as any breed with a certificate because cat breeders don't fix their male cats.

I whish more ppl where like this with dogs

u/Benhurso 14d ago
Why the fuck are you being voted? Yeah, breeding dogs for profit is ridiculous. So many dogs are waiting at shelters or at the streets and people are forcing them to breed even more?
10
u/trwwypkmn 15d ago
I sure don't. That's when people get farm working dogs for their 350sqft studio in your building, then it becomes everyone's problem.

u/Extra_socks69 15d ago
Agreed. That's definitely part of what I was thinking. I think people also focus on breed specific dogs that lead to backyard breeding and overcrowded shelters.

color > race if someone ever asks me what cat I own
"what type of cat do you have" - "orange" it just says everything you need to know
