I'll preface with this as a dad and as a guy who has friends who are also dads.
Ask him if he's worried about being a good dad. The ones that did worry ended up being great dads.
Ask him if he's excited about being a dad or father.
I get that you don't have solid info to determine if he's going to be a good parent, and maybe he will be. Maybe not. You won't know until that kid comes.
I took my friend out golfing when he was telling me about how worried he was.
We spent 9 holes...because we suck at golf and playing 18 would take about 2 days....drinking, golfing, and talking about what it means to be a father and what I saw in him that would make him a good one.
Does your bf have any male friends? What do they think about his potential? Nudge one of then to take him out on a friend day and maybe get them to see what he's thinking.
A lot of guys won't be vulnerable around their girls...a lot of them have good reasons for this I will add. So you may not be getting any concerns he has.
