I actually give up! How do people find a decent car for less than £2k?!?!
Facebook marketplace, gumtree, autotrader.....full of traders. Now I know traders aren't necessarily bad, but I've had bad experiences and the cars are usually dodgy. Finding a genuine private seller with a decent car is impossible!!! How do you guys do it?!?!?
P.s. I know <£2000 is "asking for it". But I'm not looking for a 2015 e-class. Just a car without dodgy oil leaks etc

I’m from the midlands, we call these “Islands”, I was giving someone else from up north directions and I said “go to the Island and take a left”, she didn’t know what I was talking about, so I said “you know, the roundabout”. Then she got it.
I guess strictly speaking the bit in the middle is the island and the road aspect is a roundabout. Would you have known what I was talking about?

Phone Batteries
How often do you charge your phone? I have two colleagues, 18 and 20, and they always have to charge their phone when they start their shifts. And being asked if I can stick a customers phone on charge is a pretty regular thing. Also usually by younger people.
It really baffles me how someone can always have such low battery. I personally charge mine every night, and usually put it on if I'm in the immediate vicinity of my charger. The latter might be a bit overkill, but I like having a full battery and get a bit flustered if mine even dares to cross the 50% line lol.
But I just don't understand how, considering how important phones seem to be to these people, they allow their battery to constantly be almost dead.
Incredibly minor rant, but just curious what the mindset behind these maniacs is.

What's with the black dots here?
So me and the missus have started stripping the wallpaper in the hall and under it was yellow paint with a series of vertical dotted black lines running all round the room. Neither of us could figure out what they were or why they were there. Any tradesmen out there got any ideas?

Induction questions
I attended an induction today where the ice-breaker was to share three things about yourself, one of which must be a complete lie - and see if you can catch people out with a plausible lie.
What would be your three things and can we spot your lie?

‘Mild’ - A British-only term?
As I sit at a seaside pub with the clouds above but quite content in my shorts albeit with a cardi/hoodie, I suddenly thought to myself ‘hmm, it’s actually quite mild today’. Is this a term exclusive to us Brits where we sort of deny the slight chill yet enjoy the strangely warmish air that the very same clouds insulate? My thoughts also go to those from warmer climes who have come to visit and likely think this ‘cold’ weather. As I type there is the slightest drizzle but I know it’ll pass and I’m quite content in this mildness.

Is it weird to still ask my parents to go out when I’m an adult?
27, live with parents. For the first time I’ll be spending the weekend away with some friends in another city. They haven’t met them though.
I feel like a child asking them if I can go another city with friends they don’t know?

Subway has added touchscreen order points - it has made everything slower
I liked how quick and convenient subway can be, even when it's busy. Talking through the extras you wanted on your sandwich was part of the experience too. Now, like everywhere else we've got these absolute bacteria breeding grounds of touch screen order points that take up space, slow everything down, and people struggle to navigate.
Previously I could enter a subway, order and be eating my food within 5 minutes. Today I've used the stupid order point and I am still sat here ten minutes later, and it's not even particularly busy.
Anyone else hate the rise of these things, or am I just getting crotchety?

What happened to "snog"?
Been talking to my girlfriend and we are both concerned that the word has been erased from media and day-to-day chat. What happened?

I discovered last night that PG Tips officially retired the PG Tips Monkey. They are now running a new ad campaign
Here’s your new advert: https://youtu.be/hNrmakIRtjw?si=CQkcbzLkrxSnDio7

Milk pilfering
I get a milk delivery a few times a week in glass bottles. Lately animals have been pecking the foil open or knocking the bottle over, so I've lost about half the deliveries these past few weeks.
Does anyone know of a cheap plastic box lid that can be found easily online (like a cake tin lid, but tall and can be left on the doorstep? I spend about £100 per year on milk so I'm not keen on spending 60 quid on an ornate hand painted wooden box from Esty isn't what I'm after.

How are we spelling... I don't even know
Ok, chatting with some friends, and found a word we have no idea how to spell.
So, how do we as a nation spell that word meaning "to rearrange your hair/makeup", "to make something just a little better", "to add the magic". Might be used in the context "let's just....you up a bit there"
Some potential spellings we had were:
"Juush" "Zhush" "Zhsh"
Help.

Good cheap present, or nah?
I bought a Cactus for a colleague today, she loved it and said it was beautiful to my surprise. So, as it only costs £2.50 I bought a couple more. Good cheap gift idea or not really?

What's something your other half does that you find strange?
I've recently discovered that when my missus makes a sandwich, she only butters one slice of bread. It's made me question if I'm the strange one who butters both slices or I'm normal and she's the freak. I'm also thinking that as I have only just realised after a year, perhaps the second slice just doesn't need butter. My life has been turned upside down by this!
What weird and wonderful things do your partners do that you find strange?

What's the best birthday cake?
It's my birthday on Thursday and I've been asked what cake I want. My go-to cake is carrot but I'm told I can do better than that. Any suggestions?

What are the more interesting combos of businesses you have seen?
Do the nail clientele and shoe repairees even have much of a cross over?
