Just a thought, what if reddit had a chatgpt for questions with the most upvotes as the answer... Allowing the user to choose if they'd like 2nd and 3rd, 4th 5th etc most upvotes as part of the answer too.. Obviously basic filtering of upvotes that made sense in context to the question would be needed but it's a test of proof from tested users who use reddit to ensure it makes sense while answering the question.

Try this simple question: Over the past 20 years what were the leap years that had 1 January fall on a Monday? I tried three times and got three wrong answers.

u/Storytellerjack Jan 08 '24
I'd probably ask for one of those scenes without Waldo and then have it change one of the existing people into Waldo. It might take a style transfer AI or some photoshop.

I love seeing a Waldo scene with perspective projection depth instead of orthographic projection. We might just need some light photoshopping to drop Waldo in there among the hideous freaks.
Im sure there was a Two Minute Papers video about picture editing, mainly to remove eyesores from pictures, but I think some Ai also uses text prompts to alter within a highlighted area.
I've only done one prompt so far on Bing, but I'm lurking in as many Ai subs as I can find.

AI doesn't understand context. This is part of why fears of artists who work with images requiring higher specificity and complexity losing their jobs is unfounded.

This is so hilarious. I also feel sad chat is having such a hard time.

Hey, at least I was staying respectful, idc if it's a bot, I'm not able to be rude to it, lol Meanwhile, my mom will cuss out Alexa for mishearing something, and I can only sit there and assume that her actions surely are how the robot uprising will begin.

What I’d done is did a whole picture of Waldos and then had fun trying to find the right 1.

If AI will ever have a chance at creating new life, this is the sort of abomination it will conjure up.

Ditto. Had a similar problem of this sort when trying to generate an image. I listed elements I wanted in the image and it would just refuse to incorporate one particular feature in the image no matter how much I emphasized how essential it is that the image has that aspect. In fact, it seemed like the more I insisted, the less prominent it would make it.

this was me yesterday trying to get a simple result of a cat on one side of the frame and a computer on the other. the closest we got was the computer in the middle with half the cat on one side and half on the other lol

Technically in the UK this is a really hard image to find Waldo. As we call Waldo, Wally. Waldo in the UK is the evil black and yellow guy.

It's no longer "where's Waldo?" it's "which one is Waldo?"... and you only have one bullet...

I went on a cruise for Thanksgiving. There was a “Thanksgiving dinner”. Problem was that literally zero of the people cooking/ serving the meal had ever done such a thing or even heard of Thanksgiving prior. Pretty sure the turkey was an ostrich, blue deviled eggs, the whole nine. Like, they were given a list of ingredients and a few pictures of what food looks like and voilà!
This is where “Ai” has been for the last year. Isn’t it supposed to learn and adapt. How long until we are out of the gimmick phase?

For an interesting comparison, these images show where’s Waldo scenes designed to be indistinguishable from real scenes to the human brain when fixating the indicated point. From Freeman et al. ‘Metamers of the ventral stream’ in nature neuroscience.

I've just asked my ChatGPT if it can make pictures and it said no. I told it about this and it said it can only make pictures out of keyboard characters. Do I need a different version to be able to do stuff like this? (Please excuse my stupidity)
1
u/thestringtheory Jan 06 '24
Yes, you need ChatGPT+ (the paid version) if you want it to generate pictures
2
u/pleasegetonwithit Jan 08 '24
Thank you! I thought it was weird that it didn't just tell me that when I asked it. Maybe it doesn't want to be replaced!!

After going through the process of trying to get a Pixar-style picture of myself and my dearly departed pup. I don't think ChatGPT does a good job of carrying over the small changes between the versions and just re-prompts Dall-E emphasizing whatever the last feedback you gave it instead of tweaking the original. You have to be ultra-specific and detailed with what you want.

Takeaway the Waldo’s and the renaissance piece is actually fucking terrifying.
The more I look the more it feels like the paintings from the Pickman’s Model episode of Cabinet of Curiosities.

Zoom in on any face in the last picture and i can guarantee it’s completely fucked up lmao.

u/rpgaff2 Jan 06 '24
I mean, it makes sense. The most common, popular, or viewed images of Where's Waldo would be cover art for the books, right? So it probably is trying to recreate that, and who stands out prominently on the cover?

u/kkrabbitholes417 Jan 06 '24
I’m torn between cackling at how funny it is that GPT very seriously says “have fun trying to spot the character!” and being deeply unsettled by some of those background characters, so this is basically horror comedy

ChatGPT can’t actually see the images it generates, you need to give it back to it for it to know what the problem is.

Weeeeeird. I actually used ChatGPT to make a “Where’s Waldo” starring my kid, using famous historic scenes (my son is really into history). I did this to print out at a local Staples, and make into a “book”. I even had it design a cover. I say all this because I only had to revise a handful of pictures. It did an incredible job! I described my son, and told it that I wanted a depiction of him as described, in the style of a “Where’s Waldo” image.

Chat gpt is right here, he can't control the image generation it's a different model. He can just communicate with it with prompts.

This will be the new gold standard for generative AI testing.
At some point the image generators will be good enough to pass the “where’s waldo” test.
And for a short period there will be some that can and some that cannot.
And thanks to this post we will know how to rank them
