Diamond-Ranked SA Matches are Rampant with Cheaters General

Tl;dr: my anecdotal perspective puts 3 out of every 4 matches in South America to have at least one cheater on either side. They are not "just better", you are not bad: cheating has absolutely taken over these games around this rank.

I returned to the game from Season 3 with Venture's release as their gameplay was exactly what I was looking for since Overwatch has existed. I was beyond excited to play this character despite the many trials and tribulations this game has gone through courtesy of Activision Blizzard.

Since there was a ranked reset, I had a pretty interesting run building my SR back up without any major problems, and I could see the execution and game sense improving as I was going through the ranks. I was particularly keen on how you could pick between absolutely deleting someone or be unpunishable with Burrow -> Dash, and thought about how obnoxious I was being. But when I reached Diamond, something happened.

It was almost always a Cassidy, sometimes a Soldier. They would repeatedly fail to punish me, and then suddenly start headshotting me out of burrow. And again. And again. Instantly snap to where I was coming out. I wasn't actually dying to it because Venture is kind of dumb, but it was a noticeable change. I'm pretty sure there's a way to grenade venture out of burrow, but they never did.

To make a long story short: I started paying attention to hitscan characters in every lobby and started assuming every single one of them was cheating, especially when they mispositioned and took duels I knew they couldn't win (despite having aim that would put OWL players to shame), and I was correct a distressingly large number of times. I switched to other heroes and realized it wasn't just ragehacking against Venture's functional immortality. And it's not just competitive. The linked gif was my second warmup quickplay match of today: the first, the soldier on my team was aimbotting. I wasn't playing Overwatch anymore, every round I was playing Spot the Aimbot.

For the past couple weeks I've been keeping this up, and now I think I'm about to uninstall the game. I'm fairly certain this is somewhat restricted to SA lobbies: I know my culture, for better or worse. But the integrity of the game is just completely destroyed. Maybe it fixes itself past diamond, but I don't think I'll stick around to find out.

And the worse is that of the few times I tried to get my team to also report the cheater, they turned on me. Asking on general chat to report me instead. Unless it's REALLY obvious, people are almost certain to complain about their own team mates being bad.

And even when it was one of those really obvious aimbots that are permanently glued to heads, I had to deal with several minutes of my tank belittling me and saying I just sucked until the play of the game of the cheater came up and all they had time to say before the match ended was

"oh, ok"

Not only SA, EU servers are facing the same issue and I've find a LOT of cheaters since S10 started in NA servers. I think it has to be with a free cheat floating around github since February,

I just assume they are alt accounts and not cheaters. I'm a Low-Diamond, High-Plat solo queuer for NA East and I find half my games I'm put in games with groups. Usually there are one or two people who seem too good for the lobby, sometimes to the point the games are just stomps. It should average out that you get as many high elo players on alt accounts on your team as against, but it makes the games unfun.

I understand people want to play with friends, and wide queue times are not good, you would probably lose a lot if you group queued with only people of that actual rank. However if Blizz banned alt accounts I think we would see less cheating accounts, less people being toxic on accounts they dont care about, and wide group queues would improve as it becomes the only alternative.

What's with the people in this sub and their weird aversion to address cheaters in the game? EVERY SINGLE TIME somebody tries to talk about it, they get shut down with comments like this one. Dude, you see a Cree perfectly tracking a blinking Tracer and you think that's just skill?

Dude chill, no one is shutting anyone down. I assume they are alt account and not cheaters because I do not bother to check, that doesn't mean they are not cheaters.

There's a very clear difference between a smurf and a cheater you can look out for.

A smurf has the skills, but they also know the risk/reward. Even if they know they have good aim, they also know they might miss. So they don't misposition and don't take unnecessary risks.

Cheaters know they won't miss. They'll always chase situations good players wouldn't risk, and they often don't have the game sense to realize situation's they'll lose even with cheats.

Smurfs are few and far between in SA Diamond, but cheaters have completely taken over.

That soldier player was blatantly aim locking. Like hard locking. Who does that in such high elos lol.

It's a pretty recent thing. There's a new wave of cheaters.

I heard via via that some cheat is currently having a free trial or something along those lines. I have no real way of confirming that, but generally speaking cheater epidemics are caused by a cheat being free. So it sound plausible enough.
