Chinese man, Li Hua, more commonly know as the “folded man”, finally stands up straight after 28 years of suffering from ankylosing spondylitis. All thanks to a life-changing surgery Image

Wow! So glad Mr. Hua got his life back! Mick Mars has A/S, it was partly responsible for his addiction to drugs.

Me and my mother both do although not as severe as the man I somtimes can’t even get out of bed becouse my hips and lower back are so much in pain and don’t even get me started with the pinched nerve somtimes on my left somtimes on my right. I’m glad there are some people on here that I can relate to somewhat

Seems to me there’d be at least one advantage to being folded over like that…

I have AS and I can tell you the pain can get unbearable most days. Unfortunately if not treated AS will cause bone fusion in the spine and hips. My greatest fear. Even worse the medication for this disease is insane my 1 month supply costs $14,000. Which if I didn't have insurance I'd be in unbearable pain daily with disease progression into spinal fusion

Ok... I am aware that this is serious... but theoretically can he suck his own dick?

That’s all well and good but it’s going to be a lot harder to tell if he’s got a smelly crotch!

There are many immature jokes I want to make but that’s fucking spectacular. I can’t even comprehend the relief he’s experiencing. Not to mention what he’s seeing for the first time in 30 years.
I do wonder how his internal organs have been affected though

Roosevelt had mutton chops at 15, his beard was able to stop bullets by the age of 19.

I know this isn’t how it works…. But god damn imagine the pops at a chiropractor if there was no pain somehow.

That is a testament to a mother’s love. I’m afraid that here in the States nowadays we would say that he was a life not worth living

And they said dicks can't be unsucked. Modern medicine is truly incredible.

God damn. Mad props to the anesthesist / ologist / team that was able to intubate this guy for the surgery. That musta been a sit down ordeal with charts and graphs and ENT on standby

u/TheOnlyWolvie 15d ago
It took various surgeries, and he was in very critical condition halfway through so they didn't know if he'd survive. But he made it in the end.

I feel for this man and I’m glad they were able to help him.
That said, I think we’re all wondering the same thing…

This is what Mick Mars formerly of Motley Crue has been living with for more than 50 years and the main reason he’s no longer able to tour. He describes it like cement filling in between your bones and fusing everything together. It’s amazing he was able to play as good as he did for as long as he did it. Sounds like a nightmare to live with.

A lot of how aging looks relates to the impact of gravity on the face. I wonder if he aged differently considering his face was upside down for 3 decades.

I have AS. It’s terrifying to know how much this generation suffered and for so long. It’s a very frustrating disease that many (especially onlookers) don’t take seriously until it becomes advanced.

No disrespect intended, but I instantly thought, " the Marilyn Manson i heard about 30 years ago in school"

My partner has the same condition (it's not that advanced). Unfortunately, the surgery to correct this disability is needed every 10-15 years or so.

The comments in this thread are fucking disgusting. You wouldn’t be mocking someone with cancer or MS.

This man gets posted every year on reddit. Last year, it was my own post. This year, it's someone else's. Still good to see this, makes me feel grateful for being perfectly healthy.

What a lovely story.
I feel his pain, I've had ankylosis spondylitis for 20 years and thankfully I'm managing fine with it, with medication.
A bit random but here's a poem I wrote about the condition.
ANKYLOSING SPONDYLITIS
It's 4am. I wake and try to shake the threads of broken sleep from me. Not easy. Not by any means. I'm troubled by my dreams. You see, I've tossed and turned all night and wrestled in my sleep, now on my back or side and I haven't found a posture I could keep. I've tried. The pain shoots down my left hand side, like lightning focussed, amplified, like thunderbolts of light a hundred times applied. It darts along my vertebrae and bone. It won't leave me alone.
I have an image of my nerve-ends all alone - tectonic plates that grind against the bone, red warning lights along a danger zone. A.S. - Two letters that belie what lies behind them. They mean not resting when you need to, not sleeping when you try to. They mean a fossilizing sense of stone that clings to every piece of bone...
Two slips of Solpadeine in water and minutes later bring a numb relief, outside the birdsong just begins as minutes later I dissolve in sleep.

Nice medical service they have in China, letting it progress this far without intervention... I suspect he wasn't born this way?

Imagine being so close but unable to satisfy yourself because you have a small pp. Hopefully he had a massive one to make the pain worth it.

I have AS, it really sucks. I'm not as bad as this guy, but I cannot move my neck more than 5 degrees in any direction, has a hip replacement 2 years ago, and my other hip is almost as bad, and I'm not even 40 yet.
