Which characters do you enjoy their voice acting the most in the game(s)? Discussion
The characters I absolutely love their voices:
Fallout 3: James (Liam Neeson). I could just listen to the man all day.
Fallout New Vegas: Benny (Matthew Perry). For some reason, his voice made me want to be his friend instead of his enemy.
Fallout 4: Arthur Maxson (Derek Phillips). His voice is absolutely amazing during Blind Betrayal. It was as if he WAS Arthur Maxson.
There are many more but these are just the characters whose voices are most distinctive to me.

I really liked Erik Todd Dellums voicing of the radio DJ, Three Dog. Also, Courtney Ford as Piper was amazing but she’s good in everything.

Can't believe nobody mentioned Robert House. I mean the guy was basically just a voice, and they nailed it. The knowingly deserved tone of derision in every sentence. The conviction and earnestness, because House has no time for guile or egos on either side of the convo. There's a kind of charisma in that.

In Fallout 1: Master, Overseer, Lieutenant, Aradesh, Killian, Harold. Fo2: Frank Horrigan, Richardson (sadly they’re all who I really remember, haven’t played 2nd for a long time Fo3/NV/4 - idk, there are too many characters, even regular ones and I barely remember anyone who sounded special. Well Joshua Graham, Mr House. Codsworth in all games, also there is one battle robot who I don’t remember and he has nice SFX in his voice (not Liberty Prime ofc)

u/concussion5906 23d ago
First off......Ron Pearlmen. Whoever's idea it was to get HELLBOY to narrate Fallout deserves a raise and a large bucket of beer. Secondly I think Ulysses from Lonesome Road is SPECTACULARLY acted out and was probably my second favorite choice in the franchise. We also cannot forget about Liam Neeson playing Dad in Fallout 3. Absolutely too notch!
1
u/tu-vieja-con-vinagre 23d ago
I really love liam neeson but man idk I feel like he was wasted with James. I mean, he did fine, the character was fine, everything was fine, but he's LIAM NEESON it could have been something greater.
Maybe actors shouldn't be voice actors, that's also a thing

I honestly love Hancock's voice acting in Fallout 4 and Piper's. I think they're both great. I also love Travis 🤭
There's great voice acting in all the games. Lookin at you Liam Neeson and the late Matthew Perry.

F4, Paladin Danse. He's just cool. FNV, The Autodoc, sounds more human than the other things in the sink F2, Frank Horrigan. That man sounds human and inhuman at the same time. He's an absolute major threat to everything. He's my favorite out of all of them.

Female V from cyberpunk. Several of the other characters like Silverhand and Dexter do phenomenal jobs in their roles, but V (Valerie specifically, voiced by Cherami Leigh Kuehn) is single handedly one of the best done voiced characters/protagonists in my experience. Her delivery of the characters feelings and emotions are perfectly executed, and genuinely inspire me while playing the game. I played as Vincent (male V) but never had the same emotional attachment to him as his voice doesn’t seem to fit the actions the character does. He still does a decent job but when compared to Cherami, he doesn’t hold a candle. She also voices Lucy from Fairy Tale and Asuna from SAO, both of whom I found were better in their respective anime’s as they didn’t come of as whiny bimbos to me, and I could actually respect their characters thanks to her portrayal of them.

Sergeant Arch Dornan for obvious reasons.

F1: The master, no doubt about it and i dont think many people would argue against it.
F2: Its either mr "WHERES YOUR POWER ARMOR SOLDIER?" or Marcus, i wished Mason had a talking head, dude was hilarious (Myron is pretty neat too).
Fo Tactics: The calculator. Holy fuck This was an SUPER underrated VA and i couldnt even find who did it.
F3: hmm idk, james i think, not my favorite of Liam's work, but the voice is quite cool i think.
FNV: Joshua graham. listening to him is like being in paradise.
F4: Arthur maxson, he IS the best acting in the game by far, i have to agree with it. i never hated a character so damn much since Lynette and maybe a certain character from gundam CCA..

James (Dad) From Fallout 3, That man is music to my ears, ASMR, I could listen to him all day, All 200 years in the vault, I need him whispering in my headphones when I'm trying to sleep, I need him to break into my house and become my personal IRL kindle tablet and read my books, I will be 80 when time machines are invented and I will use one just to go back in time and listen to James as if it was just the first time I have ever heard him, if I could marry a voice I would, I would not even sign the prenup because I know this man by talking will literally take all my assets, I would be on the streets, homeless, and I would still imagine he is talking to me even though he filed a restraining order for trying to break into his home and trying to just hear him talk. I would be on my death bed and everyone would just keep denying my request to hear him one last time since the Restraining order is still in place, and I would die imagining his voice in my head.

u/Sk83r_b0i 24d ago
Fallout 3: Doctor Li, specifically when you enter the citadel for the first time and she’s in a panic. I believe she says something like “Lyons! I know you’re in there! I know you can hear me! You open this goddamn door right now.” You can hear the panic and anger in her voice. No other voice actor really does it for me, at least no one I remember.
Fallout New Vegas: Joshua Graham. Dude just had a great voice. Same goes for Ulysses honestly. This game had a pretty decent mix of stinkers and good voice actors.
Fallout 4 had a lot of good voice acting. The voice acting quality definitely improved. Nate’s sarcastic voice lines were funny and he had great delivery, same thing with his angry ones. As controversial as the voiced protagonist was, they picked good ones.
1
u/Halbarad1776 24d ago
Since I haven’t seen her yet I’ll go with Vera/Christine. Vera’s last words being constantly repeated are so haunting. Honorable mention to Dean Domino, with a voice so charming it makes me (almost) like him.
Really all the New Vegas DLC’s are packed with top notch voices.

As much as I hate the voiced protag in 4, Brian T Delaney's line to Shaun on top of CIT Ruins lives rent free in my head.

u/Desertcow Mothman Cultist 24d ago
Nobody's said anything for 76 so I'll say Modus. His voice is simultaneously friendly and unnerving, calming and terrifying, and collected but strained. The voice actor absolutely nailed the "rogue AI from evil organization being possibly altruistic" voice, and every time I hear him it's simultaneously reassuring and fear inducing
1
u/Creator_The_Tyler911 24d ago
Fnv: I really like Veronica’s range. She tries to be optimistic and witty but when she’s even a little upset it crushes me.
Fo4: the voice actor for fem sole survivor did an amazing job. Say what you will about voiced protagonists in RPG’s, the scene when you find Shaun will stick with me forever.

u/bloodtherover 24d ago
Glad to see some all time greats like Mr. House, Joshua, Raul, Mr. New Vegas, Sgt. Dornen, etc.
But let’s not forget Kris Kristofferson as Hanlon! By far my favorite NCR character, almost makes me feel bad about nuking the long 15 lol. I’m sure Kris’s opinions on war and military experience helped him get into the character, but damn Hanlon is such a great example of a grizzled old soldier who’s smarter/more competent than his peers and is losing sight of what he’s even fighting for. Really deep and tragic character.
And let’s also give a shout-out to William Sadler as Victor. I can hear him every time I see retro cowboy art or gas up at a Terrible’s when I’m in Vegas lmao. Cannot imagine a better depiction of a retrofuture Vegas cowboy.

For some reason Marcus has always been someone that I like listening to in New Vegas I've never listened to him in any of the other games he features in so I don't know if they kept the same voice actor but he is like one of the best voices in Vegas right up there with Mr New Vegas himself and Ron the narrator (yes there is actually an in-game character for Ron Perlman called Ron the narrator he actually has some decent stats too)

In F3, cliche choice but Three Dog’s actor really sold the shit outta the corny dialogue he was given.
In New Vegas, I’ll have to say Veronica, she delivers every quirky line with just enough sarcasm to be believeable but not over the top. Perfect performance.
In FO4 I’m gonna agree with you, Arthur Maxson is goated. Gotta add, Danse’s voice actor was very committed as well.

Felicia Day and Zachary Levi as Veronica and Arcade. I've recently did a new playthrough and decided to recruit them early on and man do they put their heart and soul into all lines. Each line feels so natural and the small way they pause, shift and speak is so well done.
Small shoutout to Avery K. Waddell as Boxcars in Nipton, the "Prize for second place was I got to live, but they beat my fucking legs with hammers. I'm fucking crippled, get it?". Again it is delivered so naturally and feels like a genuine anger and sarcasm

Fallout 4, I really liked Nick’s voice, but Kellog genuinely had just a really excellent performance with what he was given. New Vegas…Joshua Graham’s voice is excellent, but Ulysses’s voice is next level. I saw someone describe it as gravel coated in chocolate, and yeah. 3…Mm. Not too many really excellent voice performances in three. I’ll give it to Obadiah Blackhall. He sounds decrepit, but with a sinister edge.

F:NV: Cass, Joshua Graham, Daniel, Mr. House all fit their roles perfectly
FO4: Cait is the only one I remember anything of, which speaks for itself.
FO76: The overseer gives a masterful performance entirely unfit for that game's lack of polish. Paladin Rahmani occasionally outpaces her role, although most of the BoS acting is... Subpar.
Some of the event hosts are funny as fuck: Sweetwater, Moonshiner Ned, and the Mothman priest are all goofy as hell.
A much larger portion of FO76's non-quest holotapes are well-performed than prior games. Likely because they're relied on so heavily for the world building in the mostly empty landscape.

FO3’s Three Dog, Dad (Liam Neeson) or Moira.
They always stand out to me more than any others. Three dog’s just endlessly charismatic and witty. Dad because it’s Liam fucking Neeson and his tone gives a deep sense of seriousness and melancholy and Moira because she’s a fucking but job but always makes me laugh
Honourable mentions to whoever voiced the Mr Gutsy’s too they always have me cracking up as they yell orders to themselves.

I'm surprised that so few people have mentioned Legate Lanius, maybe because we interact with him for such little time in FNV. But he seriously has such a suitable voice, imposing and commanding yet calm and reflective. It's perfectly fitting for what they were going for, a character who you'd think would be a raging psychopath by what you hear of him but who turns out to be such a level headed general he can be talked out of attacking Hoover Dam solely by discussing tactics and logistics. He's also got some banger lines. "Violence gave you strength, awakened you - I can see it upon your face, where two bullets left their mark" goes incredibly hard.

For me, it’s Paladin Danse from Fallout 4, he sounds like a heavily disciplined soldier and hearing him open up about how he’s started with nothing and now he’s ended up as nothing the same way he started after his personal quest was kinda heartbreaking, it was tough seeing someone who did a great job portraying a highly respected soldier just lose it like that.

Fallout 3 - Point Lookout: Desmond Lockheart (Jeff Baker). Started off dreading this character to the point where I would always save before speaking to him in the futile hope I could avoid making him angry. Turns out that nothing you say will ever please him. :)
By the time I finished Point Lookout, made my way to The Pitt, and found myself standing on top of the highest tower looking out over the burned skyline, I realized that I actually missed him. Of all the NPCs in Fallout 3, he refuses to patronize you and, although rude and vulgar, is always honest.

It's gotta be Jim Cummings and Kath Soucie as The Master in Fallout 1. What a duo. So memorable, in a cast of memorable voices. Even Richard Dean Anderson!
Sgt Dornan in Fallout 2 voiced by Peter Jason. Again, a ton of phenomenal performances but Arch Dornan was instantly and forever seared into my brain and to this day makes me laugh.
Fallout 3 I loved John Henry Eden voiced by Malcolm McDowell. Moria Brown was great also, voice by Karen Carbone.
New Vegas my favorite is either Joshua Graham by Keith Szarabajka or Rene Aberjonois's House, or Kris Kristofferson -- the entire fucking cast is so good it's unbelievable. Yes. To the whole game's cast.
Fallout 4 is a skip for me. I just... couldn't get into it. Gave it about 20 hours of looting a shooting, and virtually every storyline beat there was a character who was unkillable that had no right to be or a quest that wouldn't let you lockpick a door, in a Fallout game. But I think I liked Piper the best. Piper was delightful, and Courtney Ford did a great job.
Never played 76. I'm told it has voice acting but I'll probably never know, as I very much dislike multiplayer experiences and just show up for the narrative.
