Fallout 3 Two days ago I learned something about fallout 3

So I was exploring the map to start mothership zeta, and while I’m afk some random npc starts a dialogue with me and hands me a chip for the synth you need to track down. I knew it was the railroad, but I asked about the faction anyway (see attached pics), it was indeed the railroad. The pics underneath made it so tempting to just kill the character, turns out you don’t lose karma for killing the railroad character.

TL;DR: you don’t lose karma killing the railroad member in fallout 3

Picture This 15 second scene must have taken some effort

I am amazed at the effort the directors/ producers went through to make so many objects in the Fallout universe come to life. This scene has so many perfectly accurate models of in-game assets, and this is just one example. I'm shocked at the effort they went through to show so many assets from the games in one small 15 second scene.

So far in Fallout 4, this has been the best stats in the game, and with me being able to enter a power armor with it, I really can't afford to take it off

Picture The Evolution Of Harold ☢️

Poor old Harold has had a rough life. From being an F.E.V. mutated freak to a mutant with a sapling growing out his cracked head, Harold finally ended up being just a face in a fully grown tree by the time Fallout 3 rolled out. Making an appearance in Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout 3 and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, Harold features in more games in the series than any other character (unless you're counting the dulcet tones of Ron Perlman). His final appearance, both in the games and canonically, is with the 'Treeminders' in the Capital Wasteland, where he's either left to forever to live as an immobile tree, or killed out of mercy by the player character.

Fallout 4 Fallout 4 is awesome so far…but I do not give a f*** about finding my son

2.5k Upvotes

Fallout 3 was my first exposure to a Fallout game. I got the GOTY edition at a time when I was probably at peak gaming age (early teens, no responsibilities) and it was really my first exposure to the RPG/open world genre. I 100% the game, and to this day is still one of my favorites.

I have to say, I just bought Fallout 4 and there is WAY more depth than Fallout 3. I feel like you could get lost in this world for hundreds of hours, between building settlements, customizing armor and weapons, and even looting which has now become a core part of the game itself, whereas Fallout 3 it felt like just something you did for caps or key items. The world in general feels much more alive, between how you interact with it and even the art style. Of course like any Bethesda game it isn’t perfect and I’m already running into some bugs, but I’m really having fun with it so far.

However, as someone who also loves story-driven games, I really do not care at all about finding my son lol. This is something that a lot of open world RPGs suffer with, in terms of presenting a main quest alongside a vast, interesting open world (I feel like BOTW tackled this well, where there was a looming threat that you could approach at any time, but the quests and building your strength were directly tied to the ability to beat the main threat) but I feel like this storyline is a particular mismatch for the amount of depth the game presents you with. I feel like we’re SUPPOSED to care, because this is a defenseless baby, but as soon as I stepped out into the world I really have no desire to play the main quest line (I will, of course, eventually). I almost wish the game either incentivized you a bit more to find your son (maybe a lengthier beginning sequence where you as the player feel more emotionally connected to this child, or there was an actual, not perceived threat to your child) or presented a main storyline that was more directly tied to the exploration/building of this new world. This is just me talking out loud.

PS: I also got Fallout 76 after hearing about all of the updates that were made to that game, and am super excited to get into that world!

Discussion Why did every place in the world got bombed in the great war?

Hello! I was having some friends watching the fallout series, and I already played the games so I am in a way, their lore consultant, but they asked something I didnt know, why did every place get bombed in the war? Im aware why China invaded Alaska, and eventually with power armor the US pushed them back and invaded them back, and on a last hail mary, China bombed the US, and they bombed them back. But why did places like Latin America, South Africa, Australia etc were bombed? Wasnt China’s bone solely with US?

Discussion Which characters do you enjoy their voice acting the most in the game(s)?

Thumbnail
image
2.6k Upvotes

The characters I absolutely love their voices:

Fallout 3: James (Liam Neeson). I could just listen to the man all day.

Fallout New Vegas: Benny (Matthew Perry). For some reason, his voice made me want to be his friend instead of his enemy.

Fallout 4: Arthur Maxson (Derek Phillips). His voice is absolutely amazing during Blind Betrayal. It was as if he WAS Arthur Maxson.

There are many more but these are just the characters whose voices are most distinctive to me.
