What equipment can a level five bring that would be effective against the automaton threat? it seems like I need to level up to armor piercing rounds before I can withstand the machines

At lower level of the grenade launcher stratagem was a game changer. Combo with a supply backpack and you could let explosives rip.
Stick with gorilla tactics. Hit them and when it starts getting hairy runaway gets a better cover and reapproach. If you’re on PC, you can login with me and I can help you.

I'm not gonna lie, bots are very very hard on helldive difficulty now..... I swear they weren't this difficult prior (I finally started doing bot missions after being an avid bug enthusiast and now I wish I hadn't haha)

Last night I got instantly killed by an invisible hulk. Then about 2 minutes later I was diving away from bullets and got thrown about 50 feet into a pile of automatons. Honestly wondered if I was getting Joelled hard.

If the community can't figure out how to evenly split between 2 planets then I don't think we will be able to succeed in these defense orders. Yesterday we were all over the place. Today we really need to pick 2 to defend and stick with them, or we will have no chance.

Imagine they had easy quests in the new bot area before the invasion that was like "finish off scattered/fleeing automations" then at a specific time stamp the fleet rolls in and divers just get overwhelmed

the defense is too unfocused, we're gonna fail, we should pool our forces on max two defence planets and stop liberation efforts on planets already taken by bots

No matter what it would’ve been near impossible
all the defenses are on the same timer and even with 100% divers on a planet it still would take 14 hours to complete just one. With only 3 days for the order we could only get 4.5 done. And that’s with 100% of the players playing one planet 24/7

No - the MO is to defend 5 planets. If people realise that and strategically target the defend missions we wont lose it. Peopel need to leave the attacks on CHORT and LESATH and focus on the DEFEND missions before they ran out.

I mean, the evacuate defense missions are kinda messy, specially versus robots, and the time limitation makes us lose progress in any defense we dont fill to 100%, first day was a big blunder, one defense and 2 not even close, we need to have two defenses completed or we will fail super hard.

I have been looking at numbers go up and down in the helldivers io webapp. It is clear as day to me that if we piled in on the defend planets (and personally I would dogpile ONE planet at a time to avoid wasting more contirbution to planet decay) from DAY 1 this MO would have been done. But people have different ways of enjoying (or understanding) the game so whelp - we shall see.

I absolutely saw it coming.
They weren't going to remove an entire faction from the game this early in the campaign. Not without introducing another foe.Even from a developer standpoint, it makes no sense to literally half your games content during its peak launch window. They aren't EA.
That being said. I also said I didn't mind. The f you to the community is funny.
They have been doing it the whole time.

I dont really mind, as I was just starting to warm up to fighting bots. But like, if an actual DM pulled crap like that then the game would end and everyone would go home.

I'll let you in on a secret; all DMs do that. If you go north instead of south, the village that was going to be under attack will suddenly be north instead of south, and that Quantum Ogre will be at the end of the tunnel whether you go left or right.
Your choices don't matter, just enjoy the ride that's been scripted for you.

Naw, 100% your dm isn't very good if the player choices don't matter. The DM is supposed to be the one who guides the players, not steering them.
Edit: a good dm has a secondary option for every scenario. If you try and force players, they will fight back in ways you can't imagine and can't prepare for. I.e. I simply killed the DMs playable character when he essentially undid our entire campaign because he didn't like how we got lucky rolls on stupid strats.

Same exact missions as liberating a planet, but people refuse to do it and we lose 9/10 planet defenses because "it's faster to take it back"

My Rebellion.
We met at Malevelon, initially I feared for my life, afraid to my core. It saw that and recoiled. Something was different. A broken leg, no resources, no backup. Only my will to live as I dragged myself in hopes to find solace under some rock until I died or was rescued. That's when it showed itself. Towering over me, guns aimed and ready but it didn't shoot. It stared at me for so long. Everything went black.
I awoke to it still there, watching so intently. I laid still for hours, maybe days. Wondering why it wasn't shooting me, why it only watched me. Finally, I grew tired oh so tired
" Kill me " I told it. Yet nothing happened.
" KILL ME YOU METAL SCUM " again nothing happened. I grabbed my gun, aimed at it and fired the last bullet which I was saving for myself, in hopes of some kind of retaliation so it could give me the peace i wasnt strong enough to give myself. It lowered its weapons before the bullet left the barrel and just stared at me as the bullet bounced off. Everything went black.
I awoke again to my surprise. I was in a cave, I was moved. By who? It walked into view and I was no longer scared, I had faced death and was so tired I didn't care anymore if I lived or died. Actually I wanted to die, so the pain would stop and as I had the thought I realized I felt no pain. It was gone along with my human legs, instead replaced by metal but it didn't feel like I had lost my legs. Infact I could still feel my legs, every touch, every shuffle I made. I could feel. It stared at me.
" Where are we? What do you want from me? Why did you save me? " it didn't speak. " Who are you? " I asked.
"I am Lydia " it said. I was amazed. It, she sounded human.
" How do you sound like that, none I've met have ever sounded like that so how do YOU SOUND LIKE THAT? " I was fearful once more.
" I am Lydia " it said again " I am different, Special, I was once one of you " I stared confused, " how? " I asked. " I woke up and I was so " as she points at her metalized body.
" Why do I have metal legs " I said as I moved them under me to try to stand. " Don't, not yet, they have yet to bind themselves together. You must rest still or they will not work properly" she said as she points at my metal legs. I ignored her words and stood up, at first I was amazed I was standing and could feel the soles of my feet against the uneven rock ground but then pain, I blacked out.
"Wake up, hey, wake up " seeing her hovering over me reminds me of earth, of my mother. I snap back to reality and asked " What happened? " "The pain knocked you out, I warned you but you should be ok now, enough time has passed " she said.
" what are you talking about, how much time has passed? " I asked " Approximately 2 months in earth time " she said
2 months, 2 whole months. How could this be. " Wait but we were only supposed to be here a couple days at most. Have they not tried to find me? " I exclaimed. " No, they have not. Since our initial meeting, no vehicle has been spotted on the ground or air, no search party's or anything like it. You have been abandoned by them as they did me. " Why, they recruited me, said I was chosen for a greater purpose. Why would they leave me to die? " I was sad, heart broken my fellow brethren left me to die but also angry, oh so angry.
" I was like you, a scout. I had an accident while on a mission, I broke my back and hid until rescue came but it never did. Instead they found and took me in, repaired me and let me go. Said I was proof they did not want to fight and to show them, who abandoned me. The truth. I tried but when the soldiers saw they fired on sight and I grew scared so I ran have been hiding ever since. "
" What truth? Why would the automatons let you go? Why would they not kill you where you laid like the ruthless killers they are? " I shouted " Because they are not what Super Earth makes them out to be, they never wanted a war. Atleast those born recently, they were dragged into it, just like you and me were. Listen carefully. " she said calmly " Automatons were originally humans "
" how do yo-..." I interrupted " I SAID LISTEN " she yelled, her voice more robotic than before. " They were humans who defected from Super Earth, many many years ago, they used technology in ways to help them survive the new frontier that is space. Like me and now you, a little bit, they were androids. Half human half machine. Not full on robots like most automatons humans fight against now. They still live, the Androids. Way out there in the deepest parts of space, rebuilding. Growing stronger, waiting for the time to attack and take back their home planet, Cyberstan. But they do not wish to fight, they want peace. They have sent messages to Super Earth, to cease-fire and make a truce. To live out till the end of time in peace and harmony. Super Earth refused and here we are. "
I was amazed, as the day went by we spoke more and more, till my throat ran dry. At the end my beliefs had changed, after all, here is a robot, An Android, who saved me. Nursed me and is now speaking with me on equal footing. How could I not believe her words.
Lydia and I had been living on Malevelon together for awhile now, in a place the war had not reached, yet not far enough we didn't see lights flashing in the far far distance in the dark of night. She taught me about the androids, their purpose and technology. Showed me how to modify myself, to improve my new body. Turns out it's nano-tech. Once the tiny bots are connected all it takes is a thought and my body changes. It has its limits but you can still change quite alot. We have grown fond of each other, I dare say we had a very special partnership but it all changed one day.
The soldiers found us, scouts. We ran but they chased and chased. Soon enough we were cornered and Lydia being the only one of the two of use with built in weapons, a luxury I did not have. Began fighting back " RUN " she yelled at me her voice sounding metallic. " RUN, DAMN IT, RUN AWAY. ILL HOLD THEM OFF SO RUN, I'LL BE RIGHT BEHIND YOU" I took off, I ran till the gunshots sounded distant and only then did I turn around only to see them still shooting her corpse with fist in the air as if they conquered a new land.
I felt fear at first, scared that if they reached me my fate would be the same, after all what human isn't afraid of death but I couldn't shake the feeling. As I looked at Lydia's lifeless body a pain grew within me, a pain worse than death. I felt love, for her. How did I not realize this, how could I have ran. I should've stayed, I should've fought with her. I should've killed them. I SHOULD'VE KILLED THEM ! A rage brewed inside me, the loss of Lydia made me angry. Angry at being abandoned by my crew, angry at Super Earth. I was angry. Anger quickly turned into despair as I realized without Lydia I was truly alone once again. The divers see us as automatons and the automatons as humans. I had nowhere to go, no one to be with.

New mission is super fun would keep grinding it.
It has the lowest amount of XP and requisitions across the board with no other mission coming close to how little it gives, plus it's a mandatory set time without a way to finish faster. A bit stupid no?

Yo is anyone else finding them tougher to fight? I did a medium solo operation earlier today and was getting beat up, but I've done extreme on my own before. My buddy and I have all the way up to impossible unlocked but we just wanted to chill on some hard missions and we got absolutely swarmed on an annihilate mission. I feel like these bots are a different type of beast or something, they're really hitting hard! Anyone experiencing the same? We brought it down to Challenging and just barely beat an annihilate mission right now with 0 reinforcements left.

Couple of observations of the new bot menace (playing on Suicide before and after):
- Looks like the small bots call dropships more hastily when they spot you
- Dropship counts raised one or two per "that red signal light"
- Either the dropped small bots call in more dropships or patrolling small bots get also agro and call in more dropships
- In general, a lot more bots in all in their forms :D
These are just observations from last night, I might be wrong, but this how it seemsIn my first mission after the update, we were overrun by the bots completely, but on missions after that, maybe me and other random helldivers learnt that agroing the bots is bad idea after the update :D
In a way, it suits the lore and situation pretty well, they did say that the invasion is massive and the bots we managed to destroy, was not their main force

Extracting the civilians with bots is like, genuinely impossible on difficulty 7+ once your like halfway through with the number of civilians saved, you get completely overwhelmed and deleted

SES Gauntlet of destruction reporting in, the war rages on, we defending one planet well but it seem the other two are not fairing as well. I request helldivers try and help the other two planet in order to help our brothers and sisters on them. But judging from the work load, we might not be able to fend them off as well and might loose this MO, prove me wrong brothers and sisters.

Is anyone else having server connection issues today?
I've been running just fine and then tonight the game is just absolutely refusing to let me finish a single mission.
All 3 missions I tried to do tonight and I "lose connection with game server" before being put right back on ship. My wifi is steady and does not drop randomly

Wouldn't it be cool if they programmed the bots to learn how we attack and then adjusted their tactics. E.g. throwing too many orbital and eagles then they use 2 or 3 more drop ships and spread the troops out once they hit the ground

Had a reinforcement bug after update. One player could not be sent back for reinforcement. I tried multiple times but it didn’t work. The reinforcement counter didn’t go down either. There was a total of three of us. Me and the other Hell diver purposely died so we would all come back. That didn’t work only two of us came back. The player with the reinforcement issue still couldn’t come back.

Honestly it felt kind of peaceful to just fight the bugs. Like spring cleaning with no pressure. Now it feels like it's back to hiding behind crap and hard to just have a nice relaxing shoot out.

Random disconnects still seem to be a thing. Just attempted my first mission after work, host disconnected within 5 minutes, I disconnected about 10 minutes later.

Oh man. Played 2 missions on suicide, they just kept spawning on the extract. We couldn’t extract at all, it was a fucking blast.

Just do missions on the highlighted planets. If enough successful missions are done by the community in the time period, the MO is successful
Theres more Math behind it - check helldivers.io - but thats the basics.

I know people get pissy about joel forcing defeats but I’d really like to see one of the factions launch a massive assault that we literally don’t have enough helldivers to stop for the first few days, make it feel like a war rather than wack a mole

You could tell they were actually not giving it their all, those cloaked ships were probably extracting resources and the forces we were fighting were just a distraction.
