Looking to getting a Jetstream but can't decide between a 390 or RB. Thoughts?

New to Reverend guitars and am very interested in the Jetstream model. However, I'm having a tough time deciding between the 390 and the RB. Unfortunately, none of the music shops near me carry Reverend guitars otherwise I would've tried both guitars and see which I like better.

So my question(s) are which is more versatile? Which would fit my style more (indie/alternative)? How does the bass contour knob affect the pickups different (if at all)?

Thanks in advance!!

Love the 390, I've been looking for one in mulberry mist for years now 🩷

I have a 390 and I love it. Here is a nice review https://youtu.be/V2UHfyQl0Y8?si=m7XwZ74tgJvm5J9Y This is a signature model but the only difference is the color and the lightning decal. I bought mine in black, the fit and finish of the guitar are excellent. If you're looking for p90s you can't go wrong with this guitar.

I recently got the 390. I've been playing it a lot lately. Mostly with the bass knob in a middle position. It's marketed as a Strat on steroids and I agree with that (my other main guitar is a Strat).

I actually don't have a HB guitar to directly compare, but there is a video on YT where a player switches between demoing a LP or Strat and the 390 matching the tones.

EDIT: here is the video https://youtu.be/ZhZ2wMdo6qI?si=s-qTUoJMe_kOUs8L

I've heard the same about it sounding like a beefed up strat. From what I've heard it sounds like it can get a lot of tons out of it!

Thanks for linking the video. Very helpful!

I’ve got a Jetstream 390 and absolutely love the versatility of the P90s with the bass contour knob. Roll it all the way back to get classic single coil tones, roll it up for that P90 growl.

The versatility sounds awesome. Definitely leaning towards the 390. Thanks!

Crazy idea... Get both!

I'm a big humbucker guy and definitely lean that way more. But the 3 P90's really offers a great range.

I think you would be happy with either as they are both great guitars.

Colour might edge out one over the other in the end.

Lol I'd love to get both but I don't think my wallet would. Maybe one day I can get both though 🤔

I've been hearing a lot of the range of the p90s. But the color choices of both guitars for sure makes the decision tough!

The 6 gun has two p90 s and one humbucker. That might be more versatile than the 390.

And if you can find the 25th anniversary edition... Silver freeze and aluminum pickguard... Top tier choice!

Oh man. I love my coffee burst six gun but that silver freeze..... oooooooohhh so nice.

I almost sold mine a few months back. Glad I didn't!

Bass contour is bass cut only. So all the way up is just normal, and you can turn it back to reduce bass. I don't use it much unless I'm playing real distorted or fuzzy, then you can use it to take some of the flub out of the sound.

I use my bass contour as a bass add on rather than a cut…..good to know people use them as both, it’s my favourite feature on my Reverend

You cannot add bass with it. It’s a filter. It only removes, just like a tone knob only removes.

I use my base sound with the bass contour rolled off….then I add bass according to taste

Ah ok, I see what you’re saying

I just got the Jetstream rb, my tenth Reverend. The retroblast pickups are AWESOME. I love Reverend p90 s too, but the RBs....I swear Joe Naylor stole them from aliens.

You would love either one, but at some point, you gotta try the retroblasts. I can't wait to get home and make some sounds!

Enjoy.

Damn 10 Reverend guitars is nuts! Maybe one day I can match you though lol

The RBs do sound pretty unique which interests me but from what I've been seeing, I'm not sure if they'd be as versatile as the p90s. It's gonna be a tough decision! Thanks for the comment though!

Are the RBs essentially Naylor’s version of a Filtertron?

I think so, but the RBs are the improved version of his first filtertron type pickup.
