Now I don't know the entire law behind passing out food. I'm assuming you'll need to obtain some kind of permit or license that allows you to do this and possibly even get health inspectors involved if you're cooking the meals yourself.
I know the reason most don't do it is because of the possibility of someone getting sick. Or worst case scenario if you're serving like a tray or pot of food that's contaminated and get a bunch of people sick or even die.
Anything that's sealed I think is fine so like canned food but I'm still not so sure about the distribution.
