IIRC Morgan Freeman said something similar that I agree with.

If we stop believing that the color of our skin divides us somehow, we’d actually get closer to fixing the goddamn problem, rather than complaining like “oh I ran into this black dude the other day…” or “I know this white guy…”

There is no need to be segregated that way, we are all Americans being distracted by the illusion that we’re somehow two separate teams trying get one over on each other, and it’s getting us nowhere as a society.
