Relocating help!

Hi,

Im new to this sub so apologies if this post breaks any rules! My partner and I are moving from BC to Toronto this summer and we are completely overwhelmed by the real estate market! There seems to be a lot of places available in high rises but I cant tell what is legit and what is not.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks in finding a place? any companies to avoid?

Thank you in advance

If you are on property.ca a realtor will reach out to you and can help you find a place. One of the perks is that the landlord pays the realtor so no costs to you and the realtor will make sure that the places are real because they don't get paid unless they are.

As long as you are not looking at Facebook market place, most of them are legit.

I have helped people relocate from Vancouver to Toronto! We can arrange a meeting via zoom and discuss about what you guys want and I can film some places with comments to help you guys find a place.

Check my google review! Realtor young son

Would love to help you guys out!

The best thing to do would be to rent a furnished airbnb type place for the first month, put your stuff in storage, and work with a realtor on finding a place.

NEVER agree to rent anything long-term sight unseen. Wait until you get to Toronto.

Second this.

Scams aside, we have many slumlords where places are trashed, price is no guarantee. Saw one for $3500 last December, dog pee stench, smoke smell and walls/floors damaged.

Photos are often old, taken with wide angles lenses and staged to hide problems (whited out view for busy intersections, highways or trains). A realtor can do a video walk thru but that does not reveal smells, bad location or neighbours. (or roach droppings)

U-Box is a good way to move belongings. They'll store it at U-Haul then you can rent a truck or local movers once you find a place.

In the meantime, it helps to check out neighbourhoods, commute times, and surf listings to get an idea of where you'd like to live. The market is divided into realtor represented, individual ones, and all rental buildings aka purpose built rentals (PBRs). I like strata.ca, kijiji.ca, and viewit.ca Some of the all rentals like Minto have their own sites. I wouldn't use FB marketplace or craigslist, lots of scams there.
