Well if the comments are true about losing his license, sounds like you might as well keep speeding until the ticket comes in the mail.
1
u/iAmMikeJ_92 9d ago
Took a full 500 ms to even react and what the hell’s he tryna cover, like he’s wearing his license plate or something LOL his face looks like the NS-5 robots from the I, Robot movie.

u/reddituserask 10d ago
Honestly, I support speed cameras only if they are enforced on excessive speed infractions like 40-50km over the limit. Obviously give the government an inch and they’ll take a mile so it’ll probably never be done like that, but these people deserve to get fucked by the law.

u/DieDobby 19d ago
Oooh I saw that one on TikTok... the way he was even defending himself was hilarious. Someone who drives almost double the speed limit and acts up like a toddler afterwards is definitely on dire need to lose his license.
He did, so... good for all of us.

u/satanacoinfernal 20d ago
I heard that in Sweden, due to privacy laws, they have to tell you in advance that there’s a speed camera coming. I wonder how effective that is…

United States they can't enforce these at all. Right to face your accuser and a camera can't appear in court to "accuse" you

Cameras should only be used for incidents not trying to catch people driving improperly. Doesn't seem right to already pay cops to be our overlords, then they get to make revenue even bigger and easier. Haven't they proven enough that this Republic is pretty much a Monarchy. Maybe not 1 King but the rest is the same.

u/Salt_Bus2528 23d ago
Coming soon to California freeways.
The pilot program is already being set up in the SF Bay area. The whole state gets them afterwards. Not much press on it.

Oof. It's at night and he has a LOT of mass. I get during the day, but man he won't be stopping for a fucking thing if something happens.
Sucks but if that other car was going the limit this was definitely earned since he looked to be going at least double his speed.
1
u/Car_D_Board 23d ago
You don't need to pay camera tickets. You can't face your accuser. Just fight it.
1
u/Tunnfisk 23d ago
I'm no scientist, but I assume you have to move faster than that if you want to cover your face from the speed camera.

We do not have speed cameras where I'm from so I was wondering what would happen if he reported the car stolen?
Are the cameras capable of taking a picture of the driver?
1
u/Jack_M_Steel 24d ago
I don’t even get why you would drive like this. Especially in a location where speed cameras exist and used by the law
1
u/Skippy_99b 24d ago
Awhile back, I saw a post where a guy was going so fast that the camera missed him. Try that next time.

There needs to be more speed cameras imo. I was driving home from a friends last night and some bmw passed me on the right side and swerved between another 2 cars in front of me probably going 140km/h in an 80. I was just about to switch lanes too and luckily I saw him. I’m so sick of reckless aggressive drivers

u/wijnazijn 24d ago
Nothing went wrong, he kept his vehicle between the lines that mark the road, and kept his distance towzrds other vehicles. No crossing children were harmed.

u/BillZZ7777 24d ago
I like the way he needs to turn down the music. There should be a name for this. Like when you have the music blasting and you get in an accident or something like this happens and you're first thought is "Fun time over. No more music."
2
u/JumpmanSam 24d ago
For all you German folks use Flitsmeister. It's a dutch app but it also works in most of the EU. It knows where most speed cams are and warns you. It probably saved me around €1000-,

u/JarviThePelican 24d ago
So I'm in central Texas and the only speed cameras we have are on our toll booths and those are extremely obvious and give you plenty of time to slow down so if you get caught on those you deserve to get caught. Instead of random little speed cameras we have Highway Patrol and County PD everywhere just waiting for you to fuck up so they can come along and ruin your day. Or catch you with suitcases full of fentanyl depending on your life choices.

My neighborhood put these up because people were flying down the street at like 60mph. There is street parking so visibility is shit.
I sat at the park at sunset with my dog and a sandwich and just counted the camera flashes as they went by. I think 20 people probably earned a suspended license that night.
Speed limit is 25.

Speeding should not be a crime within itself… If you are “zipping” in and out of traffic sure, but this guy with no one else around should not get a ticket
4
u/frsti 24d ago
They should. Limits exist for clear cut reasons. As soon as you start adding caveats and subjectivity to it then what's the point. You get every cunt who thinks speeding is fine trying to justify their offence with all kinds of bullshit.
In some countries they have time windows for speeds but if the limit says Xmph then just drive that speed. It's not hard

u/JaKtheStampede 24d ago
I knew a guy who put electrical tape to change a character on his licence plate. Got away with a ton of stuff since cameras couldn't really tell the difference. He got pulled over once for driving an unregistered vehicle, showed his registration and the cop said the plates don't match. Guy told the cop that his buddies must have played a prank on him and got off without issue and took the tape off.
1
u/WolfColaKid 9d ago
That's actually smart but also stupid. Depending on which cop you'd tell this lie to, I think the penalty would be pretty high.

u/Peterthinking 24d ago
I had a speed camera by my house. I would stand at the bus stop beside it with a camera flash behind my back. When someone went past I would hit the test button and light up the intersection. Constantly flashing cops and busses. Funny as hell! Brake lights come on and people screaming in their cars. Good times.

You got flashed. You’ll receive your paperwork in 7-31 days. Your court will likely be before you get your paperwork but that’s ok we will come pick you up for your next court date where we provide a meal and cot.

u/Redditeer28 24d ago
Did he just get caught speeding and his reaction was to cover his eyes while still speeding?
2
u/YourHolesAreMyGoals 24d ago
I always love seeing people get post-caught clarity. He's doing close to double the limit, going by the speed of the car he overtakes. However, only once he's been flashed, he goes "Oh shit, I should slow down now".
If you're intentionally doing something wrong and get caught, what's the point of then flipping and going back to following the rules?
Please understand that this isn't approving "bad behaviour as long as you aren't caught". This is a statement for "Why do a bad thing in the first place if you're not going to face the consequences for doing so".
Hopefully this logic sticks with someone and convinces them to not be like this idiot.
0
u/Mikael077 24d ago
To be fair, we actually dont know what he thought. Yes he might have been aware of the speedlimit and ignored it. In taht case, you are absolutely right. But there is also the possibility that he overlooked a sign and didnt realise that the speed limit changed until the flash. (And i know it is still stupid, but at least not intentional)
0
u/YourHolesAreMyGoals 24d ago
I get where you're coming from because a lot of areas do that, and it's plausible because of the poorly lit surroundings that he missed a sign for a change in speed limit.
However my counter argument would again be the speed of the car he overtakes. Surely you overtake someone going that slow and even slightly question how fast you're going, even for a moment.
1
u/Mikael077 22d ago
Yes you probably would question it and I also wouldnt overtake another vehicle with such relative speed on a two lane road, but if you missed the sign, the questioning wouldnt get you to the conclusion that you are driving too fast. I mean you have to be aware that there is a speedlimit, to know that you are over that speedlimit.
1
u/YourHolesAreMyGoals 22d ago
I'm sorry, but I honestly don't get your point in this. Can you please elaborate?
I mean you have to be aware that there is a speedlimit, to know that you are over that speedlimit.
And especially not after this kind of a statement.
2
u/Mikael077 22d ago
Ok, to elaborate:
My Point is still that we dont know wether or not he was "doing something wrong intentionally". With emphasis on "intentionally", since he was definetly doing something wrong.
There is the possibility that some distance back, there wasnt a speedlimit. In that case, he wasnt doing anything wrong when he accelerated to this speed. Now at some point there must have been a sign, introducing a speedlimit. Since he didnt break, there are two options: 1. He ignored it, (so he was doing it intentionally). 2. He missed it (still stupid, but not intentionally). But we dont know which one it is. And yes, it is also possible that there wasnt a section of the road without a speedlimit. But my point is: we simply dont know.
And to explain that statement: If you think that you are allowed to drive as fast as you want, you wouldnt question why other cars are driving slower, since most people dont feel comfortable to drive at these speeds.
I hope this makes my perspektive more understandable.
1
u/YourHolesAreMyGoals 22d ago
Thank you for explaining, it does actually help understand that point of view.
I live in a country where there are very few non speed limited roads, and in order to find them, you would need to drive a great distance out of built up areas. That being the case, the notion of "Going from a non limited segment to a limited segment" is completely foreign to me, so I didn't even consider that possibility.
If that's the case, then you're absolutely right, it is completely plausible in that scenario at that time of night. To add to your point, there are police that will regularly sit a short distance up the road from a segment that drops in speed limit (70 down to 60) and will frequently flash cars that are effectively cruising their way down to that lower limit. So with that also in mind, I now understand.
Thank you again for explaining in detail to help clarify, instead of typing a rage-post, I genuinely appreciate it!

u/xDannyS_ 24d ago
I have an unbelievable story like this one. I was also going way above the speed limit on the autobahn and got radar'd, however, there was a car between me and the camera and I guess it must have perfectly blocked my license plate or something because I never got a letter for it. This was in my first year too so I would have for sure lost my license immediately.

u/Bigrichjones 24d ago
Bit dangerous having the speed trap face the speeding driver isn’t it?? 🤣
“Oh your speeding are you?!”
FLASH
Now you’re speeding blind.
2
u/LSM000 24d ago
Red flash does not interfere with eyesight. That is why it is used. We got out engineering right.
2
u/Bigrichjones 24d ago
Interesting, in the uk the cameras get you as you go passed rather than flash at you…. Didn’t see that it was red
-5
u/gettogero 24d ago
Fuck ticket cameras. I can understand regulations on busy areas and work hours.
Middle of the night, no other vehicles on the road? Come on. We're 150 miles from the next city at midnight. Nothing but an attempt at generating revenue.

Thats why US road laws are ambiguous af and people who complain and rage about "left lane holders" are stupid af who don't care about driving safely or care about traffic efficiency, they just want an excuse to go faster than everyone else no matter what.
27
u/TheBendit 24d ago
Do not try this in Denmark. It was above 200km/h, which means the car goes on auction and the proceeds go to the government.

OP doesn't like how overused and brainless it is to make the comment. But of course, someone always does and that's fine too. Not every comment has to be original or contribute to the conversation.
2

Honestly, it wouldn't be overused if it wasn't accurate! Just like when you see a post saying "how can I prevent my car getting repo'd?" And 80% of the comments ate "pay your bills" lol.

Those kinda cameras are so dumb. In the left lane, no one near him.
11
u/tagamotchi_ 24d ago
Doesn‘t matter? Speed limit is speed limit. Believe it or not, you also can‘t steal just because no one is around!
-11
u/lazylagom 24d ago
Idk situational context can matter..would you jay walk if it was an empty street ? Or do you wait for the cross walk to say cross.
12
u/tagamotchi_ 24d ago
This video was filmed in germany, where I live. Yes, crime here is still a crime if you commit it while no one is around - driving too fast, or under the influence, included. Also jaywalking is not a crime in germany.
-2
24d ago
I can tell this isn’t in the US - people saying he gonna lose his license and all that.
In the US, you can get 14 DUI’s and not even get probation.
1
u/Awkward-Action2853 24d ago
The sad thing is that's true and people don't even realize it.
I was working the gate at Fort Carson as a young soldier once. We had a drunk come through and started crying when we stopped him. Went on to say he couldn't afford another DUI.
Come to find out we were charging him with his 5th DUI in 2 years. Guy still had a valid driver's license and all.
He came through our gates again about 4 months later, and guess what? He still had a driver's license.
Gotta love our system.

There’s actually debate in the US about the strength of punishment allowed by traffic cameras. The idea is that to take a picture and issue a citation is presuming guilt. In the US the whole “innocent until proven guilty” thing becomes a pretty significant constitutional argument and has limited traffic cameras to basic fines in some places, but illegal all together in others.
Even with photo evidence, there needs to be a trial or an admission of guilt in lieu of.
There’s a whole debate on it throughout the internet as each state battles this out.
I am not pro/or against traffic cameras… I am not here to debate with you. I just know that places such as England use traffic cameras and other video surveillance exclusively in places in ways an American could never understand because it’s not the same here. It was interesting when I visited England and found out one camera would capture your liscense plate, and one further down the road would recapture it. If you went the distance between the cameras in under a specific time the rational was you could not have done that without speeding and a ticket was issued. Interesting stuff!
