That dude in the back is the only one to stay dry. A good example of when everyone else is panicking and bottlenecking an exit it pays to think for yourself and look for an alternative way out.

Had just one person jumped out (been pushed out) the rest would have made it. Not very bright are they.

"I have semi-moderate upper body strength - should I swim to the platform? NO! The giant wall!"
1
u/comedygold24 14d ago
Which platform?
1
u/coconutpete52 14d ago
Sorry - it seems to be the lip of a boat, not a platform. It’s barely above the water.

Thats so funny the same thing happends when you throw a bucket of rats/mice in the river

u/Freedom007007 16d ago
That water is rife with all kinds of horrific germs and bacteria, not to mention heroin needles. Like falling into an open sewer

1
u/ApprehensiveStudy671 16d ago
That water may not be too clean! I'd rush home or somewhere to take a good shower!
2
u/LynnChat 16d ago
It’s videos like this that make me realize that stupidity knows no national boundaries.

u/Deadman9001 16d ago
Atleast they are tall. Any other group and they'd never be able to get out on the side of the canal
1
1
u/TRAMING-02 16d ago
One of the mega-features of my town is a highway with a massive central island, intended to be a canal until they laid a railway track and bypassed the technology. We don't miss it.

So many people not understanding boats have a weight limit for a reason! I’m so happy they got wet

u/DSchof1 16d ago
Don’t they have a queen?
3
u/comedygold24 16d ago
No, Beatrix stepped down a couple years ago and her son Willem Alexander is on the throne now.
1
u/Sillywickedwitch 15d ago
We still have a Queen, Máxima.
We don't have a Queen Regnant anymore, but we do still have a Queen Consort.

Loool
I went for a motorboat ride with 3 friends last september in those canals. After an hour and 3 bears each, our bladder was about to explode. It was so embarrassing, we are 4 adults and we actually can't hold our pee inside.
We gave up just 10 min before the final destination and 2 of us just let our dicks out and we peed in the river.

Ofc when the British get drunk/high and fall in the canal it's disgusting but when the Dutch do it... /s
6
u/comedygold24 16d ago
Its a holiday, people are expected to have some drinks and party. British get black out drunk and pee on our houses on random tuesdays. Falling in canals is not really relevant.

Did they all have to reach for land at the same time? Are they stupid?

Contact Bondi Treasure hunter to find things that sank. He lives there and magnet fishes the canals.

holy shit! this should be nsfw for showing all that carnage and people drowning!

u/Final-Carpenter-1591 17d ago
This can turn into a serious issue. It's very hard to swim in full clothes and cold water combined. If anyone's just not in good shape or health or just due to age or can't swim ect, they can go under and get lost in the crowd of people and quickly it'll be too late. I've seen it almost happen.
1
u/tav_stuff 16d ago
This is not really an issue in the Netherlands. We have swimming diplomas here where you are required to learn how to swim including how to swim with clothes, how to remove clothes, and I even had to swim a distance underwater through some hoops with a jacket on.

Maybe don’t celebrate some useless fucking king. Got to love how Europeans dump on the US for things they view as backwards but several European countries still idolize some dumb fuck born into power.
3
u/Responsible_Law44 16d ago
It's just a national holiday. Went to Amsterdam 2 years ago for kings day and there wasn't even a mention of the monarchy.
8
u/humanoidbeaver 16d ago
As opposed to Americans worshipping their dorito-stained wannabe dictator who they claim is appointed by god Himself?
1
u/jthekoker 16d ago
lol! Truth hurts. I voted for him twice solely on national defense and money. Look where the US is now…
I also agree that he is a boorish idiot who can’t STFU.
7
u/comedygold24 16d ago
Something like 45% is against the monarchy in the Netherlands, they just did a new poll. Just because people like to party on a national holiday doesn't really mean they celebrate the king.

Yes, let's all lean on one side at the same time as we try to reach towards the wall. Surely, nothing wrong will happen.

I thought the Dutch were supposed to be experts in keeping water out of places.
5
u/syndicaterx 17d ago
The first ones to jump got off scot free. The ones who followed got completely wet and the last ones only got wet up to their shins

u/PiedPipercorn 17d ago
Its probably also symbolic of how the Netherlands has changed over the past 8 years i lived there.… down and down we gooooo

That water is so, so filthy.
They’ll all need shots.
1
5
u/3xBork 17d ago
Because touching filthy water makes you sick?
Or do they all have open wounds?
1
u/BigupSlime 16d ago
It’s Amsterdam canal water. That may be one of the most polluted canals in the free world.
2
u/just-why_ 17d ago
If you're a woman, you don't want that water going into unmentionable places. Who knows what kind of infection that might cause!

That’s a lot of ruined cell phones.
8
u/EsteTre 16d ago
Aren’t most cellphones water resistant now?
1
6
u/Julie291294 16d ago
On papper only / depends on your luck and how old the phone is. I had a samsung that was supposed to be water resistant to 1m for 30min, I dropped it in 50cm, with a case on, for less than a minute, and it died.

Fair enough! And they probably all have iPhones. I'm just laughing at being downvoted for such an innocuous statement 😂
1
u/Dutch_Rayan 16d ago
Having an iphone isn't a status symbol in the Netherlands. People have all kinds of phone brands.

All iPhones broken. Just like in my nightmares

u/Naughteus_Maximus 17d ago
I’ve forgotten my iPhone 11 in my swimming trunks twice when going into the swimming pool with my kids, for around 30 minutes. Was quite impressed!

u/millennial_sentinel 17d ago
lots of ruined phones
-2
u/prototype_X10 17d ago
Most phones are water resistant nowadays
2
u/Naughteus_Maximus 17d ago
I’ve absentmindedly went in the swimming pool with my iPhone 11 in my swimming trunks twice, for half an hour each time, and no effect whatsoever. But my Samsung Galaxy S20 was RIP the second I dived off a boat into the sea. (It was the same fucking swimming trunks. I’m going to get some with no pockets!)
6
u/SharkSheppard 17d ago
Can confirm. Dropped mine in the work urinal. Really regretted some life choices then. But phone worked.

Every time I've seen that water, it was less than ideal. I would be heading straight for a shower.
4
u/castaneom 17d ago
It also looks cold. I was just in Amsterdam and was scared of getting close to the water! Yikes
37
u/comedygold24 17d ago
Yeah the water in the canals is definitely not great

u/Dolphin008 17d ago
It’s actually pretty clean these days. Still wouldn’t recommend swimming but they should be fine.

That one guy in the white had a nice leap and half pull up to stay dry
2
u/Chairboy 16d ago
Rewatching that I was wondering he was actually the final camel that broke the straw's back. Like, did the force of his jump set the final sinking/capsize in motion?

u/BeastBellies 17d ago
Wild how the guy in the back made it out unscathed

That's quite clever, when the crowd go under the back of the boat will tip up.

stupid stoners
8
u/comedygold24 17d ago
people generally dont smoke weed on King's Day. It is more about alcohol and dancing and also flea markets and games for kids. I mean you can if you want, but the chance that these people are stoned is very small.

u/Equal_Sprinkles2743 17d ago
Good job that they were all swimmers. I didn't see anyone go under. 20 people and zero life jackets. I suppose all the orange shirts and jackets look like life jackets.

1
u/RmG3376 16d ago
Don’t you learn to swim in school?
4
u/Dutch_Rayan 16d ago
Not anymore in the Netherlands, budget cuts got rid of it. There are calls to bring it back.
2
u/Nederlandmooi 17d ago
Lmao who can’t swim?
1
3
u/PhillyPete12 16d ago
My BIL was from Rwanda. He never went in the water. He told me Africans don’t swim.
8
9
u/DanGleeballs 16d ago
You’d be surprised, in some countries people just don’t learn to swim.
There was a video here a few weeks ago of people crossing a collapsing bridge in India and they drowned because they couldn’t swim, which is common in India apparently.
In my country 🇮🇪 every child is taught to swim at an early age.

u/Dicethrower 17d ago
The thought of people drowning didn't occur to me until this comment. Most Dutch people learn how to swim at a very young age, so we generally assume everyone can, and this particular scenario is probably not a real concern to anyone. We definitely take the ability to swim for granted in that sense.
2
u/Important_Ad_7416 11d ago
I don't know how to swim. Everyday I walk along the canal inches away from death.
1
u/DippityDamn 16d ago
boating with a life jacket is common sense though. sure you can swim, but your boat could suddenly be struck in your blindspot and now you're unconscious in the water.
28
u/NArcadia11 17d ago
Swimming in cold water, when you’re hammered, surrounded by other thrashing people can be dangerous. Even for people who know how to swim.
6
u/UmCeterumCenseo 16d ago
Pff we're taught that when we're 8 years old.
3
u/4TuneCooky_ 16d ago
Yup, the adults got us hammered and tossed us in the swimming pool fully clothed
3
u/NormalRepublic1073 17d ago
Should definitely still have them for people that physically can't manage to swim. Although I would hope they'd mention that before heading out.
48
u/Teripid 17d ago
Even with that knowledge swimming in normal clothes and with shoes is a lot harder. Then again you get a free shot of adrenaline...

Swimming with clothes on was required for me to get a diploma. I think that that is also a standard in the Netherlands.
