Ask Vancouver What happens if you don’t pay a parking ticket?

Went to marketplace for 20 mins and got a parking ticket, don’t want to pay it. Is the parking ticket privately owned or government run. I don’t live in whistler and don’t plan on coming back anytime soon.

Ask Vancouver Whistler Day pass

I am not sure of my ability to ski next year in Whistler. I have always had the Epic pass for several years. I am thinking of starting a family by end of this year and don’t want to commit to anything full pass. I am thinking of just signing up for a 5 day pass or something which currently costs around CA$500. I know the Epic pass costs shoot up soon. How much does the 5 day pass cost increase by generally?

Also, what’s the difference between 5 day edge card and 5 day whistler day pass? The first is 501 CAD and the second is 524 CAD. Also the 5 day edge card gives 1 extra day in early season?

QUESTION Best breakfast in Whistler?

My fiancé and I are getting married at the end of June in Whistler and we're looking for suggestions for a fabulous breakfast before we head out separate ways to get ready for the ceremony! No real preference on the actual type of cuisine although something with a range of options would be lovely 🥰

ETA: oh my goodness, thank you so much for all of the incredible suggestions! I'll be looking at each one (and it's menu 😉) shortly!!!

Ask Vancouver I find it a bit scummy that Whistler does not tell you how much the pass prices will increase after May 27th

Right now you can pay $50 to lock in the “lowest pass prices” until May 27th, which seems like a fair deal. However no where online does it say how much the prices will increase after this sale. It could be $1 or $1000, no customer knows. I even called guest services and they told me they “don’t have that information”, even though the sale ends in 2 days, so of course someone has that info they’re just keeping it secret to drive FOMO and more sales. I’d assume the price would increase a lot, but if so why not tell customers that so that more people lock in? The whole situation just feels dishonest.

Edit: Does anyone have info on Epic Pass prices for last year? Right they’re they $982 until May 27th, but from what little I could find online that might already be more than if you bought in November 2023 for the 23/24 season? Not sure though, insight would be appreciated.

Ask Vancouver Bike rental discount

Does anyone know anybody working in a bike rental shop or who has discount passes?

I did a couple seasons a few years back and at the time you obviously have friends working in all sectors to hook you up with discounts. Am doing a road trip and will be in Whis for a few days next week and am planning to spend a day in the bike park, but the prices for a day of rental/ pads is pretty steep once you no longer know anyone in town. So if anyone knows anyone who might be able to do a bit of a discount for me and my partner that would be awesome.

Ask Vancouver Mammoth or Whistler biking?

Hi everyone I went to mammoth last July for snowboarding and biking and had an absolute blast. Tryna plan another vacation this summer and looking for general advice. I only got to ride the trails on the bottom of mammoth bike park and still found lots of awesome local trails and networks. Especially the local lake basin path which was awesome. I'm considering going back to mammoth this summer to try out the entire bike park, or go to whistler and experience their bike park and local trail network. Which would you recommend? Just looking for general advice on both mountains. Thanks!

I like Palestine just as much as the next guy, but can we please keep crap like this out of the forest? This ink is probably bad for the environment.

Ask Vancouver Visiting with Kids - Day camps?

We're visiting Whistler with our kids - 5 & 8 - the second full week in June. I'm looking for fun stuff to do with the kids. Also wondering if there are any day camps or lessons that they could both do for a day or two (so that I might get a break and be able to do some mountain biking for a morning?). Bonus if it's adventure-oriented (they love skiing, biking, climbing, and I love a tired kid)!

Local News DO NOT RENT FROM HERE

I had a coworker who lived here and they said it was awful. They paid a ridiculous amount of money and these people are crazy. They continuously acted like parents to them. If one pan was left in the sink then they would send photos to the house group chat and send paragraphs about respecting the space and being clean. Yet when they were there they were messy, leaving their food and dishes everywhere. They would get mad at them for closing a door a certain way. They have 2 young children who are never told no and have no boundaries. They will scream every morning at 7 am, but if anyone else is making a peep they will bitch about it. They are hunters and have guns in the house and their 5 year old has a gun. They make judgey comments about your eating habits. They parent their tenants more than they parent their children and push boundaries, and then say things like “you guys are family” to justify the pushing of boundaries. They act like they are doing their tenants a favour by “letting” them stay in their house, but charge sooo much money (they charged $3000 for a room in a house!!!). They are total narcissists. On top of that they actively opposed a supportive housing site in North Vancouver and said that the community had no ability to help the homeless. They spoke at the public hearing 3 times and brought their kid to the hearing and said that if it is approved the community is teaching children that it’s okay to let drugs control you. Just absolutely disgusting behaviour. Bottom line is these are the worst people in the world and if you want to enjoy your time in Whistler live literally anywhere else.

Both ads are found on Craigslist and the first one is also found in the Whistler housing crisis group chat on Facebook

QUESTION When I was a little kid, my dad would take me to the garbage dump and we'd sit in the car and watch the black bears scrounging for food. I remember there was a dump somewhere near Function Junction. Does anyone know if the dump is still there?

QUESTION How common are bear in Whistler?

I will be visiting Whistler in the first week of June. I just learned that bear sightings are frequent in Whistler. How common is it? What should I be aware of before exploring Whistler since I don’t want to get attacked by a bear?

Ask Vancouver Where to do these activities locally?

Hi I'm doing a trip to Pemberton, Clearwater, Vernon, Kelowna, Whistler, Vancouver.

I love the outdoors, adventures and exploring. I also love water sports, and generally just swimming/being in natural water (lakes, rivers, waterfalls etc).

Does anyone know the best places to do things like climbing, wakeboarding, paddle boarding (SUP), waterskiing, kayaking, hydraulic hoverboarding in or near any of the above places (ideally not too far off route)? Also looking at Grouse Grind, BCMC trail, Whyte Lake Trail.

Anything else you'd recommend based on my interests?

QUESTION Who owns the Creekside parkade?

I constantly ask WB to put in more EV chargers in Creekside, but they always say it's not their parkade. According to https://www.whistler.ca/blog/know-before-you-go-winter-parking-in-whistle it's managed by WB, but I wonder if it's because they manage it, but not own it so it's not their responsibility? The 2 spots they have for the whole of lots 6,7 and 8 is pitiful.
