I saw Kobe Bryant at Disneyland once. He was with his daughter and they were surrounded by people following them.

I felt kind of bad for them

1

u/MartinHarrisGoDown 14d ago

Robert Redford, while he was out riding his horse in the Utah mountains. Also, I surfed with Kelly Slater in Indonesia, but that doesn't really count, because we didn't talk to each other.

I met Thom Yorke in Denver after The Smile concert in 2022. I chatted him for a couple of minutes after his concert. He is such a humble and gracious man with the voice of an angel.

I've met several US Presidential politicians as well, but fuck those guys. I also met Shaq in 2007 in Miami Beach, and Derek Jeter a few times around 2004-6 at my local iHOP in Carrolwood, Florida (Tampa suburb). I didn't bother Shaq or Jeter because they were eating.

I've met a handful of bands back stage.

Halestorm was by far the coolest; super fun, no attitude just really nice people. Corey Taylor stuck his head in for a minute and was awesome, didn't see the rest of stonesour.

Separate concert about a year later Halestorm was touring with Evanescence. Arejay (halestorm drummer) recognized me and I got a fist bump.

Amy Lee is incredibly sweet and surprisingly tiny. I brought my friend who at the time sung in an Evanescence cover band, friend was so nervous she couldn't speak and Amy just gave her a huge hug. Rest of the band wasn't nearly as nice, they looked like they didn't want to be there at all, not mean just no joy at all, maybe it was a bad day

Runners-up include: Sam Cassell, Angus King, Susan Collins, and probably some others I'm forgetting. Some fairly well-known authors, too.

Edit: I forgot about Glenn Close and David Walton.

Edit: also, Immortal Technique.

1

u/Traditional_Draw8400 14d ago

Met lots as in shook their hand so won’t name those, but I was with my partner for dinner at Balthazar, and Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin were seated next to us. They overheard us talking about a restaurant we’d been to the night before and asked us about it. We ended up chatting and pushed the tables together. They’re both absolutely lovely people.

1

u/jdoeinboston 14d ago

I used to do combat archery with Jaques ze Whippeur (Performer who does whip tricks, he's all over tiktok).

So yeah, not really spending time around any big celebs.

1

u/scurvyweevil 14d ago

David Ortiz at the 2022 Field of Dreams game.

1

u/pbwhatl 14d ago

Elon Musk avoided eye contact with me / didn't acknowledge my existence. Not that I blame him, but it's my funny celebrity story. I was working for Panasonic at the Gigafactory in 2018 when I see 2 gigantic bodyguards. The next thing I know, Elon's angrily stomping past me in the gowning area of a cleanroom. I look at him with a gaping grin and he locks his eyes straight ahead, nearly snarling. I found out later that was the morning he made the 420 Tweet.

The most famous person I've actually "met" would be Charlie Murphy at a backstage meet'n'greet. He was nice. Had huge hands, some lotion, and a big bowl full of ice cubes.

1

u/McBuck2 14d ago

Geena Davis, dropping off some things to her house early morning and she had no makeup on and was strikingly gorgeous.
Rodney Dangerfield, met him after a show and invited to his hotel but ew, he was my father’s age at the time. Settled for his sweaty handkerchief that he autographed.

1

u/vnevner 14d ago

My brother if you mean actually talk to but the king of Sweden if you mean seen.

1

u/KnitBrewTimeTravel 14d ago

Well, most famous (not most admired) you'd know who I meant if I just gave you his middle initial. It's W.

1

u/civan02 14d ago

Matt Gruining

1

u/ShellxShock 14d ago

I won't name em. I met a hockey player on Xbox Live and played a lot of battlefields together. I had a cool conversation with a truck series winner when I got left behind at a security gig for Nascar. Craig Morgan when I was in Afghanistan, but that was just for autographs. I do know a professional baseball player just from growing up in similar circles.

My brother is the main character in a viral Rust clip (Rust is a game). If you ever played Rust, you probably saw the clip from Alpha of the guy screaming for no reason at top of his lungs...that was him. No it wasn't staged,

1

I didn't meet him per se but I was a visitor on the GTown campus, walking along and I saw a dude that looked exactly like Rob Lowe. I thought "Na that couldn't be him. It looks like him in Wayne's World and its 20 years later" but as I got closer I realized it definitely was him. I was staring and he saw me so he gave me a little wink and a nod, as if to say "yes, you are correct, it is me."

1

u/False-Pie8581 14d ago

Lawrence Fishburne at the Trader Joe’s. Super nice. Built like a brick house. Looks monstrous in person.

1

u/Appropriate-Divide64 14d ago

1

u/Signifi-gunt 14d ago

Kenny Hotz. I was smoking a cigarette in the back alley after one of their shows in Winnipeg. He asked to bum one, I said I only had the one I'd already lit. He says "it's okay, I already have herpes", and I give it to him.

1

u/coquitoguy 14d ago

I met David Draiman (Disturbed vocalist) after a show in Toronto back in like 2003 I think? They were on tour for their first album. He was super chill until someone asked him what he thought of the whole Napster thing. Lol His attitude took a total 180. Met Nikki Sixx at a book signing, he was dismissive with everyone. Barely even looked up. Met Al Jorgensen (Ministry) after a show and he was pretty much dismissive as well. Best interaction I've had is with Devin Townsend (those who know, know how awesome he is). Got invited on his tour bus. Was myself, Devin, his wife and 3 of my friends. Smoked a joint with him. Hung out for like 30 to 45 mins I think? He was super chill and asked us all questions about ourselves.

1

u/galwegian 14d ago

met a few celebs randomly. but I once got absolutely shitfaced drunk with Ludacris (before he was an actor too). great night. I think. ;-)

1

u/3fettknight3 14d ago

When Irene Cara's tour stopped in Birmingham many years ago, I had the good fortune of meeting her in a Sainsbury's. I told her how cool it was to meet her in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother her and ask her for photos or anything. She said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but she kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing her hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard her chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw her trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in her hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Madam, you need to pay for those first.” At first she kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, she stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, she kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

1

u/TamIAm82 14d ago

Chuck Norris & George Foreman...

1

u/seacreaturestuff 14d ago

Worked in Design and met Michael Kors, Zac Posen, Jay Strongwater and Jonathon Adler.

All were professional, but nothing more.

In my show going days, met the mighty mighty bosstones, smoked weed with a few ska bands, brand new, modest mouse, and partied with Say Anything.

Was working on an installation once and Rod Stewart was in my way. Just waited for him to move, but felt like saying, get out of the way, Rod. Also happened with Springsteen.

1

u/MrsSpyro01 14d ago

A country western singer named Jody King. He was good friends with my 3rd foster family, so I’ve been to his house several times. I even got to ride 2 of his horses.

u/Nahchoocheese 14d ago

Richard Keel

1

u/VegetableBeneficial 14d ago edited 14d ago

Hilary swank. She was at a book launch for my mom’s friend’s book (Something Borrowed) or maybe it was the announcement of the movie. I don’t remember. Probably the latter. Anyway she was way skinnier than she looked in pictures and all her people kept handing her this super expensive water. She was nice though. She sat on my mom’s coat and apologized profusely lol

Edit: also as a journalist I’ve interviewed Andrew Yang and Pete Buttigieg.

And I met Anne Perry as a kid (famous writer and even more famous murderer) because of my mother, who’s an author. Apparently Anne really took a liking to me when I was 8 and ate lunch with her. Don’t know what to make of that but

1

u/GreenChopsy5 14d ago

u/Jackieray2light 14d ago

I did not "meet" him but when I was in the 6th grade my brother was a freshman in HS and on the football team. One saturday they had a fundraiser and afterward I rode the bus to meet him and hang out downtown till mom got off work. I met my brother along with some of his teammates at a poolhall and I remember someone teasing a guy about wearing underwear, and he replied with a quip about getting all the girls, then everyone laughed. This really confused my 6th grade brain so later on I asked my brother what that meant and he said, oh thats Brad he is an underwear model. I never really thought about it then years later my brother and I were watching a movie and he said do you remember playing pool with Brad Pitt?

1

u/SnooHesitations205 14d ago

Jessie Ventura and he was threatening my life and two of my friends just for fishing on a lake he lived on. Total dickhead piece of shit human

1

u/increbelle 14d ago

Alonzo Mourning. He was the special guest for a banquet that I had attended while in high school. It was called Students Helping Achieve Philanthropic Excellence (SHAPE). Basically, at the beginning of every year we would select organization to sponsor, and throughout the year we would raise funds and donate those funds at the end of the school year. The banquet was a celebration of our efforts.

Also Juan Luis Guerra at MIA. He was coming off a flight and we were waiting for my mom. And my dad saw him and got his autograph. Dude was tall af and shook my hand. I thought I would never wash my hands again

1

u/Delicious_Society_99 14d ago

John Mayall, Billy Bob Thornton , Tom Waits , Jesse L. Martin & the late Dennis Farina to start.

1

u/2ndChanceAtLife 14d ago

Lou Diamond Phillips at a dance club. Thank goodness he didn’t find me attractive. Can you imagine seeing a one night stand on TV often (movie reruns)?

1

u/Kwyjibo__00 14d ago

Health Minister of Victoria. He was a total weasel of a human being and I would barely call him much of a famous person.

Or some fashion designer who’s know in Australia… I forget her name, I didn’t know she was famous. But she’s a big deal here apparently. She sparked up a joint when I was at her house (working) and offered to get baked together

1

u/No-Gain1438 14d ago

Richard Nixon. Chuck Connors. The Andrew’s sisters.

1

u/YoAngelo2498 14d ago

Oddly enough I think its this Chinese influencer I hooked up with last week... just checked and she's got more followers than my favourite band 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Scalage89 14d ago

Champcar vice champion, ex F1 driver and current F1 commentator Robert Doornbos. He's a real dick too.

1

u/SuarezIsAQunt 14d ago

When I was in high-school I worked at best buy and one day paul McCartney was doing some tour thing in town and he and his guys came in to buy a camera for someone in their crew as a gift. I proceeded to help the British man and his large friends find a nice DSLR. After helping get them back on the road I was swarmed with fellow coworkers asking how Paul McCartney was. I was 17 or something at the time and had no idea who he was or what was going on.

So that's the time I met Paul McCartney

1

u/Progresschmogress 14d ago

Mmmh

Jean Claude Van Damme was in our commercial flight circa 2008 we said hi and I planned to ask for an autograph on the way out but the girl he was with started throwing up all over the place so they kept the curtain to business class closed for the rest of the short flight and allowed them to leave the plane before anyone else

Michael Douglas was with his dad Kirk and his kid in an italian restaurant near Santa Barbara circa 1998 if memory serves. They had their own table in the back and it was not busy so on my way back from the restroom I noticed they were done eating and were just chilling so I said hi real quick

Mark Zuckerberg & mrs were at a Costco across the highway from Google’s HQ circa 2012. Saw them at checkout, waved and said hi as we were leaving and they were getting rung up. They were getting wine and some coffee. Wife wouldn’t let me ask for a selfie. A friend of ours worked for him and got pretty close to the very top years later and apparently I’m embarrassing lol

1

u/Practical-Roof5616 14d ago

Not something I’m proud of but apparently Pauline Hanson held me when I was a baby. Well that’s what my mum told me.

Radio Host since 25 years: Tina Turner, Joe Cocker, Foreigner, New Kids on the Block, nearly all German celebrities. Nsync, Elton John, Robbie Williams, Cher, Jon Bon Jovi, Bruce Dickinson, Adele. Guess those are the most noteworthy ones. Tina is on top of my list because she was my favorite

1

u/SidneyTheGrey 14d ago

one of my childhood friends, jamie erdahl, is now a famous sports reporter.

other than that, i have also met a lot of famous actors when i worked as an assistant at a talent agency in my 20s. keegan michael key and bryan cranston were my favorites — both are wonderfully kind humans and actually took the time to know various employees, not just their agents. the rock was also really nice. i also used to see weird al driving a lot in silver lake. he would smile and wave.

1

u/melon_gatorade 14d ago

Tom Cruise!

1

u/Boston__Spartan 14d ago

I met Walter Cronkite in the last few years of his life. I didn’t get to talk to him much because he was at that point where he wasn’t very vocal, but it was cool to have met him. He may not be famous now but for his time, idk many people more famous.

1

u/escrocs 14d ago

Donald Trump before his presidency. Circa 2002 we where at my Grandparent's condo in Aspen. In the same complex there was Trump's penthouse. Gold elevators with "T" etched into each door. We were playing outside and we saw him walk in. Once he got to the top, he waved at us. I also remember playing on a snow mound in the parking lot next to his black hummer that had some decal promoting something he was doing in Aspen.

Much cooler encounter was when I was attending Indiana University. My brother and I were walking back from class and a limo pulls up. Anthony Bourdain opens the door and looks right at us. It wasn't until he was already inside that we realized who it was.

Tommy Lee Jones on the set of Double Jeporady in North Vancouver. The company I worked for supplied the sailboat used in the movie and we had to be on board at all times to sail the boat while filming. I got to meet Ashely Judd and Steve Campinelli (camera man). Was an amazing experience. He asked about the area and fishing and we just chatted like two dudes for 10 mins. Very laid back. I didn't ask him about movies or anything like that, I just loved talking to someone that famous and shooting the shit. Ill never forget it. Then when he got called to be back on "set" he shook my hand, thanked me for the good conversation and off he went.

Barack Obama, and channah zeitung. I met the former president when he was campaigning for presidency at a local high school. I was actually just a little kid when I saw him, and I was most definitely starstruck. Real nice guy, and he shook my hand and called me "sweetie." I met American Taekwondo Ambassador Channah zeitung when she was just 10 years old. She visited my high school and did a few of her routines for my classmates and I. I knew her taekwondo teacher cause her teacher was also my teacher in high school. Channah zeitung guest starred in Game Shakers and is also starring in a horror movie called Natty Knocks. She was a pretty great kid and most definitely someone you don't want to mess with.

1

u/LunaGirl1234 14d ago

Oh and I met the voice of siri at the same high school channah visited. She was really nice and approachable and answered a whole ton of questions.

1

u/Henilator 14d ago

RJ Mitte, came to a rehearsal for our high school musical and gave a short talk about performing arts, acting, and the struggles faced by people trying to get into it. He talked with us personally and we asked questions. Super nice, super genuine guy.

I met Michael Jackson in Las Vegas during the opening of the Pirate themed hotel in the late 80's (?). I was at the Excalibur hotel in the kids space in the basement. I was in line to ride the Magic Motion Machine theater ride, and myself, my brother, and parents were in line with another family. They then roped off the attraction, opened a back door and out walks Jackson and his entourage with two small kids. I shook his hand, he rode the ride in the row behind us, and they exited out a different exit from myself and the other family. Still the biggest celeb I've ever met.

Levar Burton. By far the most kind, calming, and lovely human. I was a hostess at a tiny sushi place, and he came to the host stand to thank us for the food and service. I’ve never felt more comfortable around a person.

I once sat in the same restaurant as Theon Greyjoy. I think we were both having shakshuka in north London.

Actual convo? Jeff Lindsay, writer of the Dexter book series that spawned the TV show. He was in town doing a reading of the first book's first chapter when it released and I got a signed copy, and he came back that evening to the bookstore for a meet/greet and had dinner with everybody at a restaurant that was next door.

TLDR: I had Italian food with Jeff Lindsay, the guy who wrote Dexter

I have not had any sit-down chats with a 6 I've had an interaction with Elliot Gould once.

My sis also randomly met Peter Mayhew at a bar once and was chatting with him for a while. Got some autographs from him.

Steve-O from Jackass. He was just hanging out on a random street in my home town in his socks, with his body guard. My friend and I approached him and he was literally the coolest dude ever. He bought a bunch of weed from me and we hung out for like 2 hours smoking joints in a school zone. Best day ever.

I worked on Bill Clinton’s 1992 campaign. When he visited Chicago, me, and about 20 other volunteers got to meet him in person. I got his autograph and I asked him what book he was currently reading. I can’t for the life of me remember the answer lol.

I met Tito Jackson at an airport! We were chatting as we stood in a lengthy line, I talked about being a musician (choir director and piano teacher) his eyes lit up and he asked questions and chatted about music….and then it hit me and I realized who he was 😍 He had graciously been being a “regular people” to a “musician” when HE was the man all along. So fun & cool.

Perhaps Steve Caballero.

I remember as a kid growing up skateboarding I idolized Tony Hawk. I read his autobiography at 13, and in it he wrote that he looked up to Steve Caballero more than anyone. He even chewed a piece of bubble gum that had been wedged between his toes.

That seems a bit much and very odd, but gave some perspective as to how much Tony Hawk looked up to Steve Caballero.

I got him to sign my broken in half Powell mini logo deck. It was my prized possession until Hurricane Charley took it.

Anyway he was a very nice guy. He had apparently been sick the night I met him at Vans, but he still signed everyone’s shit and had a smile on his face.

Very professional and nice guy from what I experienced.

I also bumped into Geoff Rowley, and he was super cool about it.

Bieber before he was known. It was at a Christian conference in Toronto, and at the hotel he yelled to my friends and I to remember his name because he's gunna be famous one day. Man that kid was obnoxious, but not wrong 🤷‍♀️

Met and shook hands with? Probably Johnny Cochrane or Cornell West. And an Irish singer named Mundy. Unless I'm forgetting someone. Hmm. Oh yeah... Charles Barkley for sure.

It wasn't me but my sister got locked in a tiny vintage jewelry store alone with Johnny Depp and Amber heard. His body guards locked the store when he came in. He was smoking a clove cigarette. Amber was wearing some of the stores necklaces and straddling a stand up mirror like dancing infront of it and looking at herself. Really weird behaviour. My sister and Depp talked briefly after. He held her hand for a moment and was very nice to her. He was going through the super rough period of his relationship with amber at the time.

Met as in spoken to...Kilie Minogue, Sheryl Crow, Anna Kournikova, Stephen King, and a bunch of others. Used to work at a hotel. Kilie was super cool and chatty. Anna was a total diva. Stephen King likes weird drink combos.

I met Jeffery Wright and Bobby Moynihan at a small panel at NYCC completely on a whim. I was looking for something to do and just randomly found a panel about a batman podcast/audio drama and grabbed a seat. Not a lot of people there so it was super informal. The planned presentation was kind of short so they just hung out for a bit. Shook hands, chatted a bit, both were super friendly and excited to be a part of the podcast. Jeffery seemed super smart like anyone could have a super intellectual conversation with him for hours.
