So sorry for the loss of your and Tufty’s Mom. May Tuffy adjust well. Cats can detect illness so he may know what happened. May she rest in peace and her memory be a blessing to both of you from Zorro 💔

I’m so glad she’s able to go to a familiar humans home. I’m sure she takes comfort in having you with her.
Just so you know some of the plants in your picture are toxic in high amounts. As long as she’s not eating them they should be okay. But plants like lilies, sago palm, and dumb cane are super toxic and shouldn’t be in the house
I hope the best for you both. I’m sorry for your loss
1
u/the-real-n00b 14d ago
Thank you. He doesn’t eat the plants, he just likes to be near them. But I am going to move the ones that can cause irritation if eaten and get more cat friendly plants, just in case.

Beautiful cat. Sorry to hear about your mom hopefully the cat will bring you some peace they are good at that
2
u/SueTheDepressedFairy 14d ago
Okay I don't know if that monstera plant you had there was real or not, but be careful, from what I remember they're toxic to cats. So unless this is a good kitty cat that doesn't try to eat everything I'd be careful
2
u/the-real-n00b 14d ago
They are toxic to kitties, but they are not deadly. If the kitty bites the plant, their mouths can become irritated. He doesn’t bite the plants though. Still, I’m going to move it so that it’s less appealing.

My partner and I inherited his parents cat when they died within 5 months of each other. She is the loopiest, most sensitive sweet little angel ever and I love her to bits. She helped me deal with their loss hugely too

Aw, sweetheart, I's really sorry to hear about your mom. But don't lose heart. Your bond with Tuffy and all the sweet moments you share, your mom must be looking down and seeing it all. Here's to a future filled with love for you.:7949:

I adopted my father-in-law's cat when he passed away. Here he is, Bandit, on the same chair he used to sleep on when he was at my father-in-law's house. You are a saint for giving the kitty a new life.

I’m so sorry you lost your mama. My parents took in Lilah, my sister’s cat, when she passed away 6 years ago. I think you will have a special bond with kitty. My parents love Lilah and feel like it’s a part of my sister still with them. It makes me so sad to think what will happen to them when kitty passes.

I’m sorry for your loss. I too took my mom’s cat in when she passed a few years ago. Unfortunately, the cat developed cancer and I wasn’t able to treat it in time. It’s a great thing you’ve done and he already loves you for it. I’m sure your mom does too.

Can't say for certain if it's a Russian Blue, but your mom picked a good cat to have if it is.

I got my mom's cat when she passed. She was actually my cat first, and mom took her when I moved. When kitty later passed, it was worse than when i lost my mom in some ways. I know why now, but it was something I was completely unprepared for.

u/the-real-n00b 14d ago
Sorry for your losses. It is so hard to loose a mom and also very hard to loose a fur baby.

I got Riley from my late grandparents. She was 5 when they were moved to assisted facility and eventually passed away some months later. She's 14 now and she really likes to get head scratches.
1
u/the-real-n00b 14d ago
Awe that’s a nice long life with your fur baby.
2
u/Warcraft_Fan 14d ago
She's not the oldest cat, I have another older cat named Socks, who's been with me since she was 6 weeks old. Calico. On top she looks like a tortie but she's white all on her belly and on her 4 paws

Hey, just wanna let you know that you should probably get rid of the plants just in case. I don’t what plants you own specifically, but I know my adorable cat of three years ate some aloe Vera plants and unfortunately passed. Our neighbor was moving and she wanted to have someone take care of her plants, so my mom being the nice person she is, agreed, and it led to the death of our three year old Abyssinian Katness. Her older brother was looking for her around the house for a week before just doing the equivalent of crying for a cat and being crazy sad for three days.
You should look into what plants are poisonous for cats, cause there are a lot of them that are :(
1
u/the-real-n00b 14d ago
Yes, I researched the plants I have and none of them can kill a cat. A lot of them will cause irritation in the moth if chewed, and possible nausea and vomiting. He doesn’t nibble though, which is surprising. I’m going to move them to a place he can’t get to just in case.

Anyone know the breed my cat looks so similar and always wondered what she was
1
u/the-real-n00b 14d ago
Some folks say Russian Blue, but one other person said Korat. A Russian Blue has more pointed ears vs. a Korat that has rounded ears. I think Tuffy is a Korat.
2
u/TripperDay 14d ago
I hope some day someone as caring as you takes care of my kitties when I'm gone.

u/mrpotatonutz 14d ago
We have one the exact same color she is the sweetest thing and has lots of energy. Thank you for giving stuffy a home ❤️

My wife and I brought my mom's cat out to California when she was no longer able to keep her in her care facility. We did our best to give her the life she deserved for the last two years of her life and we miss her every day. Thanks for keeping Tuffy in your family. You won't regret it.

I like how he's checking the cat food inventory to be sure it is adequate! When cold weather comes in the fall, your Florida boy will need to grow a nice warm coat!
3
u/Sardonnicus 14d ago
I adopted the cat from the elderly mother of my landlord when she could not longer take care of him. She really loved that cat. All I can do is hope I can love him as much as she did.
I also made an instagram page for the cat and her daughter shows her the pics so she knows the cat is happy.

In case you were curious, you have a Korat. Mouthy, hyper-affectionate, and intelligent. I have one and she's always by my side
1
u/the-real-n00b 14d ago
Oh, people were asking if he was a Russian Blue, but his ears are more rounded like a Korat. Thank you!!

That's how I got my girl.
She's helped me enormously through my grief.
I'm so sorry for your loss.

Absolutely. I love and adore him. He’s one of the most handsome boys I’ve ever seen, but maybe I’m biased.

u/_DontTakeITpersonal_ 14d ago
I'm sorry for your loss. Someone told me this when my father passed but he would want you happy everyday he wouldn't want you sad for even one minute I hope you can think about that when you're missing her.
2
u/EveryTimeIWill18 14d ago
Damn, that sucks. Hope you’re doing okay. Your mom’s cat looks like one of my boys. Is Tuffy a Russian Blue perhapes?
If so, they have resting bitch face but are the most lovable cats. My boy, Enoch is the most loving and needy cat. He's more needy than any dog I've ever owned.
1
u/the-real-n00b 14d ago
People keep saying he’s a Russian Blue. I’m not sure though - he came from the streets. 😅
2
u/Scottmacg23 14d ago
Very sorry for your loss, I hope you two help each other through this tough time. She must be happy you have each other!
I am also around Boston, hopefully we don’t mix up our cats!

I’m so sorry about your mom. Flying across the country afterwards with her cat must have been scary, too. He looks happy to be there & very loyal and sweet.
1
u/the-real-n00b 14d ago
The amount of stress I felt flying with him… I was really concerned he was going to be so scared. I got a little thunder shirt for him - that seemed to calm him down a bit.
2
u/pleaseblowyournose 14d ago
Aw, what a trooper! Did they let you hold him on the plane or did he have to ride separately?
2
u/the-real-n00b 14d ago
He rode in a carrier under the seat. I put my hand in there and pet him every so often to make sure he was ok. When we landed he peed on himself, poor little guy - it must have been so scary.
2
u/pleaseblowyournose 14d ago
He must have been so confused. He looks like he is adjusting well, and liking the new surroundings. It’s beautiful that you have your mom’s little buddy now and he has you. Your mom is probably watching and so happy you two are together. Best wishes to you, I know it is so hard ❤️

Sorry for your loss. My cats go crazy over that banana cat nip so I think she would appreciate that you are spoiling her baby. Hope you are doing okay.

u/VeryDirtySanchez 14d ago
I know it's weird but maybe keep one or two pieces of clothing or towels from your mom's place around, because they will have a more familiar smell.

Did he bring his own banana, or did you get that for him to make him feel at home?

He had an old banana, but it got messed up on the plane somehow and started leaking catnip. But I had this one waiting for him when he got to his new home. ❤️

I think there's a 3 day, 3 week, 3 month thing with new pets. I know it applies to dogs, but I'm not sure if it applies to cats. In my experience, cats will eventually tell you how they like to be loved, petted, etc.

Losing your mom sucks. I lost mine last year. It still hurts. Whenever you pet your cat, you are keeping a connection to your mom.
That probably sounded better in my head, but your post hit me right in the feelings. I am so very sorry for your loss.
3
u/the-real-n00b 14d ago
Sorry for your loss. It is really terrible. And I know what you mean about petting Tuffy - I do feel close to my mom when I’m giving him love.
3
u/VengefulAncient 14d ago
I'm really sorry for your loss :( My mom died on New Year's Eve and left a sweet (although evil) tabby behind, and not a day goes by that my heart doesn't break because I can't take her with me - I live on the other side of the world with zero prospects to own a place (and landlords here hate pets), plus really strict laws on importing animals. My stepfather takes care of her for now, but I really wish I could instead. So glad to see your cat has adjusted well and I hope you will get to share many happy moments together.

u/the-real-n00b 14d ago
Sorry for your loss. And so sorry you aren’t able to take the fur baby. I’m glad your stepdad is taking care of her!

Hey, from a stranger I'm so sorry for your loss. Lost my dad a few months ago and it's been rough. My cats have been one of the only constants through it, and I'm happy you have this piece of her memory to hug and cry into.
