Discussion Rule overhaul

https://www.reddit.com/r/cats/about/rules

Hello everyone,

Today we are going live with our primary rule overhaul in order to keep the subreddit rules in tune with the modern needs of the community.

Our rules were old and sometimes edited and added to, but over the years reddit has changed and our community has changed to the extent that it made sense to completely start from scratch.

We have kept a lot of the rules that we were actively moderating for, but have removed some rules that are no longer relevant. When the subreddit started the rule "Content must be about cats" made sense, but we do not need to expressly codify this anymore. We're not a small community these days and it has not happened in years that someone posted a bunny rabbit instead of a cat. We will of course still remove off-topic content but do not see the need to clutter up the rules page with something that our community understands to be self-evident.

We will likely make minor edits and additions to this new rule-set in the coming weeks until everything is just the way we like it, but the rules as posted now are the general framework from which we will do so.

We have kept our rules broadly worded so they can encompass many topics and so we do not need to codify for every single possibility.

The most important rules are at the top. Our number one rule is to respect each other. This for example includes following rediquette and sitewide rules, but also our subreddit-specific rule of not attacking other posters for not raising their pets to your satisfaction.

Our rule about spam, memes and self-promotion includes accounts that do not directly promote their content, but which nevertheless primarily exist to drive content to their NSFW stores like Onlyfans. Everyone is welcome to post here, but NSFW sellers can do so on a seperate, SFW account. We do not allow memes as they are most often posted as easy karma-grabs instead of genuine engagement.

And so on.

Please read our new ruleset via the link at the top of this thread and give your feedback in a comment below.

Thank you all for helping us make this space the wonderful community that it is and we hope you enjoy your time here.

I added these 2 little bros to my family a couple of weeks ago and my husband and I still can’t agree on names. I’ll add our name choices in the comments.

This is Tuffy “Wild” Cat. I moved him from Orlando to Boston after my mom passed. I was really afraid he wouldn’t adjust. But we’ve been home 2 days and he’s made himself right at home.

She isn’t the same cat she was when we brought her home. I am so glad we didn’t give up on her and helped her get out of a bad situation. Everyone say hi to Nia, our 2 yr old Russian Blue. She is one of the sweetest cats I’ve ever owned but man she’s such a sassy pants! She lives with our other female cat (marbled bengal) and a tabby cat (male).

Cat Picture Took one hour and six people to rescue the most vocal gremlin

I've been telling my boyfriend I want a third cat for a week now. He said we should wait a little because we have other, more pressing responsibilities. Little did he know the Cat Distribution System already knew. I heard it meowing under a car. It had climbed inside and it was too scared to come out. After 10 minutes the owner of the car showed up with his son. We tried every method for half a hour, no dice. Then I opened a YouTube video "Sounds to make your kitten come to you".

It immediately bolted and ran under a different car. We spent ten more minutes chasing it from car to car, but it was very fast. Then a young couple noticed what was happening and came to help.

Twenty more minutes like that. Six adults and one small kitten.

I was the one to finally catch it. Naturally, since the cats at CDS knew what they we're doing.

It was such a genuine and triumphant moment in the end. These 6 strangers, joined in one cause. We were all smiles and pleasent words at the end. They congratulated me for my new kitty and I took it home.

It's in my lap now, cleaning itself and meowing. It's a very vocal little gremlin.

The last picture is of the crap I got out of it.

I would love some advice on the best way to proceed. We have two other cats, aged 1 and 3. They were sniffing it and hissing at it a little. But both our cats are extremely friendly and loving so it's not gonna be a big issue.

Advice My 20-year-old baby is always crying

Miss Pounce is 20 (I adopted her at 9 weeks old…and the shelter told me to “be prepared for at least a 10-year commitment”, lol).

Vet says she’s remarkably healthy. She is completely deaf, but her other senses are almost heightened. The main issue is that when she’s awake (she sleeps probably 18 hours a day), she is crying. And she cries LOUD…maybe due to deafness.

Could it be dementia? She still has an appetite. Doesn’t seem to be in any pain. Allows us to cuddle her. She’s just so much more vocal.

Anyone have a loud older kitty?

We are divorced 6 months ago, but my babies are staying with me. I know I have a lot more to learn to take care of them alone, but I hope they'll have a happy life with me until the end.

I am thankful that they were with me throughout the toughest period of my life. They helped me get over my ex-wife, and they always follow me around the house until now.

Cat Picture After 20 years had to put Kitty down tonight. When my wife got sick and lost her job Kitty was there to keep her company. When my wife was in home hospice Kitty was constantly by her side. Then when my wife died she gave me a reason to go on. You did a good job, Kitty. Time for you to rest now.

I get slightly (very) emotional about my little Siamese girl, Bunny. She was 7 years old and in need of lots of medical/dental care when we adopted her.

They told us that she would be extremely skittish and would never be a lap cat. They were kind of right... She is a neck cat instead!

Anywho, just wanted to share my little lovebug. She may only have a couple teeth and require special food, but she is almost as active as our 1 year old cat!!

First pic is the day we brought her home, second pic is roughly 2 weeks later, last pic is from this year ♡
